At the southern end of Piazza San Carlo sits the church of San Carlo. Built in 1619 on behalf of Duke Carlo Emanuele I to honour the Bishop of Milan whom he'd met in his youth. The octagonal domed bell tower was added later in 1779 whilst the façade dates from 1834 and was built by Ferdinando Caronesi. Inside there is a unique central aisle with two bays with cross vaults and two chapels on either side. The sister chapel of Saint Cristina stands close by.
