An art deco masterpiece, Belmond Copacabana Palace is the crown jewel on the world's most iconic beach. Since its doors swung open in 1923, this landmark hotel has entertained the rich and the famous. A hive of activity, this is the spot to mix with Brazil’s elite over caipirinhas. What’s more, it’s the best seat in the house for Rio’s theatrical highlights: the spirited spring carnival and firework-flecked new year.

I thought I'd book this hotel for my wife's 55th birthday next September, our last night in Rio. Their website shows it's a minimum 2 night booking, so I thought I'd email them to highlight it was for my wife's 55th birthday, and we're in Rio with our two sons on a mullti-centre holiday (booked with a Tour Operator) , and so I can't just leave our sons in the hotel we're staying in for the remainder of our time in Rio, and asked if they would be kind enought to make an exception to allow me a one night booking only to celebrate my wife's birthday. Whilst thanking me for my interest for "such a special occasion", they replied simply saying No, minimum 2 nights booking. Zero flexibility. I would have thought a premium hotel brand such as Belmond woud have flexibility when asked nicely. Very disappointing.

Great classic hotel, lovely staff and servicesGreat classic hotel, lovely and service-oriented staff. We were at the time of the carnival and enjoyed the wonderful and famous party at the hotel There is only one comment about the air conditioner in the room, it had a problem that they couldn't fix, it was dripping and not cooling

Beautiful Beaux-Arts Style Hotel on Copacabana Beach. From the moment we arrived, we were treated to an elevated experience. A room upgrade with an ocean view, free tickets and private shuttle to a Rio football match and much more. The pool scene was fantastic and the rooftop tennis court was stunning.

You cannot easily describe the service as service here - this feels more like a family, where every family member is asking you proactively what the can do for you or telling you proudly some hotel story or simply accompanying you in the lift so that you don't feel alone.

Nice old world style hotel. Service was very good, the pool was really nice. Restaurant was OK, very good breakfast, after that it was OK. Rooms were very nice, spacious, clean and comfortable. Location is right on Copacabana beach, that's a plus and minus. Rio is a place where your head has to be on a swivel. so nice to look at but the beach was not on our menu. Nice place to see Rio for a couple of days.
