Gallery owner Marion Meyer opened Marion Meyer Contemporary Art in 1998 after being a gallery manager. She felt there was a need to show work by contemporary artists, rather than displaying work by the masters. She felt that Laguna Beach was the right place for her gallery.

"I really enjoy working in the contemporary field," said Meyer. "It's rewarding to be able to follow  an artwork's transition from its creation, to hanging in the gallery, to finding a home on a client's wall."

Meyer selects mostly mid-career artists, including local artists as well as artists who are established nationally and internationally. "I like when they work with energy and passion, she said. "I appreciate color and texture."
