Overview: nice scenery with mountain views close to city, decent food some variety lacking quality servers, great gym and spa, lots of fitness classes and outdoor activities, limited wellness health lectures and night activities, nice size remodeled hotel rooms casita-style Food - Pros - menu changes few times a week so some variety, action station daily if want quick meal, managers good walking around try to resolve issues since servers are not doing it themselves, good quality for high volume, cafe serves alternative and quick snacks but not quicker meals still takes 30minutes Cons - not enough variety if staying a week as rotate only a few things in each category twice a week, most of the vegetables salads appetizers desserts same daily, desserts terrible tasteless bland dense and very limited options besides ice cream and cookies (need new pastry chef, pies/cake options), not enough daily specials, takes 30+ minutes for entree for lunch or dinner if they get it right, most servers only take orders dont check-in or come back to table so if need something else or they get something wrong have to flag people down and waiting another 10-15minutes - most servers/hosts very young and feel like they were annoyed to serve you, took 5-10min to get seated and another 5-10min for server to come by, need to get seated 30min before want to eat or get appetizer or action station (if come during holiday/busy time) Rooms/property - Pros - nice remodeled rooms, large size if get executive with living area, all rooms redone, corner rooms away from main buildings quiet, requested tub and got it although very limited Cons - mattress so soft/sunken had back pain whole week, groundskeepers dont clean any seating areas after rain so started to bring own towel to wipe off if want to sit after rain in any common outside areas, no hammocks Classes/Teachers - Pros - good yoga basic fitness classes, good variety of wellness/spiritual practitioners Cons - very few wellness health lectures right after meals when cannot easily workout, no one to talk to if teacher no-shows or late, very few short hikes/outdoor excursions even Level 1 hike/bike ride 3.5-4hrs, night activities mostly during dinner time or hour after dinner weird timing scheduling, need more variety of night activities and some night lectures, even basic group intro classes like pilates and pickleball cost money Spa/Gym Pros - gym huge 5 large rooms tons of cardio machines strength equip & trainers seemed knowledgable although didnt use, huge spa two big jacuzzis multiple quiet seating areas sauna/steam lots showers/changing areas, well-staffed, experienced practitioners, nice size indoor heated pool for winter Cons - need sound system in indoor heated pool to play spa music

Beautiful setting and great food, but disappointing response to an incident

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Canyon Ranch Tucson has a lot to love. The setting is stunning, the rooms are comfortable and serene, and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. We especially appreciated the engaging and friendly restaurant staff, and the spa services were excellent, with a wide variety of treatments and skilled providers. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by a few unprofessional interactions with staff, including an incident that resulted in a member of our group being injured. The most concerning part was not the incident itself, but how poorly it was handled in the moment. Staff did not follow their own policies or act with the urgency or care the situation required. Management did not follow up until the next day. It cast a shadow over an otherwise lovely trip. Even so, Canyon Ranch remains a truly special place. The atmosphere, the focus on wellness, and the sense of relaxation and renewal it offers are unique. However, consistency in staff professionalism and guest care is an area that really needs attention.

Rooms have motel vibes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Not sure who is paying these rates but it’s definitely not worth it. I’ve stayed in roadside motels that have better quality/aesthetics than these rooms. The landscaping around my room was filled with weeds and dirt. Spiderwebs all over the windows and huge cracks in the doors. Ordered room service, hour and half later I call and turns out they forgot to input the order and kitchen is now closed. This is definitely not a 5 star resort or even remotely close to a Michelin 3 key property. Not worth the money. Go to Miraval instead and actually get quality product/service.

No frequent customer discount

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

Last summer prices per night were 900. Now I was quoted 1548 a night. I’ve been a customer since 2003. Or sure what’s going on there

A memorable experience at Canyon Ranch Tucson

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

Canyon Ranch Tucson is a truly remarkable experience. Some of the complaints here are insane. 1) The food is incredible from morning to night: Balanced portions, beautiful plating, fresh, easy to load up on protein. Very attentive to allergies. Recipes available on the web. 2) the gym is monstrous, with helpful trainers and classes that kick the arse! ✅ 3) the spa has all the circuit (sauna, steam, cold plunge) and a nice relaxation room (I found that on my last day, it was kinda hidden) . All my treatments were incredible. Recommend the hand/ foot/scalp massage, the oil treatment and the desert ritual. 4) the room: plenty of space. The most comfortable mattress and pillows I’ve ever used. Huge shower. 5) classes taught by knowledgeable folks. I’m fairly with it regarding the topics I chose but I still learned a lot and am glad I got to schedule them. 6) I am sun avoidant (haha go figure living in AZ) and did the early morning and nighttime walks at Sabino Canyon and around the massive property. Saw plenty of animals with my fun and knowledgeable guides! 7) the staff. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there and were very warm and inviting. So many remembered my name which was quite nice. 8) the guests. I made some new friends during my stay which reinforced the feeling of connection and joy. Other than having to listen to a few guests complain a little too loudly about nonsense (not having bagels and smoked salmon at breakfast, having 1st class tickets cancelled…), everyone was pleasant and kind. I cannot wait to return and maybe bring a friend to share the experience. And do the night bingo which apparently is a big hit! Tips: —Review the week’s activity list early and consider what interests you —use the app to create your own itinerary (the ones that cost extra are easy to overlook). —Book spa appts on the app around the talks/sessions —be open to new things/classes/ activities as you talk to others —they have sun umbrellas to use to walk around with (I brought my own) —they gift you a very nice tote bag and stainless steel water bottle at check in
