Anita. Wendy, Fabian and Adiel are great with activities! We especially loved Zumba and diving for chips.

I had the best time at the resort. It was total paradise. However, I want to write to say that Carlos Daniel Cuevas Catalan has the best customer service skills that I’ve ever seen, and he went above and beyond for me - even after I checked out. I lost something very important to me, and he helped with contacting housekeeping and facilitating its safe return, even though that was not in his job responsibilities. It is people like Carlos that made my stay go from great to AMAZING. Thank you, Carlos!

To All Amex Members, I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this resort. I booked this property for my family and me during a wedding weekend. The resort itself is beautiful, the atmosphere, food, and overall aesthetic are wonderful. However, the service and handling of our stay were deeply troubling. As an Amex member, I understand that upgrades are offered based on availability. I booked a specific room category after carefully researching the property. Upon arrival late at night, I was given the exact room I originally booked, not an upgrade, yet the way it was presented felt misleading, as though it had been “positioned” as one. Had they simply communicated that no upgrades were available, I would have completely understood. The following morning, my assigned butler texted to ask how everything was. I honestly mentioned the room situation. He said he would “take care of it,” but I never heard back. Communication throughout the stay was inconsistent and unprofessional. Additionally, I had a $150 spa credit that, at checkout, staff acted as though they could not locate. It seemed disorganized and unnecessarily complicated to have it applied. Knowing it was Super Bowl weekend and that my family was still staying at the resort, I proactively communicated with the front desk at checkout. Although standard checkout was 12 PM and they declined a late checkout, I explained that I would vacate the room by 11:30 AM, have the bellman collect our luggage, and that I would remain on property for a few more hours since my rental car was on-site and I would be leaving after the game. I was told everything was all-inclusive and that I was welcome to stay and enjoy the property. During that time, we spent additional money at the spa, I paid extra for surfing (which was great, by the way), and we enjoyed our last day with family who were still checked in. However, after the football game, the situation escalated dramatically. As we were preparing to leave, members of our party were stopped from exiting the property. Our Uber was dismissed. We were confronted in a hostile manner and told we owed thousands of dollars, approximately $1,300 per person, for remaining on the property for a few hours after checkout. This was shocking. We had clearly communicated our plans at checkout and were told we could remain on property. To then be stopped, threatened with police involvement, and pressured for large payments felt unethical and intimidating, especially being visitors from another country. The tone and approach were aggressive and unprofessional. When I explained that I had received permission to remain on property and had even spent additional money after checkout, the manager initially threatened to “pull camera footage” and open an investigation. When I agreed to that investigation, his tone shifted and he ultimately let me leave without further escalation. That alone speaks volumes. My family ended up paying thousands of dollars under pressure simply to avoid further confrontation. We felt uncomfortable, embarrassed, and frankly intimidated. This resort is physically beautiful, but the way this situation was handled was unacceptable. Transparency, communication, and professionalism were severely lacking. Sadly, despite the beautiful resort, I would never return, and I strongly encourage other travelers, especially Amex members, to be cautious and to document every conversation clearly if staying here. Very disappointed. I firmly believe this situation reflects fraudulent and unethical treatment of paying guests.

Beautiful place and outstanding service. Every restaurant had delicious food with great atmosphere as well. The room service was excellent and very comfortable. It’s just a long way to a lot of excursions if you book with AmStar, plus you have to find your own transportation to meeting points with additional charges from taxi’s that are expensive and never consistent. Adds up! $$$$

I wish I could write two separate reviews for our vacation, but I will try to do the best I can with this one. On the positive side the food here was absolutely amazing. Service was fantastic. Our two best experiences at this property was at the Nebbiolo restaurant where we were treated like royalty by Sarah, the manager chef Rico and servers Santiago and Aurora. The food quality was amazing and the attention to detail was spot on. They truly made us feel like family. The second experience was the sixth floor adults only market café. There’s a small balcony or terrace that looks out onto the ocean and once again the food there was amazing with choices, including crêpes, omelettes and Mexican specialties along with standard breakfast fares. Unfortunately, that’s where the excellent experience ends. We were given a room overlooking the ocean with a small balcony which was beautiful but could never enjoy using it as there was always either loud dance type music being played at the pool or a loud corporate event, wedding, or activity in the main common area. The only music played in this resort was beatbox type dance music, in some areas louder than others, but always the same . It started out a bit, annoying but tolerable due to the nice people we’ve met and the staff, but as our stay continued it honestly got to a point where my wife and I couldn’t wait to go home. Sadly, we will not return to this resort under the current conditions. Not to say someone reading this review might find that situation tolerable even preferable. There are two sides to this resort one that is adults only the other that caters to families. We spent more time on the family side as the music was less annoying. We also spent more time walking the beach, which was wonderful, then on the resort during the afternoons. It felt like the resort catered more to corporate events, weddings, and the small number of younger people then to the 40 to 70 age crowd. We are UVC members and frequent resorts such as Maroma and Akumal. Those places always have areas to relax and unwind if you so choose. They also have party areas that we enjoy as well. We honestly feel more stressed getting ready to go home tomorrow than we did when we left to come here.
