Very good location. I think it is overrated for a 5-star hotel. No turned down and change of towels offered at night. Breakfast is standard, but the restaurant is very close to the reception so you are in the middle of check-in and chech-out. You cannot give this hotel 5 stars like the Mandarin or the Four Seasons.

Just wow! Central location. Beautiful hotel. Quiet room. Comfortable bed. Clean as a whistle. The best feature of The Principle? The staff, including the wonderful Rafael. And Sergio. All of you! Oh, and the equal best? The facial and massage. The very best I’ve ever, ever had. Thank you.

Great location, close to all important spots. We luckily had an upgrade and enjoyed a room with Gran Via view. Rafael and the whole team were amazing. Attentive, helpful, fun and very very friendly. Rafael has kindly offered us our final drinks before leaving the hotel. Had a wonderful stay and will definitely choose this hotel when we return. Thank you Rafael, David, Lenin and the rest of the team :)

This was our last hotel on a 3 week trip to Spain. We booked through Amex as part of their Hotel Collection and we were exited to stay in a superior hotel in Madrid. The positives were the staff at the hotel. Everyone very friendly and helpful. The outdoor terraces on the 7th Floor were lovely with beautiful views and flowers. The hotel is rather odd, there is no lobby, just steps off the street into a kind of small area with a host stand where you are greeted. The lobby is on the 6th floor (if I can remember correctly). You are transported there by an odd glass tube (they may call it an elevator). 2 people max no bags. For those old enough it reminded me of being in a pneumatic tube that they used to have in stores and bank drive through. There was another elevator at the side but as luck would have it the room we were assigned on floor 2 was the only floor the back elevator did not stop at, so the glass tube it was. Now for the room we were assigned in the 2nd floor (no upgrade available). If you like dark, this was your room, black carpet, very dark blackish paint on wall and black bathroom. Small room with barely anywhere to put stuff down. No closet just selves and hanging space with a curtain drawn across (kind of Aloft and Moxy like). At approximately $600 a night I really expected more. I’m no novice to small European hotels as I have travelled there extensively over the years but this was a different level. I’m sure if you get the right room you will enjoy. Just don’t expect if you book through Amex Hotel Collection.

The hotel is elegant, charming and maintains the historic feel of Madrid while still providing first class amenities and modern conveniences. The staff are attentive, friendly and supportive in any way necessary to help you feel relaxed and welcome throughout your stay.
