Special holiday

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

When we arrived at the hotel you go through the normal check-in, and then taken down the hill to our room. We were shown around our room by Gary, lovely guy. Then we check out our surroundings, we were near the pool very close to the sea and a ground floor room, perfect. The staff down at the pool, beach and reef bar were fantastic, Vere, tomas, stacey, miriam, fitzroy, raynaldo, Wesley, tossi, and sasha. Thank you all. The food at breakfast was excellent, everything cooked to our liking and the service was exceptional. Our only negative comment is that our bathroom was very tired and in need of a refurbishment.

A small piece of paradise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is a beautiful boutique hotel for a quiet relaxing holiday. All of the staff are exemplary. The beach is cleaned (swept and raked ) every morning and the sun loungers prepared with clean towels ready for us to arrive and rearrange it all (lol). The sea is safe and clear with a roped off area for swimming. There are boats anchored off shore and the entrance to Nelson's Dockyard is visible from your sunlounger providing entertainment watching the super yachts and gin palaces. Our Junior Suite was perfect for us. We had a top floor with a large terrace looking over the gardens and to the beach. The birds would regularly scavenge our raw cane sugar (we did encourage)while we had our morning cuppa. The breakfast is a la carte and a small buffet in the Reef restaurant right on the beach. Perfect. Lunch is also in the Reef restaurant with a superb choice of mainly local food. The wine is excellent . The staff attentive and friendly. We ate in the Terrace most evenings and that would be our only criticism. Whilst the restaurant ambience and service again was excellent we felt that the Chef was trying to hard to be "special " and fell short. Don't over complicate things! Perfect a standard menu with local ingredients and add a couple of specials each week. Overall a beautiful holiday .

Fabulous (apart from vegetarian food)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Fabulous stay from the moment we put our cases down and our flip flops on . The hillside room was fantastic massive bed very exquisitely furnished. The plunge pool made it more spectacular with views to beach and beyond to Montserrat. Disappointed that the plunge pool switched off at certain times. It’s an expensive room not a great way to save pennies. The golf buggy to beach and breakfast was fun way to get around. The beach is beautiful and spoilt for choice for a sun bed ,Water warm and clear . No motorised watercraft so very serine. Staff all 5* Accommodation 5* Breakfast 5* It was going swimmingly until a vegetarian (me) arrived. Vegetarian Food I would rate 2* at best Very few options at lunch .Not one vegetarian sandwich . Only option to get club sandwich minus dead animal. Still charged full price. It was basically a mushroom and spinach sandwich. I tried the veggie burger but was awful. Best option was an omelette not reallly 5* Dinner was the most disappointing. I made it clear I was a vegetarian (Prior to arrival) I was still offered plates with fish on top and the vegetarian option was removing the fish from the dish. When I saw a vegetarian menu I was so happy. However a couple of days in and the food was dreadful. Cauliflower pasta was tasteless Potato gnocchi on mash potato was probably the worst dinner I had and I sent it back for an omelette The veggie patty was shaped mash potato with chips and lettuce. I covered it with ketchup as is had no flavour and was just mashed potatoes. I believe the chef is Italian so where were the 5*’ Italian foods on the menu? The main menu changes weekly but I think the vegetarian menu hasn’t changed since 2023 as a review from 2023 mention the cauliflower pasta. I did talk with the manager and I really hope the vegetarian menu will improve. It’s the only fault I had as over all its fabulous hotel and I would love to return. Perhaps I could see the improvements to the menu if any are made . I would genuinely be back before year end ,) Picture is my final night dinner … my friends can’t believe it’s from a boutique hotel more likely a cafe .)!

Understated colonial style luxury in an idyllic beachside setting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Inn has beautiful suites with large balconies and spacious bathroom / washroom areas. Very comfortable bed. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. The Reef Restaurant is right on the beach with a large breakfast buffet and complimentary afternoon tea plus open during the day for lunch and refreshments. The evening restaurant is at the top of the site (golf buggies for transport) and has a lovely ambience and changing menu. Great cocktails. The beach is beautiful and has sunbeds and hammocks, clean sand and a private jetty for the complimentary shuttle boat to the historic Nelson's dockyard. Overall a marvellous retreat or base for sightseeing.
