Guana Island

Here's my story. Guana Is had been on mine and my husband's radar for years. He suddenly passed away in early 2020 and then covid and the shutdown hit for the next 2 years. My daughter's wedding was planned for early Sept '26. I knew if I didn't plan a vacay by the middle of July I would be caught up in all of her planning details so off I went on Fri 7/17. Of course, I would have loved to stay a week which my husband and I would have done but being solo I had to pay the single supplement minus $100/night of the couples rate so I chose 3 nights and then made plans to venture off to Anegada (another BVI that had been on my radar for years). So yes, I arrived by private transport arranged by the hotel from Trellis Bay to Guana where Colette was waiting for me with a cool cloth and a cool beverage! This is no exaggeration, the sea was the most turquoise I had ever seen, more than Virgin Gorda! I was astonished. My cottage was The Barbados Cottage which was perfect for me, central to the compound! I noticed a few reviewers felt the clubhouse and resort was cliquey. Not my experience. I was invited to join a group for dinner on my first night and I quickly struck up pleasant conversation with other guests. Just a great group of people; some couples young and older and some 2 and 3 generation families; all here to enjoy the beauty and solitude of Guana Island. I'm an explorer, I ventured to reception and introduced myself. I scheduled yoga accompanied by sound bowls in the Garden of Eden with April which was surreal. Eric took me on a hike Sat morning and was kind enough to bring me to the orchard where I sampled a coconut picked right from the tree and a ripened banana-the donkeys like the banana leaves as a treat. Eric is doing amazing work cultivating the huge plot of land! Some past reviewers mentioned there was not always a bartender on site and the mixers were not adequate. Not the case in the four days I was there. During the day the Beach House always had a bartender as did the Clubhouse. The food was flavorful, inventive and plenitful. A huge spread was put out for the Fifa World Cup Final at the Clubhouse that Sunday afternoon while the game played for us. Lots of excitement! I was alone with my thoughts or no thoughts but never lonely! A huge thank you to Capt. Joey, Colette, Layla, esp Sampson and the restaurant crew. And thank you for making me feel comfortable. We will meet again because I plan to return... .

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Guana and had an amazing time. We loved the relaxed atmosphere, the wonderful staff, delicious food and drinks, and our private secluded cottage on North Beach was truly spectacular. Really just everything was perfect for us. We are both very active and went on a different hike on the island every day followed by relaxing on the most beautiful beach we had ever seen. Our 5 night stay was truly perfect, and we will definitely return in the future.

Stayed here 5 nights. This place is really special. The island is stunning and truly feels remote and untouched. The beaches and sunsets are stunning. The vibes are excellent. Everything has a laid-back, retro feeling that makes you feel relaxed. It's more like you're at a family's private island that they've had for generations, rather than a hotel. All of the staff are extremely nice and professional, but they're not breathing down your neck. It's the sort of place that you can just walk behind the bar and grab something out of the fridge. Many of the other guests there have been coming to Guana for decades, and I see why.

I could go on and on gushing with superlatives. To me, the best part was having 840 acres of Caribbean beauty almost completely to ourselves, all the while being catered to our every whim.

Our family loved this resort experience. Wonderfully large room that easily accommodated a family and still provided privacy, excellent food, beautiful grounds and beach, plenty of water sports and hiking, all wrapped up in a peaceful high-end inclusive vacation. This should be your first choice if these factors are a priority for you as they were for us. If you prefer social experience with more people, day/nighttime group activities, music/dancing, or have little kids, this would likely not be my recommendation. We would go back in a hot second!
