Rising like a Phoenix from the desert floor is The Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa, a Starwood Resort property, located in stylish Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs. The collection of rooms is inviting, tasteful and a perfect complement to the desert terrain with earthy hues, rich textiles, and terraces overlooking the grounds and golf courses. And, speaking of golf, swingers can take to one of two championship courses while at the Westin Hills Resort that will challenge even the most skilled player. There are also tennis courts, fitness facilities, and a free-form swimming pool shaded by leafy palm trees and flanked by ample-size loungers.

Hands-down, my favorite resort that me and my daughter go to three years in a row after the last day of school. It has waterslides, arcade, mini bowling, and a great pool to keep kids entertained and free happy hour, bike rentals, and tennis courts and other amenities to keep me happy. The best part is there’s always a dog up for adoption in the lobby that you can sign up to take for a walk so you can get your dog cuddles in. Even koi fish and a tortoise to observe. We’ve also taken a day trip to Joshua Tree to see the Milky Way and another time visited taken into town to see the stars from the local observatory. Just a nice little desert getaway that can keep a whole family happy.

The last time we stayed here was 16 years ago, and this return visit was truly memorable, thanks to some outstanding hospitality. From the moment we arrived, Christopher at the front desk brought amazing energy and made sure we were fully informed about all the available amenities. Later, we were greeted by Adrian at the Fireside, who gave us excellent recommendations for food and drinks. To top off the evening, the live soloist Chris Lomelí at 6 PM was fantastic, playing a great variety of musical genres. We did experience a little glitch during our stay, but the manager, Leonel, was incredibly quick to resolve it and completely turned things around to ensure we had a great time. The only downside was at the large pool, where we had to walk up to the bar ourselves because no server came over to take our order. Aside from that minor glitch, it was a wonderful stay!

Just an incredible experience from start to finish. Beautiful, spacious rooms. Every staff member went above and beyond to provide exceptional service, and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable experience. My only minor suggestion would be to expand the selection in the gift shop — otherwise, I was delighted with my stay.

Attended a multi-day conference here. My ground floor room was clean. I requested a ground floor unit, as this property does not have an elevator. Check-in: Arrived at noon, ahead of the official 4pm check-in. Rooms were not ready until 6pm for most of the conference group, two full hours past standard check-in. Conference catering: During networking they served beef and potato canapés that were cold and appeared to come straight from the freezer. At the conference lunch, glassware had visible water marks and did not look clean. At a property at this price point, these details matter. In-room phone: No labels on the phone. Zero and nine both went nowhere. Ended up using the Marriott Bonvoy app chat, which worked but had delayed responses. What is the point of the phone if it is not functional. What worked: Fireside Lounge staff and front desk were warm. The property offers complimentary 3 hour bike rentals and access to the driving range, which I did not get to use. You can borrow clubs with the valet .
