Hilton Vallarta Riviera

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 17 hours ago

The Hilton Vallarta Riviera impressed us from the moment we arrived. Our 4th floor room provided a beautiful view from our balcony, and a very comfortable room. A few small maintenance issues in our room were fixed immediately. It was very easy to book reservations in each of the restaurants, and the food was very good. The service was great in both the buffet and the à la carte restaurants. The lobby is beautiful, and was a great place to gather for a drink. The staff were very attentive and provided friendly & fast service. It would be nice to have some early evening entertainment available in the spacious lobby. Some of the employees that made our stay extra special were our morning buffet team of Rosario, Pedro, and Esmeralda. The afternoon lobby bar team of Keila, Daniel, Jose (this team needs an automated dishwasher!). All of the poolside wait staff are excellent, especially Eduardo. Everyone on staff that we encountered were great, these people just made a lasting impression.

Average hotel but great pool service.

I’d give it 3.5 if I could give half points. Rooms: Decent size, balcony is wonderful, the glass bathroom is a bit much and there is no hand shower (rain shower head only). Cleanliness is okay, could be better but it’s acceptable. The mini bar was hit and miss, some days it was restocked and others it was untouched. Just very inconsistent. Food: There are a variety of restaurants and a relatively large buffet. But there is a fairly weird rotation schedule for closures that isn’t highlighted and if your depending on the website alone the information can also be inconsistent at times so really do some solid meal planning when you get here. You can only make a reservation 24 hours ahead of time and the cut of is 4:30 pm so that got us a couple of times but that’s on us. So just make sure you sort out your plan in advance and stay on it. The selection at the buffet was decent, we are picky eaters so breakfast was always are largest meal of the day. The portions in the restaurants are SMALL, you can order more though but we didn’t learn that until later. I didn’t see a ton of GF items but they ask over and over if there are any allergies so they are definitely mindful of that. The room service takes a long time and it’s a small menu but works in a pinch. NOTE: this resort does NOT let you take food from the restaurants. Half eaten hamburger your kid will finish later, NOPE, sick friend in the room you want to take a piece of toast to, NOPE. Too full and want to take dessert to go NOPE. And they are very very strict about it. A bit over the top in my opinion. Pools: Adult pool doesn’t have a great entry point if you aren’t fit or have great knees you may have difficulty with it. It’s not a large pool but it’s decent and has a nice edge facing the ocean and the standard swim up bar. The family pool is much larger and the poolside service is on point. Definitely an area of strength for this hotel. Thank you Alfredo you made our week! The pool could be a bit deeper in spots but the long ocean facing edge is lovely. The ocean is swimmable here when weather cooperates. Getting in and out takes a bit of practice as the bottom gets soft quickly but it’s manageable when the waves aren’t too strong. The rocks they have out front make a nice area to swim. Another point goes to the fact they have a lifeguard on duty. I have never seen that at a resort before and it was nice to see. The cabanas are wonderful for a charge of $80USD a day, it’s a nice treat. And yes you have to play the towel chair pool game but it doesn’t start until 8:00 am. Entertainment is average, the standard “same performers different themes” but overall fine. The pool day time activities were more distracting than enjoyable but it wouldn’t be an all inclusive without “winner winner chicken dinner.” The highlight for us was not provided by the hotel, the whales. We are here the first week of February for ten days and saw them every day but one. So thank you to the whales!! You’ll need to get transportation if you want to go out but town isn’t far but I don’t think it’s a walkable distance. Overall if you’re looking for an average hotel with an amazing view and great pool service this will do you just fine. Bring your sunscreen it’s hot! Safe travels.

Maxal and Cocomar are the best

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I visited the Hilton Puerto Vallarta with my husband and children 9 and 13 . The food and food service was awesome. We particularly loved Cocomar and Maxal - shout out to Exael at Maxal and his friend who makes fresh guacamole at your table. Go here for a special Margherita - a new flavour each and every day …. The Hibiscus one is to die for and I don’t like Margheritas that much !! Cocomar by day is sensational the fish tacos are fresh and light. In other areas the resort is excellent Natalia the Cabana reservation girl - who will also organise spa trips. Gabriella and Victoria at the Eforea Spa. Darius the Gym guy - I’m sure I spelt his name wrong - always full or energy and amazing aqua training skills. Karen scott the visiting Palates instructor and Jorge and the Enclave staff for amazing omelette every morning . We will be back and bring more family next time.

We won't be back

This was our first time staying at Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort, but unfortunately I think it will also be our last. First, I’d like to say, the staff are wonderful. Everyone is friendly and go out of there way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I always leave tips to show appreciation for their hard work. Also, for an all-inclusive resort, their food, I would say, is above average. If you stay there, I would recommend the Mexican and Asian fusion restaurants. Quick tip: make an appointment if you want to eat at a certain restaurant. They’ll turn you away if they’re fully booked. The rooms are okay. You can tell they have been recently renovated. The only issues I have with the rooms are: 1) the AC thermostat does not adjust to ANY temperature you set it to. It’s either on or off, it will not auto shut off if you set it to your desired temperature. 2) The bathrooms make you feel like you’re in a fish bowl. There are glass walls everywhere, separating the shower and toilet. And the annoyingly bright “night light” that you can’t turn off. The bigger issue I have with this resort is summed up with one word: “Layout”. The layout of this hotel is terrible, both the beach/pool areas and the hotel buildings. The beach itself is very narrow, and there are only two stairs that lead down to the actual beach. There are no beach chairs on the actual beach. All of the chairs and cabanas are all crammed around the pools and in whatever space they can find. There’s no personal quiet space, and barely any space to walk around. There are people around you ALL the time. We found it hard to relax in such settings. The resort has 3 buildings, the north tower, the south tower, and the middle/main tower. The hotel buildings had the same “feel”, everything crammed and no space to move. You feel this once you arrive in the lobby, which has an open bar, seating area/balcony area, a café, and the reception counters. A very crowded and noisy(at times) area. If you’re staying in the north tower, make sure they don’t give you a room on the 4th floor, because in order for guests to get to the elevators in the north tower from the lobby, they have to walk through a long corridor, which is basically where the rooms are. This can get really noisy if you can imagine. The restaurants and lounges are located throughout the 3 towers, which is really confusing & inconvenient. We never really felt comfortable during our time there, so we won’t be back unfortunately.
