Beautiful beach but won't ever go back.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

Just got back from holiday at Dreams, and sad to say I will never go back. Its a 3 star experience. Those 3 stars are for the wonderful staff, beach, pools and entertainment. The hotel is very old and outdated, but clean, and the food is horrible. However, shout out to the Italian restaurant, very good food and service, we ate there twice. I ended up having an upset stomach for 4 of my 7 days. Watched a staff member in the Seaside Grill take dirty glasses off of a table, swirl some water in them and use a napkin to wipe off the rim of glass and put it back out on a table! As well, went to the gym every morning, no AC, it was cooler outside. I did really enjoy the daily water aerobics, staff made it really fun. We did really enjoyed the beautiful beach and loved the International and Mexican night entertainment, they were excellent and beautiful costumes.

Hyatt - Dreams Huatulco Resort and Spa Review

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We have travelled to Huatulco, Mexico since 1994, more than 12 times. We have stayed at the Dream Huatulco hotel when it was formerly run by Royal Maeva, Royal Gala and then when it was rebranded to Dreams by AM Resorts and have never had an issue getting sick. But, now the Hyatt Dreams Huatulco Resort and Spa is running the hotel the past 2 years. And while it is nice to see fresh floral arrangements and a few improvements to the hotel....the food, drinks and other areas have declined. Our current stay at Hyatt Dreams Huatulco was from February 24 to March 3, 2026. We travelled with 2 other couples. These friends booked the Dreams Huatulco hotel because I promoted the previously high standards in location, cleanliness, 7 pools, beachfront, lounge chairs, towel service and very good food served at 5 restaurants on site. Two of us in our party got terribly sick, among at least several more guests we spoke to during our week there. More than likely from the poor food handling and preparation. The staff, especially at buffet and some restaurants DO NOT practice proper hygiene in providing clean glasses, cutlery, utensils etc. Rarely did we see food servers, especially at the buffet area, washing hands while preparing foods, like eggs or omelets or serving foods. Food was not always hot, when it should be and lukewarm when it should be cold. Staff clean table after table with the same dish clothes. We actually saw servers return glasses, while another helper rinsed them in water only and gave the glasses back to be put back on a table. We spent several days, in our rooms trying to overcome nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps. My friend was so ill, that thankfully the hotel had a Doctor available. It cost them $16,000 peso (approximately $1200 Cdn). The Dr. provided the necessary medications to help our friend and others get better in 2 to 3 days. The hotel did provide steamed rice and a plate of steamed vegetables, to our rooms, to compensate our dietary restriction. This is important to note: My party of 6, was informed by two managers on our last day at the hotel that our concerns regarding food preparation and food areas, are taken seriously. IDK!!! He said, food safety is a fundamental pillar for them and they have a third party quality standards that is suppose to guarantee the quality of their products. Our suggestion....get another third party company with much higher food safety standards and staff training on food preparation and handling. Get more dish washers! Rooms are dated but everything worked well in the room. Our balcony had a hot tub, but I would not get into that thing. Prior to Hyatt takeover, the bathrooms had a tray of beautiful and fragrant products; shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body cream, sunscreen, as well as soap bar. Now it is cheap soaps, conditioner in dispensers and a tiny bar of soap. The hotel is easy to get around, especially for older clients, except getting down to the beach area...that would be challenging. Lots of pools, but if you want a lounge chair, pool front, you better get there way before 7 am and stay in the chair. If you go back to your room, other guests will have hotel staff remove your towels and personal belongings, which you will find in lost and find area. If you choose to come down later in the morning, you may not get a lounge chair pool side, or they may not have any more towels (because some folks that have ¨Privileges not only get orange towels, but will have extra set of brown towels too. If you are lucky to get a lounge chair, then they may not have an umbrella, so be sure to bring lots of sunscreen 50 with you. Preferred guests also have a whole section of beachfront that seems to have lots of beachfront chairs and loungers, so they do not need to reserve, but we saw them also have poolside chairs....unattended and that is not right. Maybe the hotel should reinstate towel card system...how about computerized tracking, instead of paper and pencil tracking. Dreams Huatulco needs LOTS more palapas and lounge chairs on the beach to accommodate clients who prefer to be on the beach. This hotel holds some wonderful memories and times spent over 12 years for my family, but we feel Hyatt management as cut so many corners and not focused on cleanliness, good food and its preparation and handling that we will still come to Huatulco, but try Barcelo next time. Not sure I would recommend this hotel any longer and nor do I feel it is a 4 or 5 star. What you will like about this hotel: The staff is very nice! Super nice Try breakfast from Oceana Seaside restaurant, outside with a beautiful view. The Japanese restaurant also very good Nightly entertainment on some evenings is good but short. Usually done by 9:30 pm The Smoothie and Espresso bar is great. They serve ice cream there too. Our favourite entertainer: Ben Indi (@benindimusic ) at poolside from 4 pm to 5 pm twice a week. He is awesome! Infinity pools overlooking Tongalunda Bay....beautiful. I am sorry to say, I wish I had a more favourable review.

2 star trying to be a 5.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Location is Great, Beach is great, Really good snorkeling at the southern edge of the beach by the rocks. Rooms so so. Beds terrible. Not nearly enough pool chairs and who wants to get up at 5 AM while on vacation to save one? That is what you will have to do if you book this resort. My wife and I went with two other couples and all of us got some sort of stomach ailment. Pool missing hundreds of tiles which results in sharp areas and cut feet. Safe food handling techniques need to be taught and enforced. I watched gill cooks put raw chicken on the grill and then immediately serve food with the same tongs. Very limited activities during the day. Average age of the guests is in their seventies.

Great hotel, great service but be up early if you want a chair at the ocean front pools!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff. The chair game is horrendous to sit by the ocean side pools. If you aren’t out there by 5am, you aren’t getting a spot. You can ask for a chair and umbrella and they will bring them to you however I saw. Food was really good. Lots of options. The temperature of the food was mostly like warm but flavours and presentation were really well done! Will be going again for sure!
