Reviews for Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Booked through AmEx, felt misled

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We booked this trip via the American Express Travel portal, where the listing title clearly labeled the resort as “Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa – All-Inclusive.” That title reasonably implies that surf and spa amenities are part of the core experience, not expensive extras. Instead, we’ve discovered that both the surf activities and spa facilities require significant up-charges ($25/hr for a surfboard, $55/hr for the spa facilities). These were not clearly disclosed prior to booking through the AmEx travel portal. What was most disappointing, however, is that every single experience at this property came with an attempt to upsell us. The first hour of our arrival was spent being pitched upgrades. For a resort labeled “all-inclusive,” this feels like a bait-and-switch — not the experience we expect from the Hyatt brand. Even the core inclusions of food and beverage fell short. At the beach club, we waited 30 minutes just to receive a single piña colada and a Diet Coke. That level of service only adds to the sense that the value of the base offering has been stripped in order to push guests toward paid upgrades. We booked through Amex because we trust that properties listed there on The Hotel Collection — and especially those under the Hyatt umbrella — are vetted and held to a standard. This experience simply does not meet that standard.

Excellent girls trip at Secrets Bahia Mita

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We came as a friend group and had an excellent time. We especially enjoyed the 8th floor pool and bar. Sheyla and Vanessa were great as concierge to answer our questions and give us cool towels daily. Dario, Julio, Benito and Alejandro were great bartenders and servers for us. On the 6th floor Marieta pool area Benito was very friendly and even found us after one of us left some belongings behind. In the preferred club 6th floor bar, Omar was excellent at crafting his drinks and putting a personal touch. Tenoch was friendly and helpful there as well. We did a large group reservation for the spa. Daniela was our attendant through the hydrotherapy and worked so hard to make our visit special. At Himitsu, Armando was a funny and friendly teppinyaki chef. This was a great resort to visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Preferred club is worth it at this resort!

Amazing stay

Sheyla, Vanessa, Julio, Armando, Dario, Fransisco and Benito took such good care of us. Made the experience so amazing. Always checking on us and going above and beyond to make our stay special. Food, drinks and atmosphere on the 8th floor was top notch.

A Wonderful Relaxing Weekend at Secrets

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We loved the resort and all of its amenities. The rooms are well appointed and there are plenty of pools and restaurants to enjoy. My boyfriend and I stayed at Secrets and had a wonderful time. Even though it was just the two of us this resort is a great option for families and groups. We went over to the Dreams side of the resort for the water park which has some really fun slides and had a lot of fun. If you're staying at Secrets, you can absolutely stick to the restaurants and pools that are only for adults which is a totally different vibe. There are plenty of activities and entertainment to keep you busy. On the cons side, this beach isn't very swimmable near the resort and the drinks were hit or miss depending on the bar. Loved all the restaurants with the exception of the Japanese restaurant. The spa was absolutely wonderful.

Beautiful property, incredible staff — but overall disappointing experience in many ways

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Our stay was overall great and relaxing in some ways. The property itself is beautiful, and the staff is absolutely amazing — they are truly one of the main reasons we enjoy these kinds of resorts. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and approachable. Maria was the absolute best — that woman was everywhere! She was so great and responsive, and truly our favorite. Just the kindest woman; we were amazed that we saw her wherever we went. Roberto was also fantastic. He was hands-down the best bartender — we went to him every time we wanted a good drink, and he always delivered. He was so kind and made us feel so welcomed every time. The spa was truly the best experience of our entire stay. We absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was so relaxing and beautiful, and the service was outstanding. The fact that they were able to accommodate all six of us at the same time was exceptional and made it extra special. Carmen (I think that was her name), who helped us book everything, was great and so responsive. We left feeling completely refreshed and pampered — highly recommend making time for the spa! The gym was absolutely gorgeous — spacious, modern, and spotless, with top-notch equipment for both cardio and strength training. We loved how bright and inviting it was, making working out on vacation actually enjoyable. However, we really disliked that everyone was recording themselves everywhere. It felt very invasive to our workouts since we didn’t want to be in anyone’s videos, and they were taking up large parts of the gym. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell short, especially considering we booked Preferred Club. There were no dedicated Preferred restaurants, which was frustrating, and the buffet got old very quickly — plus it was so crowded that we kept asking ourselves why we even booked Preferred in the first place. The pools were the most disappointing part of our stay, and they’re usually a highlight for us. They were very shallow (around 2 feet deep), completely exposed to the blazing sun, and became so hot that they stopped being refreshing. The only shade was at the swim-up bar, but that area was loud and crowded. The rooftop pools were even worse — exposed and unbearably hot by the afternoon. The drinks were also disappointing. The “top-shelf” alcohol didn’t feel top-shelf at all, and the drinks were clearly watered down and weak — so what’s the point? On top of that, poolside food was only available between 1:30 and 3:30, with limited options and not-so-great snacks. Where are the fish tacos and chicken tenders?! Our butler, Jessica, was kind and did all she could, but we had a butler at the Haven in Cancun who was much more responsive and checked in with us daily. Overall, while we enjoyed some aspects of our stay — especially the wonderful staff, spa, and gym — the lack of a true adults-only experience, the disappointing Preferred amenities, weak drinks, and uncomfortable pool setups really took away from the trip. We’ve stayed at many Hyatt properties across Mexico, but this was our least favorite. We won’t be returning to this property and will be looking elsewhere for future stays.
