Belmond Las Casitas

We (two couples) stayed three nights at Las Casitas during our visit to Colca Canyon, which was part of a larger touring trip around Peru. We had a luxury touring company organize the trip, but we specifically picked Las Casitas based on excellent online reviews and because the rooms had private outdoor plunge pools. We had Casita Valley View rooms. The first descriptor that comes to mind is “gorgeous”: the land and the gardens at Las Casitas are totally gorgeous, the views from the resort’s walking paths are gorgeous, and of course Colca Canyon is beyond gorgeous. (We loved Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, but Colca Canyon was the highlight of our trip.) The resort’s grounds have little tables and seating areas tucked away in garden niches, and there are pools and running water weaving throughout the property. The tucked-away resort is quiet, peaceful and nourishing: it very much reminded the four of us of Dar Ahlam in Morocco, one of our very favorite places ever. We loved, loved, loved the private hot springs-fed plunge pools. It was luxurious and so relaxing to soak in one after returning from a tour or early in the morning in the chilly air. What a pleasure! Our spacious room was really nice. The bed was a little harder than what we’re used to at home, but we slept really well. The shower had great temperature and water pressure (we didn’t try the outdoor shower) although the sinks’ water temp took a bit to heat up. The casitas have fireplaces which we did not use as the room temperature in May was still fine, although the bathroom was a bit colder (they had a space heater in the bathroom to help.) At night as part of turndown service, they had the most adorable cozy sheep hot water bottles warming the bed (available at the gift shop and yes as Minnesotans we totally bought some to take home.) The luscious-smelling toiletries were lovely. We thought the breakfasts were excellent: extensive offerings at the buffet and a host of delicious, nourishing made-to-order items which included everything from any kind of eggs you could imagine (we loved the traditional Andean eggs in tomato sauce) to a greens and maca smoothie bowl. We had three dinners at the resort because, after touring all day, we just wanted to relax at the bar with cocktails and noshies and then walk twenty feet to dinner in the restaurant. The a la carte dinner menu was also quite large: you could get anything from a club sandwich and a vegetable pizza to lomo saltado and ceviche. We thought our dinners were fine, perhaps not excellent (and you could definitely skip the mediocre desserts), although obviously we thought it was tasty enough to eat there for three nights! As a side note, the property has extensive vegetable gardens you can walk around; these provide a lot of the restaurant's delicious seasonal veg. We thought the staff were all super friendly and helpful, and we had some really interesting conversations about various facets of Peru with the manager. We were so busy with our scheduled touring that we couldn’t take full advantage of all the activities that the resort has to offer; we would’ve loved to do a horseback riding tour, for example, although we did catch a short demonstration by Ballerin the dancing horse and his trainer before dinner one night. While there are horses and an adult llama and alpaca chilling around the resort, we can’t finish our review without mentioning the most adorable part of our stay: the trio of beyond-cute spunky baby alpacas wandering around that you can hang with and, if you get lucky with your timing, bottle feed. So. Cute. We absolutely loved Las Casitas and would highly recommend this property for an exceptional stay in one of the most beautiful places in Peru.

19 villas or casitas in A beautiful location We arrived at the same time as a group occupying 16 of those 19 villas and the hotel didn’t manage the situation well for the rest of us. We had lunch in the restaurant where staff struggled with English and after our meal we were taken to the room without a tour of the property. My questions about the property were met with vague information and a push for the spa treatments. I noticed the group had lunch in a specially set up banquet by the main pool. At dinner We had to fit around the big groups meal times and sat on tiny tables in dark corners by the fireplace or behind a pillar, while staff were busier setting up the big banquett in the centre of the restaurant at the same time . I needed my phone torch to read the menu and felt more like something that needed to get done and out of the way rather than a valued guest. I had a query that I put both in the app chat and an email provided in the app shortly after arrival as the staff seemed so busy but I received no reply that day. At all. Our villa was beautiful as is the property but we had not much sunlight by our plunge pool - the main pool was too busy with the group. the mini bar was stocked with high sugar items but no wine or wine glasses. Reception not manned between 10pm and 5:30 After a series of fantastic experiences with Belmond in Peru this all felt pretty poor. I’m sure people arriving at other times will have a different experience but given the premium nature of the brand I’m surprised by this experience and my confidence in the brand is shaken

Wonderful resort that allowed us a couple of days to relax on our 4 week trip to Peru. Highly recommended.

We had a 2 night stay at Las Casitas and it was very special. The rooms were beautiful with plenty of space and we loved the hot tub. The setting was so peaceful with wonderful grounds. Staff were wonderful, as was the food.

Having stayed exclusively in five-star properties throughout our journey, I can confidently say that Las Casitas is unparalleled. It has easily become my favorite place to stay in the world. The property is expansive, pristine, and breathtakingly gorgeous. Our casita was the most spacious and beautifully appointed room of our entire trip, striking the perfect balance between high-end luxury and a cozy, rustic lodge. Coming back to a real wood-burning fire lit by the attentive staff was a nightly highlight. What sets this property apart is the profound sense of peace and the enchanting connection to nature. The dining experience is stellar, supported by on-site greenhouses and beehives that you can view while walking the beautiful trails with canyon and river views at the back of the property. By far, the most magical element was the animals. Feeding the baby alpacas three times a day—often as the only guest there—was a joyful, unforgettable experience. The horses and chickens roaming the grounds only add to the estate's pastoral charm. For the ultimate experience, do not miss a couples massage. Our treatment room featured its own fireplace and private jacuzzi, but the ultimate fairytale touch was the white horse grazing right outside the glass wall during our session. I was genuinely moved to tears by the pure beauty and lightness I felt here. I dream of returning for a month just to disconnect, heal, and soak in this paradise.
