Very good hotel in the centre of Oslo. The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the National theatre rail station and close to most of the tram routes. It is an older hotel in the classical style. The location earns an extra star. Our room was on floor 7. It was a good size, clean and comfortable. The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was small but well appointed. The walk in shower was excellent but drained so slowly the water ran in to the main area of the bathroom. The bar fridge was not working. Despite reporting this the issue was not addressed during our stay. The air conditioner was not very efficient. An update is due. These were not major issues for us but I removed a star to reflect them. The front of house staff were all polite and helpful. The breakfast, served in the adjacent Grand Cafe accessed via the lobby, was very good. There was a large selection of hot and cold foods including local fish dishes and the selection of fresh breads was good. Service was efficient. Overall a good hotel but with some minor maintenance issues.

Be aware there is no air conditioning system that works. You think it isnt necessary in a Nordic country but summer temps are hot! It is an old tired hotel with a glamorous lobby and CBD location but really nothing works and rooms are very small and hot. It is a conference hotel not a leisure tourism place. Nothing special or modern here.

We enjoyed our stay here despite the hotel workers striking. Our room was spacious for Europe but the carpet needed upgrading. The hotel is old but Grand, the restaurant has a wonderful breakfast brunch. Location is excellent and a short walk to the train station.

Our room was very hot . The next morning we asked to have our air conditioner checked .. we were told that our room , as were many In the hotel are not air conditioned. Quite shocked for a 5 star hotel . We checked the web site and under room selection this was not mentioned . We asked to change our room and the woman at the front desk said none were available. And no consideration was offered from the hotel !! Yes we opened our window , but cooking smell was what we encountered. WE NEVER would have booked this, if our room selection had mentioned this.. We have stayed in many old luxury hotels, and NEVER had this before. You would think in 2026 and a 5 star hotel , air conditioning would be a No Brainer !!! We booked in Sept 2025, and upon arrival we were also told that there is an ongoing labour strike and the hotel could not guarantee all services !! You would think that a five star hotel would have made an effort to advise patrons on this .. i would challenge what YOUR 5 star rating really means !!!

During the strike Scandic overbooked the hotel by selling full price stays. They then moved everyone to their cheapest budget hotels hours before check in, and demanded the full price, no compensation. This way they could exploit the situation and double their rates while blaming force majeure. Was ghosted for a week when trying to complain Be aware that you can be moved to a cheap hotel without compensation or even a chance to complain hours before check in. Dont trust your reservation from Grand! Never again!
