Thank you to all at Azura, a naturally beautiful lodge, on a remote Indian Ocean Island, very close to VILANCULOS (10 MIN HELICOPTER RIDE) . The astounding colours are everywhere, the sky, the sea, the beach and and villas. With the therapeutic, balmy air, it is so easy to slip off into a dream world, snoozing at any opportunity. When the energy arises, snorkling resembles another world. No amount of colour, sea life and warm sea can beat the experience I had. An hour of true beauty, tranquility and feeling so safe (with Carlito at our side). Besides a moray eel, a sting ray, a black tipped reef shark, a hawksbill turtle and Giant Clams, we saw fish of every species, size and colour . Being fed fresh fish, seafood and delicious food three times a day, meant a few exercise sessions were in order. A long walk along the beach, in either direction (at least a 4 km walk each way), a private pool to exercise in, the sea, Kayaks and Sup Boards, or a gym mat and weights in the villa. Of course a compulsory visit was made to the Spa, which included an ice cold stone massage. The highlight of our 4 day trip was an island tour which included going to the Benguerra School. It is right in the middle of the small island, walking distance for all children. What a joy to be in the middle of nowhere, beach-sand roads, surrounded only by beauty and quiet and the very attentive staff. Thank you Azura. from Angela

This one of the best places we have stayed globally.

We had an incredibly disappointing time here. I will summarise the main issues: - Very dated rooms/villas for the price. Bathrooms have not been updated in a very long time. - Main issue to be aware of is that this place is incredibly tidal. We were unable to swim at our villa for 8 hours a day. There's nothing else to do. The sea is OK. We've been to multiple places that are much much nicer. - Also be aware the beach that your villa is on is public. The levels of poverty in Mozambique are extreme. Locals are walking up and down in front of your villa constantly. They are bathing in the water. We felt unsafe at night due to the villa locking system being so poor. We got heckled as we walked up the beach. There are plastic sheets as homes, about 50 metres from the villa. It just does not feel right. - The so-called butler service does not work as the wifi does not work in the villa. - Food was inedible most evenings. Breakfast was nice but the dinners were not. All meals in the same restaurant becomes boring very quickly. - They put on a "romantic" dinner for us one night which was like something from the past. It was in an air-conditioned room with no windows, some of the tackiest plastic decorations I have seen, my husband spat the food out onto his plate - the quality is awful. - Very odd atmosphere between the manager & rest of the staff which was palpable. Power issue. - Incredibly overpriced activities (400 USD per couple for a boat ride for a couple of hours, some snorkelling and the same lunch that is included if you stay on the island). - Sunloungers were so uncomfortable we could not use them. - No space around the private pools to actually put sunlounger. - Nothing at all to do on the island. There is nowhere else to go. Be aware of that. We organised to go to another hotel for lunch. The resort had the same stale, dead atmosphere but the management staff were much friendlier. - Management staff at Azura make out that everything you ask is a hassle. We asked to go to the other Azura Marlin Beach for lunch (simply for something to do) and we were met with a response like we were asking for something impossible. - The bar/resort is always dead, no atmosphere. Most people are in bed by 9pm every night. Pro's: - Helicopter ride is fun. - Bar staff are lovely (Antonio). We were so shocked and disappointed by the quality for the amount we paid. Our travel agent ended up refunding us for a portion of this because it was so bad. I would not recommend.

Simply the most magic place! wonderful decor, incredible attention to detail. friendly locals that really love what they do, for them it's not a job but the bigger picture of pleasing and providing an excellent service. they value the help of the lodge in advancing the island's inhabitants. everything was top notch, from the rooms, butler service, quality of the food and drinks, lovely cocktails, experiences provided, fishing, snorkelling, diving and and and. thank you team Azura for providing our family with the holiday of a lifetime :-) until we can come back we are sending you more guests!

We were spoilt rotten by Olivia and her team! Our host Mino really looked after us, George produced magic in the kitchen and Alex and Josh made deep sea fishing an experience worth repeating.,Also tx to Lorenzo and Xavier for their efforts at the picnic experience- all in all- highly recommended!
