Reviews for Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

Should have been excellent, but wasn't.

These were my people. Focused on being a top eco retreat, shampoo is provided in refillable glass bottles, plastic keycards are replaced with real keys, and a 6:30 birdwatching session was excellent. However, I got hardly any sleep on what turned out to be the worst night of our trip. They are so eco-minded that they do not light the pathways to the bungalows where the rooms are. In the evenings and in the early morning it is pitch black, slippery and a true hazard. The bathroom is equally poorly lit, although our cell phones provided extra light. Despite the dark walkways, (or perhaps because of them) the neighboring bungalows kept their outside lights on until late. Since the only drapes on the windows are the thinnest white cotton drape, they glowed brightly all night. Then upon climbing into bed, I realized that one of the nearby rooms was using the wood fireplace, causing smoke to hang in the humid air aggravating my asthma. After it cleared sometime after midnight, I became aware that the humidity and lack of A/C caused the pillows and sheets to have a distinctly musty smell. There was no way to sleep in this hotel, even though I was exhausted after the day. I would not return if they gave me a free stay. Breakfast wasn't that great, either.

Perfect stay in Aquas Calientes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

If I could rate this higher I would. This is a lovely, lovely property away from the hustle, bustle, yet close to the train station. It is nestled in the cloud forest and hosts a nature walk through their tea plants, rare orchids, and beautiful birds. The rooms are beautifully appointed and after dinner we came back to a turn-down service with a hot water bottle tucked under the sheets. A beautiful breakfast buffet and fabulous dinner were included. The service is friendly, polished and exemplary. As if it wasn’t perfect enough, we went on to travel through the Galápagos Islands and a few hotels and boat rides and when we got to our room at our final hotel back in Quito ten days later, there was a package waiting for us of the several items we had left behind at the Inka Terra. Thank you so much, Inka Terra-we appreciate you!

The 2nd Best Hotel in Aguas After the Belmond at the Entrance of Machu Picchu

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Visited for my birthday in late April 2024 and it was a magical experience. The hotel is situated across the river in Agua Calientes set amongst the trees. You really feel like you are in the jungle but at a five star resort. You have to cross one of two bridges to enter or exit the hotel and it really feels like it’s its own little oasis. The rooms are bungalow style and are quite large with fireplaces. Breakfast and dinner is covered in your stay and everyone eats in the same dining hall down near the river. They have two heated pools and one non-heated and also have a spa. The only part that we didn’t like is they ask that you throw away your toilet paper instead of flushing it, which is new for Westerners. The idea of throwing away used toilet paper in a trashcan was not my favorite part, but I can deal with almost anything when I am traveling. I would say this is by far the best hotel in Aguas Calientes, after the Belmond right at the entrance of Machu Picchu, however, it is twice as expensive as Inkaterra. The third best option would be Sumaq. We were lucky enough to get a light rainstorm shortly after getting into our room for the night on day one and it was the best sleep soundtrack I have heard in a long time. All the orchids, flora, and fauna surrounding our room really made it a magical experience. I would suggest to anyone traveling to Machu Picchu, especially anyone who appreciates a unique five star hotel.

Some of the best hospitality service in the industy!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I want to "THANK" José Koechlin von Stein for having the vision to start "eco" Inkaterra and big shout out to "ALL" the staff at Inkaterra Machu Picchu. We have travel the world and Inkaterra M.Picchu team are some of the best! To the front staff, Nohely & Laura no question was ever a problem. To Fernando, our concierge who is one of the most detail planners/organizers I have ever met. He ensured that we received the most out of our three night stay. Will was our guide to Machu Picchu and private guide of the gardens. Will is a encyclopedia of local flora and fauna. We enjoyed our time with him. The food and wait staff provided some of the best restaurant /hospitality service!!!! Their chef has got it going on. Every dish was delicious and presentation beautiful. The bar staff were happy to make the Pico Sours. Diego and the rest of the wait staff were always taking care of the us and the rest of the guests. Well done DIEGO, you went above and beyond!!!! Spa team was good. We were impressed that the support staff including the gardening team were all so polite, professional and always welcoming when one passed by. The manager should be proud of their team which went out of their way to ensure my husband and I had a great and relaxing visit. Well done and we wish you all the best! Keep up the good work. We highly recommend and will return someday.
