Historical and Lovely, But Careworn

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We enjoyed our stay and loved its proximity to Stratford and all things Shakespeare as well as being on the northern edge of the Cotswolds and the many villages and towns of that singular region. Our room was small but comfortable, located in a former barn on the property, which was originally built in the early 17th century. Unfortunately, the property is not maintained to typical Tribute Hotel standards and looks a bit careworn. We saw cobwebs in the rafters, dead insects on the windowsills, and dusty glassware and collector's pieces on the shelves. We were also visiting during an unprecented drought, as the area had not had appreciable rain for some eight weeks, so everything was uncharacteristically brown and dry--not the property's fault, obviously, but it did detract from the overall ambience.

Disappointing Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Unfortunately, my stay at Billesley Manor fell well below expectations, particularly given the standard I would expect from a hotel of this type. My room was noticeably dusty, with cobwebs present, and the carpet was marked and looked in need of attention. I have photographs showing the condition of the room. I appreciate that Billesley Manor is an old, historic building and therefore accept that air conditioning may not be practical. However, the two small desk fans provided as an alternative rattled when running, which made them difficult to use comfortably, particularly at night. The most frustrating part of my stay was the late checkout. I had specifically booked and arranged a late checkout, yet I was disturbed twice. On one occasion, housekeeping actually entered my room despite me shouting out to let them know that I was still inside. As a solo guest, I found this particularly intrusive and uncomfortable. Given that the late checkout had been booked in advance, I would have expected this to have been clearly communicated to housekeeping. I can appreciate some of the limitations that come with staying in a historic property, but cleanliness, privacy and communication between hotel staff are basic expectations. Sadly, on this occasion, Billesley Manor did not meet them.

Country house hotel tranquil stay

Relaxing stay outside of Stratford. Plenty of parking and outside seating. Very helpful and friendly bar staff. Room upgrade for one of our rooms to enable rooms to be next to each other. Comfortable king size beds. Very peaceful. Decent pool.

Extremely disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Extremely disappointed with the organisation of events from this hotel. I booked a post registry office wedding reception celebration in May of this year for this August. Several calls and emails were exchanged and confirmation received. At 5pm ….3 days before the wedding … I had a missed call and an email to say that due to another wedding taking place they were cancelling our booking. It seems that the fact two wedding celebrations had been booked at the same time had been overlooked. A very big oversight given the correspondence since our booking. They made no suggestion of how they could accommodate this other than for my son and his wife to change out of their wedding attire and to dispense with any wedding decor!! This is really poor customer service, and just a generally very hurtful way to treat people. To say nothing of the stress and time wasted for myself with a wedding imminent. We had booked Billesley for a number of reasons and to find something that filled our requirements at such short notice was extremely stressful. They did suggest an alternative hotel but unfortunately that did not appeal due to its negative reviews. I feel that the way the events are organised and booked is clearly extremely poor. I would certainly avoid this hotel should I be looking to book another event. Very disappointed in Billesley Manor.

We spent 4 glorious November days in the English countryside near Stratford Upon Avon in the Billesley Manor. It was everything and more than we expected. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted and sent to our spacious manor house room overlooking an English garden. Each morning the English breakfast was delicious. The Billesley Manor's location was perfect for our exploration of England and we would recommend it highly.
