Backstage Experience is an always-hopping food and music venue in Patio Bellavista, a couple of blocks from the Baquedano Metro in a free-standing mid to upscale foodcourt and shopping area, where middle class and upper-middle class Chileans often come for an after-work drink, and where you'll hear at least six languages being spoken on any given day.

The restaurant and music venue itself is well-situated, has an enormous seating area, brings good bands in from out of town and locally, and serves a variety of food from cheese and meat platters to pizza and sushi. The food is fair, and some say the pizza passes muster on the international front, though the crust is very thin, so despite how large they are, you might want one for yourself.

Like many discos in Santiago, this one gets hopping after midnight, which is also when the entry fee tends to increase, though it's never more than $10 and comes with one very strong drink. They use good quality alcohol in the drinks, which pack a punch, a good thing considering the price of subsequent drinks.

It's stylish, and a little posh, and tends to attract an upscale crowd with their hearts set on dancing to a mix of Latin and 80s music, and on hopefully at least dancing with someone they've never seen before. It's a bit of a meat market, but not aggressively so, and Chileans save face at all costs, so there's no chance of an ugly scene if you prefer not to dance with someone. Twenty-somethings to early 40s will feel at home here.
