The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn
Palm Springs, CaliforniaSeemingly carved into the desert stone with all the trappings of a graceful Spanish villa, The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn is the former home of actress Marion Davies, better known for her dalliances with William Randolph Hearst. Guests enter the 1920s-era retreat through a dramatic cabana-draped terrace located at the top of a curvaceous stairway. At the top is a lovely parlor with beamed ceiling, massive fireplace and baby grand piano. With just eight impeccable rooms and space allotted for just a handful of people, a stay at The Willows is likened to you being a weekend guest at the home of a very privileged friend. Each and every chamber offers its own kind of wonderful, whether it's a hand-carved mahogany ceiling or a delightful claw-foot tub set against vintage tile.
Days begin with a scrumptious three-course, gourmet breakfast served in the elegant dining room where a natural cascading waterfall serves as a backdrop just beyond the interior. The inn has its own, intimate pool flanked with palm trees and blooming bougainvillea where Hollywood's young rising stars tend to lounge while on hiatus. Afternoon refreshments are served poolside with an evening reception of fine wines and edibles. En-suite spa services are available, too, and evening room service is provided by Le Vallauris, a fabulous four-star French restaurant located across the street. The Willows location, just at the top of a sloping road in Old Palm Springs Village, allows you to leave the car parked while you stroll to the town's charming boutiques, wine bars and galleries.
