The biggest and most important Buddhist temple in Phuket, Wat Chalong attracts as many tourists as it does locals. From the outside, Wat Chalong looks like the typical ornate Thai temple. Inside, however, it's richly decorated and always full of people. Visitors come here to get blessings from the monks or to set off fire crackers. This is supposed to scare away bad spirits and attract good luck.

Wat Chalong is also a very popular place to learn about your future. No, there aren't any fortune tellers lining up the walls. Instead, you find out your fortune by taking a shaved bamboo chopstick with a number on it. Then you exchange that stick for a small scroll, which contains your fortune.
