About the Hotel
We are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings. Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

A fabulous getaway
Mount Lofty House is an absolute gem. Just 30 minutes from the city of Adelaide, but you feel like you're in a different land. The Day Spa is divine, the food in the Hardy's Verandah Restaurant fabulous, the welcome tour interesting and informative and my room was delightful.

Spectacular property and views, quiet, relaxing, impeccable service food and wine
My husband and I spent a wonderfully relaxing 3 nights for our wedding anniversary staying in a Balcony Room. We were given the tip-off regarding balcony rooms from a local friend and we’re very happy we did. The view is spectacular, the room gorgeously decorated in keeping with the heritage vibe of the house and was extremely comfortable. Highlights were the impeccable service by every staff member especially the gentleman at front of house but also Hardys restaurant waiters. Food and wine were top notch. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing trip this is it. Highly recommended to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life especially for us Melburnians!

Wonderful Hills Experience !
A great location with first class dining, wine list and service. Plenty to see and do. All this 20 minutes from Adelaide's CBD. Exceptional value.

Great atmospheric place in beautiful natural surroundings and amazing hospitality
From the time we arrived to the time we left, the service and hospitality was amazing. So many wonderful spaces to relax and unwind and the food was spectacular. Our dining "experience" in the Hardy's Verandah Restaurant was memorable. We asked our staff serving the food not to reveal what we were eating until after we had finished each course and this increased the enjoyment even more for us. The incredible skills of the chefs were evident after seeing and tasting everything. What a treat. We stayed in the Tower Suite and it felt like we were away from everything. This is a hidden gem of the beautiful Adelaide Hills and well worth our 8 hour drive to get there.
