We are Vacation club members of sixteen years and have seen ups and downs over that period of time. On our recent visit to SJC there were many more ups and downs this time, especially with the food and service ,which was a significant step up, with Executive Chef James and his staff always available for Feedback. Particular mentions for Omar, Milton and Ozzie for their engagement and determination to make our stay a great one, and the new GM Riaan for his focus on attention to detail and striving for excellence and Engagement. Front desk is an area that requires focus, but on balance it was better than previous visits. For me the Sea weed remains the resorts biggest problem, however the site team work tirelessly to keep it at bay and make the beach's available for use. Despite the ups and downs of St James we will be in two years and look forward to the resort continuing to improve and strive for excellence. Lance H

We have just returned from a 10 day family holiday to St James’ where we had a very relaxing an enjoyable time. Based on our experience, I feel it is worth writing a review to add balance to what, in my opinion, are some very unfair reviews. We have 2 teenagers, one just shy of 17, the second is 14 and we stayed in a 2 bed Villa. Both bedrooms were en-suite; with ours having a king size bed and a bath tub, the kids rooms had twin beds and a shower. Both rooms had A/C and ceiling fans., and the beds were very comfortable. The upstairs provided us with an open plan dining area and lounge, along with a kitchen (again with A/C and ceiling fans). We also had a balcony and patio area. Housekeeping came every other day. With respect to the resort itself, it is looked after very well, we saw gardeners and maintenance teams out refreshing and tidying. There is ongoing refurbishment in 2 of the ocean front accommodation blocks, but there was minimal noise from the work. One of the beach bars is also undergoing maintenance (Mamora beach bar). Given that August is low season for the Caribbean, the performing maintenance now makes a lot of sense, and as mentioned, it didn’t affect our trip at all. Unfortunately the issue of seaweed is a common theme for many islands, and yes, whilst we were staying, Coco’s beach was out of commission because of it, however every day there was a team working to remove it, and by the time we left; they had drastically improved the situation, You could catch the smell if you were waking past at certain times, but on the same note by the time we left, people were using the loungers on the section in front of the beachfront accommodation. We used the Mamora bay beach most days and never had a problem finding loungers. The water is fine, it isn’t the crystal blue sea you may want and which can be found on Coco’s beach, but you can swim and play around in it. We used the main pool and a smaller pool beneath Eleven-11. If I had one (small) criticism; it would be that the resort could probably do with one more pool. There are adult and child, only pools; but if you wanted to go to one together, it was sometimes hard to get a space around the main pool. We used the water sports that are available (paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking and pedallos) . The beach is serviced by a mobile drinks van, ( as the beach bar is currently shut) but if you could also walk around to the beach grill and pick up,a drink if needed. The food is on the whole good. Breakfast is a buffet,:plenty of choice from pastries; fruit;;meats/cheese to cooked options. Lunch is a la carte from either the beach grill or Eleven - 11. On some days, there are also options on the beach: we had paella one day and a bbq another. Evening meals are either themed buffet nights at Docksider ( as name suggests - on the bay by the dock) and the food was, on the whole; pretty good. The meal was often accompanied by a singer, band or a steel band. A la carte options are also available at Coco’s and Picolos (extra cost to your package). There is also a coffee shop where you can pick up sandwiches, pastries and drinks almost 24hours a day. All restaurants are open air (under cover though) so could get a little hot on occasions (especially lunch), but hey it’s the Caribbean! The waiting staff continually refill your glass with iced water, which helps. We made us of the tourist desk and went on the Pink Panther safari, which was an excellent tour, and we also went to stingray city, which was fantastic, Final word goes to the staff, all of whom were friendly and courteous on our dealings with them. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel to other families.

St. James’s Resort in Antigua was amazing! The staff were so friendly and helpful, taking care of everything from excursions to our bags. The rooms are updated and beautiful, the pools are stunning, and the whole vibe is welcoming. We loved dressing up for dinner and trying the different restaurants. The snorkeling trip that leaves right from the resort is a must—great for all ages with fantastic guides. Can’t wait to return!
