Tucked away on gently sloping, tropical beachfront on the northwest coast of the island, Calabash Cove is one of a few luxury boutique hotels on St. Lucia. Nestled in the sheltered bay of Bonaire Estate, Calabash Cove is perched on a hillside sloping gently towards the Caribbean Sea, where cool ocean breezes provide a wonderful respite and the turquoise sea is offset by the vibrant green of tropical vegetation and views of Walcott Island. A secluded beach sheltered by a nearby coral reef provides the perfect place to rest, reflect and dream. The resort has been designed with great care to complement and exist in harmony with the beauty of its natural surroundings. The main buildings of the hotel, such as the lobby, restaurant, bar, sanctuary, and infinity pool with waterfall offer stunning ocean views, with the Watersedge Cottages amidst lush vegetation perfectly situated to view nightly sunsets.

Calabash Cove is a beautiful place. We were disappointed in the food and there is only one restaurant at the resort. Your options are just that unless you want to get a taxi ($25) each way to the nearest place to eat / shop. Another issue was the receptacles in the room- there are none at the bathroom sink! So when you want to use a hair dryer or curling iron you must try to plug them behind the night stand and hope and pray the cord is long enough! There are receptacles behind each night stand, but we had a difficult time getting some to work. Overall everyone was pleasant and very helpful and it is a nice place.

Calabash Cove offers a beautiful location along with the most attentive, friendly and caring staff. The level of service from all areas is excellent! The beach is serene with calm waters perfect for kayaking or swimming. The grounds are amazing with attention to detail and beauty. Your room will always be very clean, with cold air-conditioning and comfortable amenities. Windsong meals are delicious and well portioned, whether you enjoy them with the scenery of the restaurant or if you prefer them on the porch of your cottage. C Bar never disappoints as well! The pool is large with lots of seating available, and a swim up bar that becomes a favorite for socializing! Thank you to everyone at Calabash, your diligence in welcoming and caring for your guests is appreciated!

Excellent stay! The staff were so nice and accommodating. Concierge (Kerzier) was especially helpful. She asked what we would like to do for excursions and arranged everything. We didn’t have to think about it at all, it was so smooth. Loved our beachfront cottage! The atmosphere was so quiet and peaceful. Food was delicious too!

Don't bother looking at the rest, go for the Best! We spent 1 week on B&B at Calabash Cove for our Wedding Anniversary in May. What makes this place outstanding - 5 stars plus in our opinion, are the people who work at the hotel. The Cleaners who kept everything immaculate and the Gardeners who tended to the landscaping - It's breathtakingly beautiful! The Waiters and Waitresses who were fabulous. Always smiling and attentive, sociable without being intrusive. The food is next level. My husband and I had the best steak we've ever had on our anniversary night meal for 2. It's a set menu in a romantic setting. Absolutely worth the dollar, it's a must! Not only was the dining room food outstanding but the Room Service too. We loved is the fact that the food came Hot! Sometimes Room Service is an after thought. Not at Calabash Cove...Yum! Yes the property has steps but that gives for Amazing views. And yes it could do with a little updating. We weren't bothered by either. A couple of mentions... JD fantastic work ethic, you really did make us smile! Dwain on the piano, so many thanks for playing our first dance music. It touches like that that will stay with us forever!! Thank you to Reception for providing us a Courtesy room on our last day. Calabash Cove feels personal. A boutique hotel in an idyllic Cove. It's quieter than other resorts ( we ventured out and saw for ourselves) It's not mainstream. It has a Character and a Charm all of its own. Love and Thanks

