Club Room Oceanfront King March 9-16th 2025

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Honest Review: Long. But honest. Stayed in the Club building, 2nd floor, oceanfront king. March 9-16. The grounds were really pretty. Clean and well kept. Big enough resort you didn’t feel lost but small enough you didn’t feel like walking anywhere took forever. Club rooms very close to restaurants and main pool. Quick to get back to your room if needed. Just a note there is construction to the north of the resort so if you are in a villa, it is right beside you. We don’t hear construction though from the Club building. Room: It was a great room. Beds were comfortable and spacious. Had a steamer but no iron. We could have probably asked for one if needed but the steamer sufficed. Toilet room only had frosted glass door that you could see through which was weird. Shower -2 rain heads and one handheld. Had great water pressure. Shampoo confirmed and body wash was great. 10/10 Second floor was just outside the buffet restaurant though. Raccoons outside of our door one evening. I’ll get to the raccoons later in the post. A higher floor would have been best. 9/10 Beach: Seaweed piled up most of the week. So much that the beach was not walkable and could not go into the water. Middle of the week they bulldozed it to the best of their abilities and put up a water barrier. Cleaned up enough that you could walk the beach. But still seaweed in the water. Brown and murky. But people still went in. 2/10 Pool: The chair game is real. If you did not have a towel out by 7 AM you couldn’t find anything under an umbrella. Only one day did I see staff clearing out towels that were unused. But if you put a hat or a book or T-shirt on your towel and chair, they left it alone. Pool was great. Entertainment staff always had something going during the day for entertainment by the pool, music activities, etc. Bar and wait staff excellent. Temperature of the pool was great. Even a little warm as the sun heated it up during the day. Bali beds for rent poolside. I feel like there were too many blocking the view of the pool, but they want to make money so they’re gonna put as many cabanas as they can poolside. My experience with this later in the post under the negative. 8/10 Food: Food was ok. I didn’t starve. But it was not fabulous. Best food of the week was the shrimp tacos at the Bluewater Grill for lunch. Dinner was good there too. They had a great mixed berry salad. And if you have access to the rooftop Gohan restaurant, their Gohan nacho plate was large and delicious. And you got guacamole! Other restaurants were hit and miss. Mexican did a good fajita, Bordeaux had good French onion soup, Buffet had theme nights every night. Caribbean, Asian, Italian . The night we went was international. The create your own pasta station was the best food of the week. Buffet was great for breakfast. The only (BIG) issue I had with the buffet was the raccoons at dinner time. The staff didn’t seem to care when we pointed out the raccoons crawling along the top of the brick walls looking down onto the restaurant. In most countries I know of raccoons are a health and safety violation. We stopped eating there at dinner after that. 4/10 Poolside Grill: Great for lunch. Excellent fries, chicken wings always had chips queso and toppings available which were delicious. Burgers were good. Never found any guacamole there. Pizza wasn’t great. 8/10 Entertainment: Staff did an excellent job, always providing some sort of entertainment throughout the day and evening. Poolside activities were fun. Staff was engaging of everyone. Nighttime shows we only saw one as most of the time it interfered with our preference for a late dinner. But what we saw was great. 10/10 Coco Cafe and Revive: excellent coffee and gelato 10/10. The barista even remembered my order every day! Did not go into the Scores sports bar and even though the Seaside Grill is listed as an option it was closed to the whole time we were there. We had access to preferred adults only pool that we used one afternoon. It was set back amongst trees. I would’ve preferred if it was closer to the ocean, but it was a quiet and relaxed and was fine if you like that atmosphere. They did have some sort of an activity once during the day at the preferred pool. Some beds close to the pool where a charge but one set back in the trees were free if you reserved it the day before. Rooftop infinity pool and beds: 10/10. Best place to relax. It was windy sometimes but that gave great heat relief. Also hotter up there too. But great pool, staff, umbrellas, beds to lay in, great restaurant. Although - waiter at restaurant ignored my table of two and focused on a larger table (with high school kids that probably weren’t over 18 to be up there) that was ordering Sake (for extra $$) so that wasn’t great. He delivered my food, and never came back to check, refill water, ask if I wanted something else. Never even made eye contact. But the rest of the rooftop was amazing. The waterslides in the kids section was fun even for adults. Dreams is supposed to have a no spring break policy - but on the Friday, 3 high schools with 180 kids showed up and took over the main pool. I’m glad we could retreat to the rooftop. They made it loud, and you could never get close to the swim up bar to get a drink. Or any bar. I will never go during a spring break time again. I felt bad for families with young kids who could not retreat to an adults only section. I did not use the spa, even though we were given a free hydrotherapy session with our package. I did hear of a woman at complain that she was charged for cream that they used at her free session even though she was unaware she “signed for it” during her session. Which brings me to the next beware… Beware: Bali beds main pool. Included in my Sunwing package was a one day free rental. When I went to the VIP concierge to arrange a day, they told me it was not included. She asked me for the email that I received to show what my inclusions were when I booked a club level room. I never received an email with my inclusions, only my room category. But I told her I booked my room category based on Sunwing’s description of inclusions. She said I would’ve received an email from the hotel one week prior to my arrival which I never received. They argued with me for a good 15 minutes that if I cannot prove in an email that it was included, they couldn’t give it to me. I finally showed them on the Sunwing website what it listed and since I was able to prove it from the Sunwing description, they relented and gave it to me. It was also supposed to include one bottle of champagne. The pool concierge told me it included a bottle champagne and asked what kind we wanted. We declined the champagne as I knew we wouldn’t drink it. The pool concierge had me sign a receipt book that had my name, room number and date and he said I was signing saying that I received a bali bed. Upon checkout I was told I had a balance owing of US$150 for the bed. I had to re-argue and prove myself , I told her who I spoke to and she “finally found the note on my file saying the bed was free”. Then she informed me I owed US$50 for the bottle of champagne I never took. I told her we were offered it and declined it and I wasn’t paying for a bottle we never drank. She called someone in the pool concierge area and he produced a receipt that had my signature on it, but now it was filled out with the price of the bed and the bottle of champagne!! It made me angry that they had me sign a blank receipt and then filled in a charge after. And to them, they said, I signed off on it because my signature was on the paper. I pointed out that they filled out the charge AFTER I signed and that even if I had drank the bottle, it was included in the rental fee. She said it wasn’t. She asked me for my credit card and I refused. Eventually, I told her I was leaving in order not to miss my flight, and that I would be writing a review. She made me write down a statement explaining the situation and finally gave me my check out slip. Lesson learned. Do not sign a blank receipt form. Wait till the end of the day when you can see all your “charges” for the day. If it wasn’t for the raccoons near my room and at the restaurant, and the bad experience with the Bali bed I would give the resort a 6/10. I probably won’t go back.

Alfredo is the man!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Had an unforgettable birthday dinner at Dreams Sapphire Resort, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Alfredo at the hibachi grill. The entire experience was incredible—from the energy at the table to the flawless presentation of the food. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the show itself was so much fun. But the real highlight of the night was Alfredo. His service was absolutely top-notch—attentive, engaging, and genuinely warm. He went above and beyond to make the night feel special. And then came the moment that completely made it unforgettable—he sang Happy Birthday to me in his native language, and wow… his voice was amazing. It gave the whole dinner a personal, memorable touch that I won’t forget. If you’re staying at Dreams Sapphire, the hibachi experience is a must—but if you get Alfredo, you’ve truly hit the jackpot. 10/10 night.
