With great expectations there is great disappointment. We stayed in the presidential suite which was huge but not very good. Carpets stained and old. Furniture was very large, dark and old. No air conditioning, few windows open, the shower was unusable and the wooden toilet seat was skeevy. On the other hand dinner was very good, the desk people and staff were incredibly helpful and Michael Foley our breakfast barista was fantastic. A nice property but way below standards for the hype and price

The island is beautiful & has stunning scenery. We saw wallabys, a dear, a badger & 2 peacocks. The ferry ride over only took a few minutes & it added to the charm. We stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge which was very spacous with 4 bathrooms & 2 balconies. It was lovely apart from the curtains which were filthy dirty & walls could do with a wash. The house cost €420 for 1 night mid week & breakfast not included. The breakfast charge is €28 per person which I feel is extremely expensive & not worth it.

It certainly didn't meet our expectations. The room was small and in need of upgrading. The small bar has a very poor selection of both beers and drinks. The bar staff were suffering from an ill-gotten belief that they were special!!. An American lady asked for an Irish Coffee; she said, "I have come a very long way for this." He said no. Need I say more. The restaurant food was average at best and certainly not worth the prices asked. The only shining star was the Italian maître d' named Antonio. This hotel is really a three-star with poor facilities, staff who need retraining, and a castle that needs a good clean, and don't leave a copy of your credit card behind reception.

A ferry takes you to your enchanting destination, 16th century castle. Beautiful manicured gardens meet you, the welcome inviting. We have stayed here a few times over the years and it's consistently excellent. The staff very friendly and effecient, the rooms spotless and the food 5 star in the Fitzgerald restaurant, with a wide array on offer coupled with friendly service. The breakfast is buffet style and standard excellent with plenty of choice to suit every need. It's an amazing venue for whatever type of social event requested and highly recommended.

This hotel is in a charming location and is an interesting historical building. The interiors of the public rooms need refreshing - tired decorations, worn carpets, broken window panes. It looks as if there is inadequate investment in maintaining it. Bedroom: the mattress needed replacing as did the stained carpet. The room was stuffy on arrival and hadn't been aired. Generally dark interior and uninviting. The dinner experience was good but I would expect a hotel of this standard to serve breakfast, not a help yourself buffet arrangement. The tennis courts are so dilapidated that they need complete replacement. Overall not worth the money and in serious need of sprucing up all round.

"My most recent trip was to Waterford Castle Golf & Country Resort in Ireland. I couldn't possibly say enough about this luxurious castle. The accommodations were outstanding as was the entire hotel staff. Each and every person catered to our every whim. Access to the island was made incredibly easy and enjoyable. The staff was always friendly and anxious to do whatever was required to make our stay perfect.