Summation: If In search of a boutique orientation resort with a prevailing atmosphere of quiet enjoyment, perfect option. All lodging units have water views. With under 30 units, even at full occupancy feels private. Perfect for honeymoons, relaxation and if oriented upscale dining i.e. no buffets or similar. If your desire’s orient towards partying, activities, non-stop socializing, multiple dining venues, active bar scene and related many better options. See full review as follows: Airport to Resort: Once you deplane and exit Immigrations and customs there are multiple information kiosks for the many resorts in St Lucia, Calabash is approx. middle of the group (and yes its busy when a larger plane arrives or multiples). I would suggest booking private transport via The Calabash concierge as it is seamless. Also I suggest a private car as others have mentioned roads are challenging i.e. hills, switchbacks, driving is on the right and signals are few. A private car I believe would be more comfortable versus a larger van based on center of gravity and handling. Options via the Calabash concierge include helicopter transport and scheduled water-taxi service. For the drive from the airport (UVH) assume 1.5 hrs. and keep camera available as some beautiful scenery. Upon arrival at the resort past the guarded/gated entry, the lobby is open-air taking advantage of the exceptional St Lucia climate. Reception is via a sit-down desk, no formal check-in or lines of guests keeping within the boutique orientation, very personalized and of course the concierge is aware of your ETA per the transport. Once checked in depending on lodging type there are units in the main building including Swim-Up Jr. Suites and additional Sunset View Jr. Suites in adjacent yet detached multi-unit buildings. The utmost luxury is the Waters Edge Cottages. These ate ½ duplex i.e. one common wall, units offering a private deck and private plunge pool. If your budget allows and there is availability, go ahead and splurge! Our Waters Edge Cottage #6 was literally above the resort’s beach access. The beach is small, intimate and private. The cottages with their Balinese design, #6 truly reminded me of when we stayed in Banyan Tree Bintan Island, Indonesia the difference being a Caribbean Sea view versus the South China Sea. All cottages have a wraparound deck with its own as mentioned private plunge pool. On the deck there is a day bed, a table with chairs, an Adirondack chair and a private hammock. Even though we were literally steps from the beach we spent most of our time on our private deck as it is secluded; perfect for reading, napping and of course the plunge pool to cool off if needed. The main interior room is the living room with folding doors that open onto the deck for a true indoor/outdoor orientation. The living room is small but perfect for vacation with a sofa, chairs, table, ample selection of books, smart flat-screen TV (yes you can log into your Netflix), as well as a wet bar which has a coffee/tea station refilled daily including a Lavazza pod machine, a tea kettle (former British Colony), glasses, cups and selection of coffee, tea, sweeteners and a mini-refrigerator which can be stocked upon request. Beyond the glass doors is the bedroom. Expansive with a massive king bed and one of the softest mattresses I have ever experienced. There is also a jetted 2px tub in the corner, an armoire for clothing as well as a dresser. The writing desk/chair and bed side-tables have reading lamps. Other reviews have commented the furnishings seem dated. I would agrees to a point, however as I am there for an authentic vacation and not necessarily there for the newest contemporary Aloft or similar design orientation. The furnishings are absolutely comfortable and functional. Of note, the bedroom has a ceiling fan and mini-split a/c. The living room only has a ceiling fan as the open doors and breezes keep the space temperate. The bathroom is adjacent/accessible via the bedroom and unique, Two vanities and a separate water closet. From the bathroom one accesses the truly open-air shower i.e. no ceiling, open to the elements and accessible from the bathroom as well as the deck (louvered doors on deck-side insure privacy). Truly decadent and romantic. The outdoor shower does have lighting as well. How the unit is designed it is very private no matter where in the resort you are positioned. Rooms were serviced daily with service being unobtrusive. As mentioned in addition to restocking coffee/tea, the resort provides reusable metal water bottles as well. Dining: Dining is somewhat limited to the one on-site restaurant which is an expansive open-air orientation steps below the main reception with open-views, not a bad table to be found. No need for reservations; again the boutique orientation i.e. Calabash knows the number of guests and plan accordingly. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of note, there is a dress-code which is in my opinion welcoming; during day no bathing suits, at night, no open-toes shoes for men i.e. flip-flops and requested collared shirts i.e. no t-shirts, polo's and short-sleeved button-downs seemed to be the norm. While the dress-code may not be to everyone’s liking, there is a sense of civility without being formal. Most men wore the mentioned polo shirts or a button-down with walking/Bermuda shorts or similar. Women usually wore light casual dresses or blouses and skirts. At breakfast it is a more casual orientation, while no bathing suits, most men wore t-shirts and open shoes. Same at lunch. Of note the pool bar offers food service and of course can dine in swim suits and similar attire. And yes there is a swim-up bar. Food: All menus (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are a la carte, not a buffet in sight. The breakfast menu has all the traditional favorites both North American and UK. Every meal is custom to the guest, thus no issues concerning substitutions and diners are asked about any allergies and related. Breakfast like dinner is a leisurely affair, served until 10A. With the views and breezes a great way to stat the morning. To be honest we started our mornings on our private deck w/ coffee from the Lavazza machine (offers espresso, mild roast and decaf) and catching up on news (via iPads) and related (strong wireless throughout the resort) and then headed to breakfast. As we ate breakfast late, we usually skipped lunch or shared small bites at the pool. Dinner: The dinner menu is the same each night with a nice selection of offerings however there is also a page of daily specials. Good diversity of items. While I am a carnivore, the vegetarian options were delicious as desired to enjoy a healthier vacation! Service, friendly and professional. Overall the food regardless of meal service was very good. Again, if your desires orient to buffet or more institutional offerings i.e. chaffing dishes and unlimited dessert options you may be disappointed. However if you orient to more a la’ carte orientation and upmarket dining habits, you will not be disappointed. Concerning pricing, if not on the All-Inclusive; not inexpensive, not expensive, moderate prices i.e dinner for two i.e. 3-courses and drinks including tax and gratuity about $100+/- USD. We usually shared dessert and concerning alcohol my personal tastes run to local beers i.e. $6USD, wine between $10-$14 and mixed top-shelf cocktails $12-16. Be sure to sample their infused rum at the bar with caution it is strong! Before and after dinner common to see guests sitting by the bar or off the main lobby or similar enjoying a pre or post meal cocktail. With the views and breezes it is a luxury being able to sit and relax and just chill or converse and related. Nightly there is background entertainment yet it's truly background, more ambiance versus interactive. Spa: The resort has a full-service spa which caters not only to guests but also locals and others and thus books up quickly. We enjoyed a body scrub as an option to try the spa out and experience the use of local balms and so forth. There is also full “beauty” options including, hair, make-up, manicures and pedicures as known for their weddings. Also an excellent selection of services oriented to men. Gym: Adjacent to the spa is the workout area. Decently equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, a bike and a small selection of dumbbells and a bench. There are also yoga mats, blocks and towels and a water cooler. While I did work out daily only one time did, I see anyone else using the workout facilities. Water Sports: There is a nice selection of non-motorized options including kayaks and paddle-boards available. I did see some using the kayaks and paddle boards. The main pool is long enough to enjoy laps. Few were at the pool as I believe most gravitate to the beach which has ample shaded areas and cocktails/food can be delivered to the beach. Grounds: As is common in St Lucia the resort is built on a hillside so be prepared to tackle some stairs as there are no elevators. If stairs are an issue consider the lodging units in the main building due to their proximity to the pool, dining and spa being adjacent. With that mentioned the landscaping is beautiful and lush. Except for the main building, all other parts of the resort are on walkways with slight inclines with subdued lighting in the evenings. While I would not consider the resort a truly accessible property by ADA standards, it is not the most challenging either. However, if mobility is an issues, please consider as there are no elevators or golf carts. Sundry Retail: There is a small sundry store with basics including a few rum options, tourist oriented souvenirs, toiletries including sun block and related. However, due to size of resort limited inventory i.e. no soft drinks, ice cream or similar, all of which are available via dining or at the bar or via room service. The resort overall within my personal comfort genre i.e. causal and laid-back with a boutique orientation. I am one for starting my morning off with the newspaper and ending the day with a good book. The on-site concierge offers a wealth of available activities on and around the island as well as on the water. Thus if you wish to explore many, many options available. Basically you can make your visit as exciting or relaxing as you wish.
