About the Hotel
The Vidago Palace Hotel is located in the north of Portugal, one hour away from the airport of Oporto and 30 minutes from the famous Douro Valley, considered Unesco´s world heritage. The hotel was commissioned by the last King of Portugal D. Carlos I and opened in 1910. At this time the legendary Vidago mineral water were considerate an asset of national interest. After 4 years of refurbishment, the hotel reopens in 2010, upgraded to a 5-star resort and proud member of Leading Hotels of the World. Currently the Vidago Palace offers 70 bedrooms and suites full of elegance, 6 restaurants and bars located throughout the hotel with different services and menus by a Michelin Star awarded Chef, a thermal SPA transformed into a Zen-inspired, minimalist space, an 18 holes championship golf course designed by Cameron and Powell and a Conference Center to receive all type of meeting and conferences.

Beautiful
Beautifully restored old historic palace. Great staff. Beautiful grounds. Breakfast was excellent in a well decorated room. Cool grand staircase in the lobby. Very nice and inviting outside bar/cafe area overlooking the gardens. Short walk to the small village.

Full Experience
One of the best hotels I ever been to. It's an experience. From the arrival, the spa, the meals, breakfast, the building and the surrounding gardens and even the check-out. Loved it.

Vidago Palace … stay of dreams
Loved Vidago Palace. The old world luxury & grace is disarming. It’s easy to feel transported to another time. Then there’s the Spa. OMG! Worth the visit. And another visit. The mineral baths are indeed healing (please turn up the heat in the jacuzzi). Steam bath/sauna/ice plunge. Amazing. And then the 1star Michelin Resto … dinner to die for. We loved our stay & wished we’d booked 2 nights. Next time!

Absolute perfect escape
I don't know where to start really. The whole experience at Vidago Palace was truly perfect. From every member of staff, food in all the restaurants/bar, bedrooms where I had the best 4 nights sleep that I had in ages, the grounds and the excursions. If you want a special holiday or short escape, visit here. You won't be disappointed.

Could be good, but isn't
The hotel has been restored/maintained beautifully. The architecture is great, and the grounds are nicely designed. BUT, it stops there. Rooms are small though clean. F&B is scandalously poor in terms of quality and value. Both days we stayed, the power system, wifi, and water supply to the shower failed. Nothing heard from management. Staff friendly enough, but certainly not trained to a 5 star standard. The management needs to be upgraded and F&B hugely improved to even begin to warrant the silly prices. We will never return and it is a pity because it could be a good place.
