The gold standard for luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Absolutely perfect in every way. Staff is warm and welcoming. The breakfast buffet is incredibly, with a large assortment of hot and cold items. Truly a 5 star luxury hotel. Great location in Salamanca makes a good base for visiting top sites in Madrid; also convenient to Atocha train station. There is a house car that will take you anywhere within 5 km if it's available. Rooms are large and comfortable, with luxe amenities from Carner Barcelona. Two sinks, separate toilet from shower, robes, and more. Staff remembered us and greeted us by name.

Don't book red level rooms!! It's a scam.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We booked this hotel for our 3-day stay in Madrid as part of a visit to Europe including Paris and London. As a much anticipated trip we had been looking forward to for a long time, we paid extra for the highly uphelp status of "Red Level Room". Needless to say my expectations were quite high, as there is quite a surcharge to upgrade your room to Red Level Tier. Before you do the same, let me warn you about how we believe this was a scam. The hotel itself is situated in a very central area. Close to museums and shops. It is beautiful inside, although there are some design issues that could be improved in the rooms. The red level tier is supposed to get you private checkin (not desireable at all), better room on better floor (they gave us floor 1), and private area on seventh floor where you have exclusive access to snacks, tapas, breakfast, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all day. When we saw the private room on the 7th floor, it was really underwhelming. It looks like a cheap diner. The tapas leave you wanting to order something that's not sitting on the counter and free. The drinks are okay, but nothing fabulous (you have to mix your own drinks). Then there's the breakfast. We had breakfast there the first day (we thought it would be amazing, and special, exclusive). There were limited options, and the staff go heavy on suggesting for you to order something from the kitchen (extra cost). The next two days, we realized we could actually dine in the downstairs area, which is open to all the other hotel guests. THIS DOWNSTAIRS DINING HALL IS WONDERFUL, and ten times better than the 'kitchen' upstairs. So many more hot and cold options, extremely nice and accommodating staff, beautiful ambiance. I can go on. But you get the picture. The other issue we had was with accessibility. The room we booked (supreme, red-level), was only available with a bathtub and not a walk-in shower. There are no grab bars in the shower. But when I asked to switch, they said all the rooms are like that, with a bathtub, unless we would like to upgrade to a bigger redlevel room with a walk in shower. This would be 200$ more per day. The next day, I asked again, and the new lady said there were a couple of remodeled rooms with a shower, in my room category, and she was going to give us that on the second day. After moving in, it was clear that this was a 25sq meter room instead of the 33 in the room category. They gave me a smaller room, and called it the same size. Lies. Overall, the hotel is nice, and the non-red level staff are fantastic. But I see the red-level thing as a scam. The food isn't that great, you don't get better treatment, and the special access room looks like a tired diner. Book Carefully!

Best Hotel In Madrid

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We travel to Madrid very often and have stayed in many hotels across the city, but Hotel Fénix Gran Meliá is by far the best one we have experienced. The price-quality ratio is excellent, and the overall experience was truly outstanding. The rooms are on another level: elegant, quiet, spacious, and with incredibly comfortable beds. It is honestly hard to get out of them in the morning. The breakfast also deserves a special mention — absolutely perfect, easily one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had. What really makes this hotel exceptional, though, is the people. A very special thank you to Antonio, Jean Paul, and Santiago, who were constantly attentive throughout our entire stay. They always made sure everything was perfect, offered flexibility and help with anything we needed, arranged taxis for us, and were genuinely warm, kind, and professional at all times. Their attitude and level of care made a huge difference and made us feel truly welcomed. We also want to especially thank Gema from the concierge/administration team, who helped us solve a very stressful issue we had with Booking after a surprise cancellation. Thanks to her kindness and efficiency, we were able to get a room and continue our trip peacefully. We are incredibly grateful for her help. Spectacular hotel, even better people. We will definitely keep coming back. Gracias nuevamente por una atención excepcional.
