About the Hotel

Strawberry Hill gleaned its name from the favorite crop of its original owner, who was given the estate by the British Royal Family in 1780. Generations of prominent families added to its legacy, welcoming high society and rock 'n' roll royalty to its peaceful grounds. Jamaican architect Ann Hodges turned Strawberry Hill into what it is today, a collection of white wood-framed cottages and villas, each with a distinctive style that preserves its history and reflects the culture of local artisans.

Georgeous location - hotel needs a refresh

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed here for two nights for a special occasion. From what I gather, this place has been on the market for some time, so the proprietor might be reluctant to sink more money into it, and that shows, in unfortunate ways, while prices remain high. Location: 10/10. Wonderful views. The gardens are just stunning: 10/10. The rooms. Well, they need some tender loving care. Our bed moved and shook each time one of us needed to go to the bathroom at night. Not good enough at this price point. There was no TV (great for us, but beware!). There is a generous quantity of local plunger coffee coffee, and a great selection of teas. They replenish milk each day (great!), as well as bottled water. We had an indoor and an outdoor shower. That was pretty cool, but ... there were left-over shampoo bottles and soap from the guests who stayed there before us. This, unfortunately, set the theme. Maintenance: 4/10. Out of two days we had no light in the bathroom the first night, despite pleading with the receptionist to have that fixed. He promised it would be doner after dinner, but nobody actually showed up. The maintenance guy came in the afternoon of the second day and replaced one of two broken lightbulbs, the second continued to keep flickering. It's clear that management doesn't pay a great deal of attention to detail. How at this price point you'd allocate a room without light in the bathroom, beats me. I received a cost neutral apology on check out, but zero attempt was met to fix the problem when it should have been fixed, because nobody seems to care about anything at the maintenance end of things. Maintenance: 4/10 The welcome letter tells you about the many great facilities available to you, among them a sauna. I checked it out, the dials are all broken off and dysfunctional, no idea how you'd get it going. Maintenance: 4/10 There's rubbish on the stairs we had to climb each days up to the main house, clearly cleaners pay little attention to detail, because management doesn't seem to care either. Food: 8/10 The included breakfast is basic, but you're warned during your booking that only continental breakfast is included. In a country with endless fruit varieties the fruit juices are 'plastic', canned juices, as so often in the Caribbean. Nothing makes sense. Now, we had lunch and dinner here, and the food quality has been consistently good, so have been the cocktails. Everything is somewhat overpriced, given that this isn't quite the Ritz Carlton, but I haven't regretted a single food choice I made. Just beware, if you spend more than 2-3 days here, you quickly run out of menu options. Staff: 10/10. I cannot praise the service staff in the restaurant enough. Even when staffing levels were too low for the number of guests the staff members were consistently genuinely friendly and cheerful. The restaurant is open to the public, so people come up the hill for special occasions, which kills unfortunately much of the tranquility of the place, but I understand that, bills need to be paid, and tranquility doesn't quite pay the workers. I wouldn't hesitate to return here (and probably will), but I wish management was more hands-on than it is, and paid closer attention to the state of affairs as it is experienced by customers paying the fairly high nightly rates.

Beautiful Hotel With Stunning Views

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Strawberry Hill is truly a beautiful place to stay. I spent three nights there with my sister. The scenery and views are stunning. The rooms are basic but nice and clean. We stayed in a cottage studio. There is a mosquitoe net that covers your bed for the nights and all windows are netted. There are quite a few steps to get to the studios and getting around the property, so if you walk with an aid, you will encounter problems . Each day bottles of water, a box of milk and herbal teabags are left for you. The continental breakfast is adequate, fruits, porridge or eggs, pastries and a glass of juice. The staff are friendly and enhance your stay. My only complaint would be that I asked the female who attendeded the bar, for a rum and coke I specifically asked if the rum was Wray and Nephew white rum. She said yes. It was not, and on providing the bill she had tried to charge me for a Chris Blackwell rum, further confirmation that it was not the rum I had asked for. I later on asked the male bartender if they had any Wray and Nephew white rum and he said no. I dont like that if you dont have what drink I have asked for just say so. All that being said I would definitely stay at the Strawberry Hill Hotel again and again.

Stunning setting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

What a beautiful place! We loved the location and the history. The views here are spectacular! Looking down over Kingston from the infinity pool and restaurant. And the stunning Blue Mountains from our room. The spa is gorgeous. You should definitely make time for a treatment if you can. It's very tranquil, and the service was very professional. The food is delicious. The restaurant service could be a little slow, even when it wasn't busy. It wasn't an issue, we weren't in a rush. The bar service was excellent. A great stay and I would reccomend.

Gorgeous clean rooms, spectacular views, friendly staff, tasty food & drink - what more could you ask for! Our stay at Strawberry Hill may have been just off-season, as we felt we almost had the place to ourselves. Book a couple of nights for a treat, you won't regret it.
