Our seventh time at MLA did not disappoint! I even noticed some improvements since our last stay, including entertainment and food (in my opinion). If you want a real vacation, with a phenomenal beach, this is the place to be. Truthfully, we couldn’t even find time to leave the resort because of how much we enjoyed the hotel and beach. Of course, there are always some things that can be improved. From the other guests I’ve spoken to, a lack of AC in some dining spaces was challenging to navigate in such heat. Ensuring that real eggs are available at the buffet, I believe, should be a must. Though they are understandable, since such changes cost resources and time and it’s not so easy. The hotel staff do their absolute best to ensure your trip is of upmost quality. They take concerns seriously and are there to help always. Despite the dire times in Cuba, the resort puts the experience of the guests first. We look forward to booking again in the future and cannot wait!

(I had to delete and repost as Trip Advisor does not allow you to edit your review). Just returned from my stay at Melia Las Americas. Location: 10/15 minute drive to downtown. Will cost you about $15 one way. If you are looking for a taxi, call Leonardo at 54763236. He's got at 1954 Chevrolet. Either call him via WhatsApp or have the concierge guys outside or reception call him. Beach: Amazing! Unbeatable! The beach alone is a 5 star! Plenty of chairs and palapas. If you like to walk the beach, the stretch is not that long but long enough. Beach bar service: The ladies at the beach bar were less than happy to be there. Not hospitable. Not friendly at all. When they ran out of mint for the mojitos, it was simply "Mojito, no" rather than walking to one of the other bars to replenish. The gentlemen at the beach bar made the best pina coladas!!! The restaurant closest to the beach was closed the entire time - which means that you'd have to go to the main buffet to eat lunch. This is an inconvenience. Buffet: Meh. Lack of variety. I mean, there is always something to eat but you may have to circle around a couple of times. The buffet is actually quite small. There is a variety of fish, chicken, beef, pork on the grill every day. Freshly cut up veggies, soups, fresh fruits, desserts, pastas, veggies. It's Cuba. Please realize that you are visiting a communist country and no, you will not find Starbucks or Burger King. The staff working behind the food stations (the grill, cheese and deli station) were very miserable (dinner time). The servers were friendly. Slow, but friendly. Eggs – no fresh eggs. They use a powdered mix. Property: The property is clean. For that, they get an A+++++. There is also a shopping mall just a 5 minute walk away. Entertainment: Not entertaining at all. They had a DJ play, some live singers, dancers. Safety: Some of my beauty products were stolen from my room. LOCK EVERYTHING UP! I wasn’t the only one…… The Level: I met quite a few guests from the Level as they came to sit at the non level beach (which is not a problem). Each one said that the upgrade for the Level was not worth it. Room: I had an older room. A/C was crap. No hot water for a few days. Mold on the ceiling. They don't care. Period. Water pressure in shower was terrible. Shampoo, Body Wash and a bar of soap provided. If you are not going to use them as such, use them to wash your clothes. There is a table, 2 chairs, an ashtray and a clothes rack on the balcony. Your water bottle in your mini fridge is replenished daily. I had 2 single beds in my room. Not very comfy but bearable. TV in room worked - sometimes. The headboard was rotted which provided a home for “unwanted guests”. WiFi: It sucked. No other way of putting it. I picked up a stronger signal from every other hotel nearby. Whether on the beach, in your room, lobby….very unstable. Reception: Elizabeth, you are the best!!!!! Service: If you tip, you get good service. Late Check Out: This is a mystery. A bunch of guests were talking about it and everybody got a different answer from reception. Typically it is $15/$20 per hour. Electricity: If you are travelling from Canada, you will need a converter as the voltage at this hotel is 220 (make sure that you don’t leave them out in your room. Lock them up when not using them). The Currency: When it comes to buying something on the resort, I felt like I was being ripped off every time. Everything is priced in USD however you can still use Canadian Dollars or EURO. They will do an exchange rate calculation. Bus from airport to hotel upon arrival: When on the bus from the airport to hotel, they will try to sell you the local currency. NOBODY wants it. Don't bother no matter what the guy on the bus says. They are ripping off tourists. The rate is crappy and this is for their own benefit – not for the tourists. If you are from Canada, you can tip using loonies and toonies. Same with EURO coins. Should you choose to purchase the local currency, they have a currency exchange desk at the hotel. By the way, the rate of exchange on the bus was .75 cents, while the hotel was offering .87 cents. If you are travelling with Sunwing/WestJet, the representative was NEVER there and they don't post the pick up times for the airport (like the other travel companies do). Thank you David at the Golf Desk who helped me to find out what time the airport bus pickup time was. Lighters & Smoking: If you are a smoker or plan on purchasing a cigar, bring your own lighter. They are nearly impossible to find. None at the hotel. None in the shops. Once at the airport going home, there is no smoking in the airport (unless your purchase the VIP Lounge). Lighters will be taken away at security so - pack your lighters in your luggage or before checking in at the airport, enjoy your smoke break and your lighter, then throw your lighter into your luggage. I packed my lighter and brought matches for the airport. You will thank you me when you arrive home waiting for your taxi at the airport. Sunblock: Please bring sunblock from home. The sunblock in the hotel shop is $32 USD and crappy. Baggage Fee: If you pre-paid for your check in luggage at the time of booking your vacation, please bring a copy of the receipt with you. At the airport, (going home), they try to scam tourists out of cash saying that they didn’t pay. If this happens and you have proof, ask to speak to the manager. The story changes reallllllllllllllllllllly quickly. PSA: Be mindful of other guests. Please leave your blue tooth speakers in your room and don't bring them to the beach or lobby bar. Nobody wants to hear your music (no offense). Please do not bring glassware to the beach. Just don't. The paper cups work just as well. These are things that the security on the beach should enforce. We had a few incidences of each. The Hotel industry is all about hospitality. Rather than making accommodations, everything was "This is not Canada or This is not Germany" (depending on where the guest was from). The staff has to realize that each guest has paid for all of the amenities and fairly, we are expecting them. This hotel is also marked as a 4.5 star, so the expectations are high. I think that the hotel manager should make more of an effort to address the repeated deficiencies and perhaps mingle with guests rather than having to hear about it on TripAdvisor. Lastly, I have just been notified of a “customer service office”. This feature should be communicated to each and every guest upon check-in. This too may help improve the service level experience for the guests. Guests may also request a meeting with the Head of Quality or the General Manager. Keep this in mind, should you require either. Hopefully, it will be better than the staff just shrugging their shoulders and using the “this is Cuba” excuse. Safe and happy travels!

It’s been a great experience overall! Most of the staff are welcoming and attentive, the hotel itself looks very well maintained. The beach is just stunning! There are some bars with drinks spread around the hotel area and young coconuts that one can get cut at the beach. We stayed at the classic ocean view rooms and it’s been cleaned every day (as well as they’ve changed fresh towels and bedding) The food was overall good , maybe not too many options at the main dining area, but the La Arcada restaurant food choices and quality were amazing as well as theirs staff! 😊

My daughter was there from July 9-16.(Room 3309) She had wonderful time but upon arrival at home she realized her little jewelry bag with a Prada necklace and little gold earrings is missing from inside her cosmetics bag. Her friend who was in a different room is also missing her little jewelry bag that had rings and bracelets. Very disappointing. I've been to Cuba many times and this is the first time something like this has happened.
