UNICO 20N 87W - Riviera Maya

Lovely resort tucked in lust vegetation, well kept, even though the buildings are showing some age nothing major, being open around 9 years now. The place is clean, landscaping is maintained nicely, staff is super friendly, smiling and speaking whenever passing by. There are 5 restaurants, French, Steak House, Mexican, Asian and Italian( which is our favorite ) food is very good at all, service is very good all, breakfast you have a choice of buffet with a selection of Mexican dishes to go with bacon, sausages, eggs, omelettes, cheeses, bread, just a lot of choices and good for a buffet or you can choose À la carte at the Italian restaurant, very good, just not as fast as the buffet. Pools are nice, water temps ranged from 80-86 degrees on our stay, plenty of chairs, swim up bars at 2 pools, good food for lunch, brick oven pizza is good also. Staff: Joshua the bell hop remembered us from our past visit in November, very personable, pleasant, polite, fun to talk to. Luca Martinez at the pool is a fabulous server, she made sure we had what we needed, kept a good check on us, no requests were to big, always smiling, just a lovely person. Irving the manger at the Italian restaurant took great care of us, started outside one evening but it got very windy and he moved us inside with no problem. He is very visible, as you can see him helping out wherever a need arises, very personable and thankful when we visit. Our Butlers Roger and Alejandro were great, had all our dinner reservations in hand before arriving, took care of any request we had, nothing ever seemed big or a bother, you could tell that they truly liked helping out. They were great at holding conversations, learning about us and then us learning about them. This was our 7th trip and they treat you like family. We will be back soon.

We have recently returned from 10 nights to Unico travelling from the UK for our honeymoon. This resort came recommended by a colleague of mine who works in luxury travel and we booked via British Airways Holiday package (I travel a fair bit for work so used avios towards) Rooms We had an Alcoba Swim Up Pool and we were location in the furthest block away from the reception, which was nearer to the wedding venue. We got the sunrise here, along with the noise of the sea as we were close to the beach. The pool was sunny until approx 3pm so made good use of it. Only ever loud if there was a wedding on, but not loud enough to disturb us. Room was well equipped, room service was always before 10am and as early risers this suited us. Turndown service was a lovely extra. Room was always well cleaned. We had a couple problems with our minibar not being restocked with specific products but our local host was always quick to sort this. Shower is fantastic and the bed is extremely comfortable! Hammocks on terrace are comfortable, wish there were comfortable chairs and a table to sit out rather than the sofa. Spa The Spa is incredible. We had a couples massage for 80 minutes and it was blissful. We chose our scents and relaxed the whole time. The service in there was incredible and I would recommend. Service We received nothing but incredible service across the 10 nights. Alam our local host was absolutely fantastic. The communication via WhatsApp was handy as we could just send a quick message request and he would sort it for us very quickly. Alam is one of the nicest staff members I have met, he made us feel like family and made our honeymoon extra special with some special touches in the room and even a bottle of fizz! Another fantastic member was our favourite pool waitor, Uriel. Everyday he saw us he would greet us with a warm friendly welcome, and when we did sit by another pool he would always say hello when he saw us. He would regularly remember our drink order and would recommend cocktails to me as I made my way through the menu!! He would make us smile everyday, and truly a hard worker! Service in all restaurants was incredible, and we only experienced one dinner where we were left waiting for a while and food wasn't cleared for some time, but it wasn't enough to alter our perspective of the trip! Food & Drink We really enjoyed the offering at Unico. The differing restaurant options were great. I found breakfast a bit of a struggle, I mostly just had a coffee from the Coffee shop with a muffin (the muffins are INCREDIBLE!! we had them daily) As I found breakfast quite repetitive and not to my personal taste. The poolside menu was easy to order from and we chose this most days as we wanted to enjoy being by the pool, the pizzas are fantastic!! I felt like I had become a taco by the end of the week, but they were so good. Our favourite restaurant was the French, we found the food here incredible and the atmosphere was great. My only gripe is having to book reservations before you even arrive, we felt this took some of the relaxation and spontaneity out of our holiday as we were always planning what time we were going to dinner. We really enjoyed playing chess nightly in the bar, you can ask concierge for the pieces. We would do this before dinner as we found at times the atmosphere could be a bit rowdy past 9pm if there was a wedding group in town, I am glad they had fun but we wanted relaxation on our honeymoon, so would grab a drink and relax on our balcony. Entertainment We felt it lacked some entertainment in the evenings. They would have a musician in the bar every other night, but usually at 8pm when dinner reservations were happening so we often missed it. The pool party/pool DJ felt a bit excessive having it every other day, but we would usually sit at the other pool so it wasn't as loud. Negative Feedback: The lack of menus in the bars or use of QR code. Yes I do spend a lot of time on my phone, but I like to look at an actual menu especially for cocktails, I found it hard to know what they could or couldn't make as they actually don't have a full bar menu. Same as a couple of the dinner nights they asked us to scan a QR code, it's hard to stare in your phone at a menu! No straws!! I hadn't seen any reviews stating no straws, I wish I had known to take my own, so don't make the same mistake as me!! Legendary Club Sales Do not get sucked in to them trying to sell you what is a timeshare. I don't mind them asking you, but also two people from Europe are probably not your demographic to sell to, they felt quite pushy at times, and as two people on our honeymoon it felt somewhat inappropriate. We found it funny in the moment, but I can see how that would irritate a lot of people. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to couples. Would we return again? Probably not but not for Unico specific reasons, more that we like to try new things!

Alexander & Alejandro are the best ever! They made our stay beyond what we had expected. We will back because of them and their service.

Just came back from our honeymoon at Unico & it was nothing short of perfect! The service, staff, food & drinks are unmatched. The restaurants are gorgeous & the entire resort is beautiful & impeccably clean. Shout out to Rosa, who changed our dinner reservations so we could spend additional time at the pool. She also made sure we had our special room service breakfast in honor of our honeymoon. Javier at Cueva Siete set the tone on the first night we were there & he was wonderful! Loved the Mayan Coffee presentation he did for us. My wife absolutely loved the massages at Esencia Spa. The live DJ next to the pool really makes a difference & time spent at the pool was great. All staff members & servers are friendly & greatly appreciated. Lastly, Fernando from JJ Studio Photography accommodated our time frame & gave us beautiful photos from this unforgettable trip. Overall, this place is amazing & gave us a truly unforgettable experience!

This place was fantastic! We particularly enjoyed the food, which was excellent at every restaurant. The drinks were decent but not exceptional. Our host, Mendoza, made our stay even more special by providing us with roses and champagne.
