UNICO 20N 87W - Riviera Maya

Our experience at UNICO got off to a rocky start, which initially made us question the resort’s five-star reputation. When we arrived, we were surprised to learn that our reserved ocean-view room had been changed to a tropical-view room overlooking the back of the pool's restaurant air conditioner. The hotel staff insisted it still qualified as an ocean-view room, but we felt taken advantage of. Eventually, we were offered an upgrade to a room with an awesome view of the ocean for an extra fee, which helped but didn’t fully resolve the frustration. Booking dinner reservations was also tricky. It was difficult to get a reservation during normal dinner hours, and we were left with limited options at either 5:30 PM or 9:00 PM. While we adjusted, neither time agreed with our stomachs. Our first day left us doubting UNICO’s claim as one of the best resorts. Things improved significantly once we met our personal local host, Amelia Marin. She was exceptional and checked in daily to make sure we were having a good time. Amelia kept us updated daily on resort activities and local excursions, not to mention she helped us with our dinner bookings. Her attentiveness made us feel truly supported and valued. In addition, the resort staff was very friendly, and the food was very good with strong attention to any dietary needs. While the initial impressions were shaky, the staff's service truly redeemed our experience. A huge thanks to Amelia Marin for turning our stay around and making our visit unforgettable.

We have been traveling to Unico 2087 every year since 2020. We always have a magnificent time. This trip was no exception. Israel and Roger were our butlers and they made sure our stay was perfect. All of our meals and excursions were coordinated beautifully. JoAnna and Karen assisted us with our Legendary needs. Thank you, Unico! We'll see you again in November 2026!

This was our first all-inclusive and trip to Mexico and it was spectacular. Never stayed in a five star before, but this sure felt like a five star hotel. The rooms were beautiful, in great condition and easy to get to with lots of elevators and stairs. We got an Alto King Ocean Front (see view in pic) and it was breathtaking. Bubble bath and bath salts with extra towels out by the jacuzzi tub restocked every day an after days at the pool, we would soak in our jacuzzi tub in the cooler evenings. Felt totally private. Quiet, never heard outside noise in our room, and even on the patio you’d hear the ocean and maybe light music during the day from the pool or beach. Truly the room was phenomenal and housekeeping got it back spick and span every day. Food was excellent. As vegetarians (primarily) we thought we might end up having to order the same thing more than once at meals but the options were great. Got the watermelon sashimi, miso soup, baby corn elotes, and veggie pad Thai at Mura house one night. Went to mi Carisa three nights and ordered different salads, apps, and entrees each time. They are very accommodating to allergy requests as well (husband is allergic to tree nuts). They ask before every single food order all week, poolside or otherwise, if there are allergies. 2087 restaurant was a quick and accessible breakfast buffet with great options (10+ types of fruit, 3-5 types of yogurts, 10+ pastries, oatmeal with toppings, omelette bar, breakfast meats, pancakes, French toast, every single day). They flip it into a beautiful steak house every night with white linen table cloths and moodier lighting. Mi Carisa and 2087 both have outdoor seating as well with beautiful views. And truly truly infinite cocktail options at each restaurant and bar with beer and wine staples as well. Sitting poolside was some of the happiest times of my life 😆 chairs available all day long, if you want specific ones getting out around 8am to throw some towels down will get you the ones you want. There are 2 pools in the middle of the pool area called the 2087 pool. One has all the activities- water aerobics, aqua spin, volleyball, floating poker, floating beer pong, swim up bar. On Saturdays there’s a “pool party” with a DJ there playing great music. The second pool is right next to it and is more for just kind of wading, sitting, mingling with drinks and was the Goldilocks for us. Could hear music and all the fun stuff at the other pool 20 ft away, but could fall asleep in my chair pretty easily. We only went to the Escondida/ Quiet pool that is on the other side of the building once and it looked almost too peaceful for our taste, really light music and a bar, very quiet if that’s what you like. But like I said, there’s a great option that’s somewhere between sitting next to an aerobics class and beer pong and sitting in silence that we liked a lot. The people here are phenomenal. The service is what made our week here so great. The setting is beautiful but having such friendly, accessible, and knowledgable people working there was what made it. Our local host Zuleima was readily available as a concierge of sorts. So friendly. Never disruptive or interrupting, but always easy to message if you had questions or concerns. The 2 guys who lead water spin and water aerobics were hilarious and made the activities fun for anybody— had some 60+ year old men and women and had some 20 year old men and women in their classes and everyone is laughing and playing. Can be a workout but can also just be so fun. Please try it they’re hilarious. Took a salsa lesson in the night club with David that was the same way. Our poolside servers were kind, attentive, readily available, and speedy. Took <5 minutes to have a drink in hand when you wanted one. Took <20 minutes to get food and there are probably 30 options ranging from tacos, empanadas, pizza, salads, burgers, chicken fingers, guacamole, ceviche available poolside. And the food is just as delicious as it is anywhere else here. The empanadas came piping hot, had obviously just been hand made, not sitting around under a warmer. Our servers were there multiple days and got to know us a little. Loved Osalde, Freddy, Marcos, Luis. Oh and coffee shop was great. Went down around 8 every morning and got a latte, just 1-3 people in line in front of me and they were speedy. Grab and go pastries (we loved the conchas) there and smoothies, juice, tea. We will be back as soon as we can be. I’m afraid that once I’ve tried Unico, I could never be convinced to try anywhere else. Why risk experiencing anything less than this beautiful vacation? I would recommend it to anyone I know.

Our long-time college friends recently met at UNICO 20 87 in Riviera Maya to celebrate retirement, and it turned out to be one of the best trips we have ever taken together. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the staff at UNICO was there to make sure that we could relax, reconnect, watch IU win the Natty and celebrate a big life milestone. The property is very impressive, but what really made the trip special were the moments we shared: by the pool, on the beach, long conversations over awesome meals and of course plenty of laughter. We want to give a huge thank you to Isral and Roger, who truly became a part of our celebration. They didn't just provide GREAT service and made us feel cared for. Thank you for your million-dollar smile Isral! We also want to than beautiful and talented Amelia, you are so very talented and hardworking! We wish you the best in ALL of your careers. Also a shout out to Diego. Thank you for all of your help and your warm smile. UNICO 20 87 is the perfect place for a getaway with friends, or just couple's getaway. We are looking forward to our next visit.

We visited UNICO 2087 in January for a site inspection ahead of our wedding. We had a great time and felt so welcomed by the whole Unicorn staff and wedding team, as well as our host, Eduardo! Eduardo was incredibly knowledgeable and very responsive to all of our questions and needs! We can’t wait to go back with our family and friends to share UNICO 2087 with them!
