Nowadays, Rome's revered historic monuments coexist with life in a big city. Walking around the historic center, it is almost impossible not to bump into some sort of excavation. If you have just one day to see the city, you will probably want to spend the majority of it visiting sights from the Imperial and Renaissance periods.
