With a splendid seaside location in Normandy, less than two hours from Paris, Deauville has gained quite a reputation among French society. Blending style, comfort, and refined elegance, the Hotel Barriere Le Royal Deauville is a study in the fine art of luxury in the heart of this charming town. Built in 1913, when Deauville was a magnet for the wealthy and stylish of Europe, the impressive façade of this Leading Hotels of the World member still presides over the center of town. Each of its sumptuous guestrooms and suites features exquisite details and antique appointment, while gourmet treats include seafood dishes at Le Côte Royal and terrace dining at L'Etrier.

Extraordinary hotel in an exceptional city. A grand hotel with a magnificent history that offers a perfect blend of the classic and the modern. This hotel stands apart for many reasons but two of them are the careful attention to detail at every turn 9 the smallest item was anticipated and available. The staff was attentive and smiling. Warm friendly welcome with bellmen and reception staff. Escorted to our room with wonderful vies of the forever beach. The room was large, expansive with a grand bathroom with a 'to love' shower. Meticulously clean. Breakfast was first rate and well above many other fine hotels with great variety and foods to please everyone. The bar area, the piano music and the drinks perfectly fit the tone of this 5 star hotel. Surrounding the hotel is the very French but oh so welcoming tone of Deauville with Tourville just a short walk away. Excellent local restaurants with strong recommendations from the concierge - loved dinning with locals and few if any tourists at Marion Restaurant and Le Countair de table for two examples. The gem however is the Hotel Normandy. A grand hotel that befits its name and with its sister hotels the Royal and Hotel de Golf, this is a hotel well suited for both corporate programs and high end leisure clientele . 5 star in all respects

We had the pleasure of staying at the Le Royal as a break from our busy sight seeing itinerary in Paris this July. We soon fell in love with Deauville and its people. The staff is by far the hotel’s greatest asset after location. Kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming, they were a highlight of our stay, especially Fabien at the Concierge desk who offered the very best recommendations on where to eat. I would let him point you in the direction of every meal and cocktail so you can avoid the tourist traps. It was clear that the hotel had once been a beacon of elegance and its rich history permeated every aspect of our experience. When we first arrived, I admit to being disappointed to find the hotel wore clear marks of her age. Distressed paint, aging carpets and dated bathrooms were prevalent and unexpected given they were not reflected in any of the online photography. As an American, distress and age in a building are usually a sign of lack of care and upkeep, but it’s clear that is not the case at the Le Royal, a building whose long history might be reflected in her appearance but whose long commitment to excellence and elegance overshadows the chipped paint. Expectations are so often the thief of joy, and so I suggest you set yours accordingly and then look past these little details to imagine life here during its heyday so you can enjoy both the hotel and the town’s many charms. One other thing worth noting is that we’d come in search of a beach holiday, but the weather was less than accommodating, so pack your swimsuit but make backup plans for how to spend your time. For us, when the sun failed to make an appearance, we enjoyed exploring Deauville and the nearby medieval towns. With its distance just a 2 hour train ride away from Paris, it’s a great place to break from busy city life

I had an excellent stay at the Ryal Barriere. First, I did have a room with AC but it was unrenovated, to be fair. I do think the renovated rooms are prettier but perhaps AC is missing based on some other reviews - they do have both though so it's worth asking. I don't think I lacked anything functionally in an older room. It was very large with a beautiful sea view. The bed and bedding were divine, one of the most comfortable I've experienced. The bathroom amenities are luxurious. Caramels on your pillows as part of turndown service. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are having a good visit (and you don't feel constantly judged or watched). The hotel gives you complementary headphones so you can use at the gym (or elsewhere); I found the gym (as well as sauna and steam room) to be relatively uncrowded. Fabien and Jody and everyone else at the concierge desk are amazing. Mgmt gave amazing welcome gifts, my only request to mgmt there is please don't assume everyone wants wine (or can travel with it)...give people a choice.

I am shocked that this isn't the #1 hotel in Deauville. Some of the reviews here mention the interior needing a refresher, but the only thing we noticed is that in the hallway of the floor we were staying on, you could see the seams on some of the wallpaper and some wood paneling looks older. That is in no way a reason to avoid this property, and it does not distract from having a 5-star experience there. The staff at the property are so personal and professional and go above and beyond to provide you with personalization and care. After checking in, we were given a tour of and some history about the property. We were shown our room which was stunningly beautiful! The bathroom was large and modern, the room was very spacious and completely spotless, and the sea view from the balcony was breathtaking. The room comes equipped with yoga mats. We needed an iron and an ironing board, but the room didn't have one. We called for one, and it was delivered within minutes, and we were able to keep it for the remainder of our stay. There were fair prices for laundry service too, which we utilized. Nothing is overlooked in the toiletry supply, including shaving kit, toothbrush kit, perfume, etc. The beds at the Hôtels Barrière are *the* most comfortable - the mattresses, the bedding (somehow the comforter keeps you perfectly warm without over-heating!), the pillows. Turn-down service left little local caramels on the pillows. Fresh glass bottles of water are left in your room daily (and you can also get boxed water from the concierge when you're on your way out for the day). The room was just perfect. There is a lot to do at the hotel, and we wished we could have stayed longer! There is a pool, at which you can order drinks and food. The beach out front is massive and gorgeous. There are several hotel cafes along the beach boardwalk with food that is delicious and just the kind of food you want to eat when at the shore on a warm day (oysters, burrata and tomatoes, french fries, ice cream, and a large drink selection). All of the food at the hotel is top quality (best meals of our trip). Do not miss the breakfast! They have everything you could every want from pastries to a juice maker to eggs and meats, and a special gluten-free station. They also have local cider and champagne, along with many fresh juices. Dinner at the hotel is just as good, and the lobby lounge/bar has good cocktails and live music. You can also utilize the Kids Club and Teens Club at the sister hotel, Le Normandy, which is just a block away. We did not have time to enjoy them, but there is also a spa and complementary bicycles to use. Our only regret is that we did not plan for a longer stay!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Royal Barrierre in Deauville, France, from April 5 through April 9, 2004. This hotel is elegant yet warm, and the staff is very friendly. We especially appreciate the concierge, Frank, who helped us plan our driving trip to some of the D-Day sites along the Normandy coast. Also Pamela, one of the waitresses in the dining room at breakfast, went out of her way to be warm, friendly and helpful to us. Our room was truly luxurious. This is a hotel that we hope to return to on future vacations.
