Such a great week! Staff and service has been excellent! Food choices are plentiful and delicious. We truly enjoyed Maria and Daihani each morning at breakfast as their attention to detail was fantastic!

Awful service across the hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

The hotel and its facilities are very good, but the attitude and service of its staff are terrible. They do not treat guests well, they carry out all their tasks lazily, and it is clear that none of the employees are happy with their jobs. I do not recommend to pay the cost of the hotel for the service you are going to get

10 days 9 Nights at the Reserve

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

This trip was for 10 days, from May 21 - May 30. My wife and I are both in our 50s. From Brooklyn, NY. We have been to tbis resort about ten times since 2005. May is not a super busy time at the resort. The weather overall was mid to upper 80s/ low 90s. My wife and I have been Elite Club Melia members since 2011. Normally we use our club options to stay at the Reserve. This time we had to convert option to rewards as the Reserve is no longer a choice for Club Melia. We chose to do this as we love the Reserve and didn’t want a swim up suite on the family side (as we don’t have kids). The club does still have swim up suites available in the non-adults only side. But as I mentioned that’s not what we wanted. As a swim up suite, you walk out a sliding glass door and a pool is right there. You have two chairs and an umbrella dedicated to your suite. Plus a patio with two chairs and a table. The shrubs and greenery mark off each unit making it private. One day someone took our chairs, but moved without any hassle when I pointed out that those were just for our suite. We had a junior suite which is more than enough room for two people. If you have 4 or more people, I would suggest getting a regular size suite. Our suite was on the corner, which meant it was closest to the beach. This part of the beach was for Reserve guests only. They do enforce it (they go by the wrist band you have). There are 10 restaurants Sante is for the Reserve members only. It has breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mediterranean food Mina - the steakhouse. Dinner only MasCalzone - Italian. Dinner only Blue agave - Mexican. Dinner only Lunch box - buffet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner Tokimeku - Japanese. Hibachi or a la carte Dinner only Kanna - lunch only. Flora - adults only. Dominican. Dinner only Olio. - this was a new restaurant. Mediterranean. Dinner only We went to the beach and pool every day. Except one day we just did the pool as it was raining part of the day We either ate breakfast or lunch, but not both. Just too much food, though we both like to eat. If we did breakfast first, we would then do the beach after breakfast. Say around 11. A few hours at the beach and then the pool around 2 If we didn’t have breakfast. We would go to the beach first. Have lunch around 2. Then the pool for a few hours. Most nights we had dinner at 8:30. The restaurants, kitchen usually closes at 10 and the restaurant closes at 10:30 or 11 There are 4 bars at the restaurants. Two close by 11. They are more bars in between two restaurants. So when the restaurants close they are done soon after. The have 6 seats at the bar and tables/ sofas which probably seat another 20 people One is Between Bar. The other is Rum Republic Then there is Ginger Bar. It is open until midnight. 10 seats at the bar and at least 100 people can sit on sofas/ chairs Kicks is the final bar. It’s open until 1 am. Youngest crowd. Sports game on several TVs. DJ some nights There are also entertainment shows every night. From 7 - 10. We didn’t go to any this trip as we’ve seen them on last trips. You can sit and have drinks in the open area (probably can seat 100 people). When you stay at the reserve, a conceirge is assigned to your room. Eriol was our conceirge. I am not exaggerating when he is the best conceirge we have ever had on any of our Melia trips. Which is two a year since 2011. So about 30. He was that attentive, without being on top of you. My wife’s birthday was the day after we arrived. I had contacted the resort in advance about her birthday. On the day we arrived, we had a bottle of wine and a small cake waiting. I thought this was for her birthday. Nope, that was a welcome gift. On her birthday, he did the room with balloons, filled the tub with a rose petal bubble bath and a bottle of champagne. Plus a larger cake waiting for her at the restaurant that we had dinner at that night. Throughout the trip, we had two more bottles of champagne, another bottle of wine. Fruits and chocolates. As club members we usually do get this as a welcome gift and on her birthday (we usually go then). But not five times in a ten day trip. He checked in with us every morning (what’s app is what the use). To tell us activities for the day and to see how the night before was. And was there anything that needed attention On our second day, we did something dumb that we have never done before. We left our safe wide open. Yanely, the housekeeper called security to have them lock it (as she wouldn’t know our code, so she couldn’t close it). Security left a note so we could get it reopen. Everything was as is, nothing was missing or moved. I was most worried about our passports being there. But we also had some jewelry and cash in there. When I called the front desk and security came they told me there was already a report of what happened on file. I asked our conceirge to find out who the housekeeper was for our day. So we could personally thank her and give her a reward. I appreciated the honest people involved in this Beach Pedro and Martin remembered us from our last two visits (each of the last two years). Pedro would reserve a Bali bed for us every morning. As it wasn’t that crowded, it was the same one each day. Rafael was the beach server we had most often. He would always starts us off with a bucket of champagne and OJ to make mimosas. All three of them were very good The beach is beautiful. The water while a beautiful color, isn’t always ideal for swimming. There’s a lot of seaweed. That and at times it is too rough to swim. I’m not much of a swimmer. My wife is. The pool server weren’t as attentive as the beach servers. There is a pool bar where you can get drinks yourself. Hydro is the name of the bar. The pool bar closes at 6 If you don’t have a swim up suite there are lounge chairs available. The pool was never super packed. Always plenty of room. There is a huge pool not far from this one. I’ll call it the main pool. We didn’t use this as we had the swim up pool. The main pool of course allows kids and does have activities We went to Sante once for dinner. A few times for breakfast or lunch. Barnelis is the hostess. She remembered us from our last two trips. Franklin (a waiter) remembered us. The food at Sante is always very good. Can get things from shrimp to steak to chicken. For breakfast they have a small buffet (if you want a larger one, go to lunchbox restaurant). They have eggs or omelettes made to order. For lunch there is also a buffet or a la carte. Dinner is just the menu. One day I had an upset stomach (not from all the alcohol, that I’m used to :)). Gieny had the bartender make me a non alcohol drink which settled it right away. The bartender came over to explain to me what was in it Kanna. We had lunch here three times. We remember Luis (waiter) from prior trips. He wasn’t there the first day. But when we asked for him, the hostess mentioned it to him the next day as he saw us at a different restaurant when we had dinner. He was our Waiter here the other two times this trip. He’s very personable, funny and professional Flora Sterling (waiter) remembered us from prior trips. This was Dominican food. We ate there once and liked it better than last time Mascalzone. We had dinner there once. It’s good but as we are from Brooklyn, we do have a lot of Italian food. It is a quicker meal and more casual Mina. We had dinner here twice (as it’s our favorite place). It’s the steakhouse. Wander was our server both nights. He’s very attentive. Tbis was the one time we paid for upgraded wine. Each of the two times we bought a bottle. The sides are very good. As are the various steaks. Appetizers were fine as well They did lose our reservation one night. But we got a table right away Blue agave. Had dinner here once. Luis (the waiter I mentioned at Kanna earlier) was our server as well. Typical Mexican fare. As New Yorkers, we do eat Mexican food semi frequently. Very good food. Olio Lost our reservation. But gave us a table right away anyway. Food was good. Tokimeku, we had the hibachi dinner Daniel was the hibachi chef. More entertaining than the average chef. Different Version of the usual show/presentation We went to Ginger bar, five of the nine nights Luis and Miguel were the two bartenders. They both remembered us from prior trips. They are both very good at their jobs. Friendly as well Kicks bar. We went there three times There is another Luis. He is the supervisor of the four bars. He recognized us the first night we were at Kicks. We saw him every night at different places. Would always come over to where we were sitting. Luis is a bartender at Kicks. He recognized us from years. Felix was another bartender. They had run out of grey goose (my wife’s favorite vodka). Even though it was packed and a half hour to closing, he was able to get another bottle from the back Rum republic bar We went there three times Victor was the bartender. The day we left. Jose picked up our bags. He waited 15 minutes with us until our ride to the airport came. Overall this was a great trip. I highly recommend it
