Reviews for Gidleigh Park

At long last I stayed at Gidleigh Park.

This has been a property that I have long wanted to stay at. I was not disappointed. The staff could not have been nicer and more eager to help. I spent quite a bit of time in the large and comfortable drawing room. It rained much of the 4 nights I was there except for a reprieve which I took advantage of by going into Chagford. I attest to the ridiculously narrow roads but since I had been to Devon and Cornwall multiple times so I was prepared. I was very appreciative of being offered specially prepared dinners as I wanted simpler fare. That made my stay even more comfortable. Highly recommend

A wonderful 5-star country hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We have stayed at Gidleigh Park two times and it is simply a wonderful country home experience. The location, in the middle of Dartmoor National Park, is perfect for a quiet holiday and for those who love to hike. The hotel is small (24 rooms, I think) but the quality of the hotel, the rooms, and especially the service is 5 star. The rooms have a lot of character but are fully renovated, including the baths, and our room at least had a wonderful view. The public rooms and patios also are beautiful and full of light. The grounds are similarly beautiful, with a lovely park immediately around the hotel and then many acres of forest surrounding that. From there, you can hike up to the moor, which I did several times. The hotel staff are highly professional, well trained, hard-working, and exceptionally responsive to every need. The restaurant and bar also have top-tier food and service. Wonderful breakfast, outstanding wine and cocktail list, and a very high quality chef, although I think the new chef is getting his legs under him, as the overall menu and experience were not as exceptional in May 2026 as during our prior visit. In any event, Gidleigh Park is one of the finest country hotels we have visited anywhere.

Fabulous!

Gidleigh Park Hotel is set in a fabulous location on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Yes the drive up to the hotel is very narrow but you won’t be disappointed once you arrive as it’s in such a beautiful setting. We are regulars of Gidleigh Park and always receive a warm welcome back at check-in. The rooms are amazing, all mostly of a good size, spotlessly clean, and super comfortable. Our recommendation is a front facing room as the views are stunning of the perfectly manicured gardens and flowing river. We stayed for a couple of nights in May and enjoyed two fabulous Michelin starred dinners. We feel the food is the best it’s been in years currently so big congratulations to Ian and his team - keep it up! The staff are very attentive and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A special thanks goes to the team members led by Alex including (but not limited to) Marek, Charley, Catherine, Nicola, Jessica, Sam who all helped to make our stay very special and memorable and we can’t wait to return very soon.

Magnificent

A charming and calm Oasis of tranquility set in glorious landscaped grounds blending seamlessly into the grand magnificence of the surrounding moorland and river. Nothing was too much trouble for the amazing staff. The room was beautiful, service impeccable and the 5 and 7 course tasting menus divine. I won’t be a stranger!!

Romantic one night stay

Returning here after 10 years and happy to see that the property has been well looked after and service remains very good. We had a smaller room on the top floor but more than adequate for our one night stay.
