This was our second visit to this resort we were here about ten years ago and it was vastly different. The service then was much better than it was this time. Let me start with upon arrival our room was not ready and we had to wait 3 hours before the room was ready. Then we went into the room the bed was the most uncomfortable bed I’d ever experienced. When we went to take a shower we had no hot water. The ceiling fan was so noisy and after dinner when we got back to our room there were ants everywhere. We told our butler and had maintenance come and spray them. The next night the ants were back and again they were everywhere. Again the sprayed. But the next night again the ants were back but so much worse they covered the walls, the floors and the ceiling. This time they put us in another room while they took care of it but we were back in our room the next day this time we had no water. They said it would be taken care of the next day. This was the worse stay at Sandals we’ve ever experienced. Our butler told us the manager would be contacting us she called us apologizing for the inconvenience but honestly I felt no empathy from her at all she said they’d give us some points to make up for it but that was all they could do. I will never come back to this resort again.

We had a great time here. We love the beach- it was beautiful. Every one of the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had a minor problem with our room and it was addressed immediately. Bobby who did the nature walk was a lot of fun. Charmantha the server at the Italian restaurant was extremely friendly and did a great job. We had sushi almost every day and the sushi chefs were always entertaining and attentive and the sushi was top notch. The entire property was spotlessly clean. We’re coming back next year.

We visited Sandals Grande Antigua after our usual Sandals (Southcoast Jamaica) was closed due to the hurricane. This was our first non Jamaica Sandals experience and our 8th trip to Sandals. The weather for our stay was outstanding - the temperature never varied outside 25-27 C the entire 9 days we were on the island. The grounds are well kept and very beautiful. We also liked the fact that the resort is large enough you can get all your steps in just by doing regular activities. The beach is also one of the nicest we have ever seen. You can swim off the beach and the water is basically free of seaweed (if you look hard you can find some but it is not a problem for swimming). As other reviews mentioned there are vendors on the beach but they are not aggressive and accept a polite no thanks. We were only approached 3-4 times in 9 days so it is really not much of an issue. The beach is public and there are lots of folks coming in for the day from cruise ships. Again, this never bothered us and everyone was very polite. We found all the staff to be welcoming, helpful and pleasant. Our favorite eatery was definitely Soy - the sushi is awesome! Book that in advance as it is super popular (for good reason). A big shout out to our two main butlers Tiffany and Tanya - they have super positive attitudes and were always helpful. Overall we loved the resort and it is now a close second (maybe tied) in our eyes with Southcoast (our long time favourite ). The only downside for us is the limited plane schedule to Antigua - that may make coming back harder in future to fit to our work schedules but maybe the plane schedules will change.
