Known as the “Garden Island of Fiji”, Taveuni Island, home of Tides Reach Resort, is a rare beach and mountain paradise for nature lovers. This abundant area has remained relatively untouched by logging, so its rainforests are dense. Orchids and vibrant birds thrive. The absence of the predatorial mongoose on Taveuni Island means greater biodiversity. Waterfalls crash around you, irrigating the thick carpets of vegetation that enjoy the fertile volcanic soil. And then there’s the beach, where coral reefs still beckon. The Tides Reach Resort fits in without detracting from the natural surroundings, making this a chic sort of escapist vacation for the barefoot-and-glamorous crowd that appreciates a waterfall swim by day, thatched-roof bungalow by night.

We wanted a quiet, non-fussy resort and we found a Gem!! We had one of the Deluxe suites on the beach - it was fabulous. Large veranda where I even fell asleep after lunch one day. Excellent food, all meals included in the room price. We were wowed by the tastes and gorgeous presentations of each meal. But the real value of this property is the people who work there. I have never cried leaving a vacation spot but this time I did. Niu, Manasa, Irene and others have become our friends for life. We could just talk and chat away the day with them if they didn’t have other things to do! The beach just steps from our room was clean and wonderful. We went swimming everyday just right there, seeing beautiful fish and corals. The resort made available to us any outing or adventure we could think of. This property is about a 30 min boat ride from the Rainbow Reef, considered by many to be the best dive spot in the world. We only went snorkeling there but that was amazing enough. This resort does not have its own spa - but they provided a masseuse if you wanted one and she was very talented. Perfect after the 15 hours of travel it took us to get there! And there was never any pressure to buy their products or anything. To summarize, if you want a low key resort stay right on the beach that may not have all the fancy amenities but makes you feel like family, then this is your place!

We had such a wonderful time at Tides Reach. The villa was beautiful (it was massive) and the perfect place to relax whether on the covered deck or out on the beach loungers. The food was fresh and delicious and there were plenty of activities to enjoy between times whether a guided trip or just swimming and snorkeling off the beach. The extra touches just added to the experience such as the delicious homemade cookies (that were stocked up for us once we quickly finished the first lot!!) and the bottle of water placed by the bed each night. We celebrated a big anniversary and the staff made it such a special experience that it is one we will never forget. What made the stay though were the amazing staff who we can't thank enough for making it such a wonderful and memorable stay. They are the reason we would go back.

Lovely boutique resort but hugely overpriced for what you get (this is compared to other Fijian resorts we’ve visited). We stayed in a standard beach villa with our young daughter for 7 nights. The room was large with a spectacular view out to sea. Your laundry is done every day which is great and the (payable) activities we did good fun. The resort is beautifully kept and the staff very friendly but for us the price point wasn't justifiable. Yes, you are right on the beach with almost exclusive use, but it wasn't the most alluring stretch to swim and the snorkelling off the beach wasn't good. The food included is good but simple. Starter was usually a small salad (eg carrot ribbons on their own) or soup. Pudding invariably included vanilla ice cream which became a little tedious. The hotel was missing a few little extra touches to warrant the price tag. Very small things that added up like in the rooms there wasn't any sort of vanity kit or little extras like a Nespresso machine, in fact no coffee at all, just some tea bags but no milk. There was a minbar with a small jar of cookies (not replaced throughout the week) but no other snacking food. There certainly wasn’t a ‘private butler’ as advertised on the website and I don’t think a remote control existed for the television (not that we wanted to use it). The service was a little haphazard. There were seemingly lots of staff but no staff, we'd no idea who the manager was. There wasn’t a phone in the room or any way of contacting reception other than finding someone in person. You were never offered anything, such as a drink when arriving for lunch or dinner, you always had to ask. It would've been a nice touch to have a bit of music in the dining area and offer some nuts/canapes to have with a pre-dinner drink. Cocktails were $25 dollars each so we opted for beer and wine (very limited offering). There seemed to be a problem with keeping much in stock and they had to go to the shop (despite us drinking the same every night). That said, when we did ask for something nothing was too much trouble. The resort was very quiet when we were there and we felt it was slightly coasting along. It is worth noting our feedback would be very different if the cost of the stay wasn’t so high!

We had this gorgeous place to ourselves the first two of our three nights, but I imagine it always feels serene and private. There are only four beachfront villas, plus the four new additions up the hill across the road. We stayed in one of the huge "smaller" beachfront villas, lovingly decorated with hand-crafted art pieces. Although there wasn't enough hot water to fill the enormous tub, the showers (inside and out) were fine. Irene served us some of the best food we had during our two and a half week visit to Fiji. Whether it was the creative soups, such as the beautifully seasoned puree of carrot and celery, or the papaya muffins, the chicken on skewers with pineapple rice, the grilled fish, garlic shrimp, or stir-fried vegetables, we were thrilled with the artfully presented gourmet cuisine. Maria, George, Irene, and all the other staff members we met were friendly, attentive, and helpful. When they learned we were celebrating our 30th anniversary, they arranged a special beachfront dinner for us.

This resort is amazing--the location, layout/design, inclusive amenities, the dive shop steps away, the FOOD (incredible), service, and mostly, the STAFF. My husband, 21-year-old daughter, and I shared a suite. It was clean, comfortable, spacious, and well designed. We really enjoyed the flourishes of fresh flowers in the morning and evening. We were treated so kindly and taken such great care of by a wonderful and welcoming team of people--Floyd, Irene, Fabi, Liza, Vere, Mela, and Nui. They made sure we had everything we needed--French press coffee, freshly baked treats, and eggs plus more in the morning, gourmet lunches and dinners with dessert, and even delicious sandwiches and fresh fruit when we were spending the day out hiking and birdwatching. My daughter and I don't consume dairy but that wasn't a problem. We were very well fed! The dive shop team--Ma, Divemaster Bose, and Captain Joel were also great. They were pros and we enjoyed some amazing diving. It's unanimous that Tides Reach and Taveuni are at the top of our list of vacations.
