South Caicos
South Caicos exists today as one of the few unspoiled tropical destinations. Among the smaller islands in the Turks and Caicos Islands, (eight square miles), South Caicos is renowned for white powder beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, ocean-side bluffs, quiet bays and salt-water flats teeming with pink flamingos. Cockburn Harbour town is home to most of the island’s eight hundred (800) residents. With Caribbean-inspired homes on narrow streets lined with native stonewalls, the village harkens back to a simpler time and lifestyle. The charming and authentic Caribbean atmosphere of a village imbued with hundreds of years of rich history and culture is a rare find in a resort destination.
Environment
Relatively untouched by humans, South Caicos’ reef system is considered the healthiest and most vibrant in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Over fifty (50) species of coral abound, with spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, grouper, snapper and dolphin fish all part of this spectacular reef system, making it a premier SCUBA diving and snorkeling destination.
The waters surrounding South Caicos offer a diverse and spectacular background. The turquoise waters to the south and east turn to a deep cobalt blue just past the coral reef system, where the water drops from fifty (50) feet to seven thousand (7000) feet. It is here where anglers find world-class offshore sport fishing for sailfish, wahoo, mahi-mahi, marlin and yellow-fin tuna. The shallow waters of Caicos Banks to the west, is considered a haven for bonefishing.
Sailrock
Sailrock is a low-density resort & residence community, set on the southern portion of Sailrock Peninsula. Situated on a ridge sixty feet above the sparkling Columbus passage to the east and the Caicos Bank to the west. Sailrock boasts spectacular sunrise and sunset views. Clean Caribbean architecture defines Great House, with large, shaded verandas, and pool decks, which place the emphasis on casual comfort and laid back outdoor living.

Sailrock is all about beautiful landscapes, super nice and responsive staff, and fun activities along with a low key , casual vibe. I love that nothing is ostentatious about this place and no one is rating and judging your looks or wealth. The Bay side beach is gorgeous and offers complimentary Hobie Cats, paddle boards and kayaks. There is a bar and restaurant right there on the beach, perfectly situated for an amazing sunset. I had two wonderful deep tissue massages in a covered outdoor space; during one a wild burro stopped by to drink from a bowl Dewi my massage therapist had left out. At Sailrock, you can’t help but be absolutely steeped in nature. You can do yoga on an outdoor platform with a view to the sea. You can swim in the turquoise bay or float easily as you are swayed by gentle waves. We took a guided kayak tour of “shark infested waters” spiked with a healthy dose of huge black sting rays, ominously gliding and slithering to and fro just under the surface in the shallows. Ben Z. is the guide- he is smart, kind, funny and full of knowledge about the sea and sea creatures. Mario gave us a mixology lesson and graciously catered to my preference for mock vs cocktails. As it was very hot during our week at Sailrock we unfortunately did not make use of the pickleball or tennis courts. The only downside for me was the food preparation. There were two dishes I loved and ordered on repeat - the raw rainbow salad and the quinoa and chia porridge were delicious. And the baked goods, particularly the ones delivered every night at turndown, were exceptional. One such treat was the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever tasted - and I’ve had a lot! However, there were instances when the produce was not as fresh as I would have liked. And there were a very few dishes that were simply not well prepared (for example, the lentil curry). All in all, however, to me, this was the perfect break that I needed from my cortisol filled days of work and life in DC. I plan to return to Sailrock as soon as possible! And I’m pretty sure my husband will let me “drag” him along again!

Our stay at Sailrock Resort was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the entire team made us feel like family. This resort is the epitome of peace and serenity — breathtaking views, beautiful surroundings, and the kind of quiet luxury that allows you to completely relax and recharge. A very special thank you to Eddie, the General Manager, and Harvey, the head welcome manager, for creating such a warm and welcoming experience from start to finish. The welcome team was incredible, especially Kiki at reception and Latrell, who picked us up from the airport and immediately made us feel at home. The service throughout the resort was beyond exceptional. At the restaurants, Karyle Anne gave us some of the best service we have ever experienced — attentive, kind, and always smiling. We were also so impressed by Kimberly, Ezra, Earl, Benjamin, and Paul, who all went above and beyond every single day. The pool and beach experience was amazing thanks to Benjamin, Junior, and Jose, who took such great care of us. Augus at the bar made every evening special with fantastic drinks and a wonderful personality. The spa was another highlight of our trip. The massages from Eko and Dewi were absolutely incredible and left us feeling completely relaxed. We also want to recognize the wonderful morning and lunch crew, especially Tashi and Jarus, who started every day with excellent service and warm hospitality. And finally, thank you to the amazing drivers — Komang, Sher, and Twane — who were always friendly, professional, and welcoming. Every single person at Sailrock contributed to making this one of the best vacations we have ever had. The genuine kindness and hospitality of the staff are what truly set this resort apart. We cannot wait to return to paradise.

To provide a frame of reference for this review, I’ve stayed at both the Ritz and The Beverly Hills Hotel. I’ve also visited various Caribbean islands. Pros: 1. On a 5-star scale, the hospitality and service at Sailrock is 10 star. Certain team members in particular are incredible - Karlyle, Harvey, Kimberly, and Earl. They treat you like family. Nothing is too much trouble. They anticipate your needs before you realize you have a need. 2. The beach is amazing. Crystal clear water, shallow, pristine. 3. They offer complimentary non-motorized water sports (SUP, kayaks, Hobie Cats) at no additional cost. It was a huge plus for us. 4. They offer bicycles for use at no cost. We rode to town and to the old Coast Guard station. Another huge plus for us. 5. The restaurant quality is amazing - both food and service. The chef will modify meals as requested. 6. South Caicos is the best Caribbean island we have visited. Much better than Provo. The locals are very friendly, it is relatively clean, and there aren’t starving stray dogs. I believe Sailrock sponsored a spay and neuter event. This is important to me. No one wants to spend a vacation with a broken heart over poor hungry dogs. I left Provo in tears a few years ago. 7. The resort is thoughtfully designed. The Great House has amazing views in both directions. The paths between buildings are beautifully landscaped. There are no bad accommodations at the resort. We stayed in a Ridgetop suite 7D. We think 7D and 7C are ideal for 2 people. 8. The airport in South Caicos is super quick and easy to navigate. Fly directly to South Caicos from MIA via AA on Wed and Sundays. Sailrock will be there to pick you up. 9. They deliver fresh baked goods to your room each evening. Such a nice surprise. Cons: 1. If I were hard pressed to offer a con, it would have been nice if the bikes had baskets because wearing the backpack got hot. Truly, that is the only thing I can think of. Sailrock is special. It is a boutique resort experience. It is quiet and relaxing. I typically don’t return to the same places multiple times, but I do expect to return to Sailrock. It is that good.

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at Sailrock. We have been to Provo several times and were looking for the same beautiful water - however, also looking for a bit more quiet. Sailrock was perfect. The suite was exceptional. The food was excellent - which is important (there are no other readily available options). The most striking feature was the service. The staff was exceptional. We are already planning returning in 2027.
