In a historic New England town, residents and guests alike are celebrating the 125th anniversary of Deerfield Inn. Marked by an unobtrusive shingle dangling above Old Main Street, this charming retreat is in the quaint village of Deerfield, a Massachusetts town dating back to the 17th century. The lovely inn features two dozen distinctively different rooms, all equipped with private baths, a cache of antiques and walls papered in timeless patterns. Guests can visit with one another in the public rooms or over a delicious daily breakfast. Champney's, the inn's restaurant, offers an extensive wine list and 101 varieties of martinis, and serves dinner seven nights a week.

We have stayed at the Red Roof Inn South Deerfield for over twenty years. We have enjoyed our visits over the years and we found a clean, safe, customer-friendly, reasonably-priced facility. That being said, our October, 2025 visit found a horrible deterioration in the quality of our stay. For example, there was standing water inside both of the side entrances near our room. Large signs have boasted, "This is a smoke free facility." However, I personally observed a filthy, middle-aged man lighting and smoking a cigarette in the hallway next to my room. People were constantly smoking everywhere in the hotel. It reeked of tobacco. Furthermore, the smell of marijuana was ever-present in our room's area. Security was a joke as well. Both side entrances near our room were completely unlocked 24/7, ANYONE could have entered the hotel at any time! Additionally, there was no room cleaning or maintenance staff on duty until near the end of our stay. As a result, the hallway was filled with leaves, dirt, and other debris most of the time, leaving a musty, sickening smell. Unfortunately, the sheets in our room had not been changed since the previous occupants of our room. Disgusting! Expressing concerns to the front desk were next to impossible. All the while, we kept remembering what a great place to stay the Red Roof Inn South Deerfield used to be, trying to give the benefit of the doubt. The conditions were filthy, dangerous, and couldn't be much worse. All other hotels in area were booked, as October is a busy time for them, so relocating was out of the question. Needless to say, my family will never stay at this place again. What a shame to see a once outstanding place turn into such a nasty hotel, in a fairly brief period of time.

I contacted corporate due to no internet for almost a week now. They kept saying it was restored, which is not true because I even sent a picture showing it said all bars, but when you clicked on it, it says no internet. I have gone to the front desk several times about this issue with no resolution. This is very frustrating when corporate wont listen to my concern/issue, but instead just keeps saying it has been restored.

I booked a night through Booking.com, and had to cancel it when my car went into the shop. I contacted the booking site, and they contacted Red Roof Inn on my behalf. Twice. Red Roof never responded to them. Booking.com said I should contact the property directly at that point, but when I called, they wouldn't speak to me about it at all. I couldn't get there because I had no car, and I was never refunded any portion of the $115 I paid. I will never book this hotel again.

The irony is I would have given these guys 5 stars! Perfectly fine overnight stay while visiting friends up in Amherst. Ridiculously expensive for a Red Roof, like north of $350 all-in for the single night, the night I was there. Guess there was some event going on at one of the colleges and all of the other hotels were fully booked for more than that or had a minimum two-night stay. Plus, my former go-to, the Howard Johnson in Hadley, has had a name change and is now an extended stay hotel. Room was sparse but adequate. As others have noted, it's a bare-bones property. But it totally worked. Clean, safe and ample parking. Right next to Yankee Village if that's your final destination.

This place is so bare minimum and weird. Our floor has a giant puddle upon walking in. It looks like a jail cell. Staff was very nice, but hotel is just dirty and not nice. Would avoid if possible but there aren’t many options in the area.
