About the Hotel
We are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings. Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

Most memorable 5-Star stay we’ve ever had.
What an amazing stay! We were taken care of from the moment we arrived. Lachlan gave an AMAZING tour and did it with great energy. All the staff are kind and helpful. It’s so calm and relaxing here. We just settled in and enjoyed the amenities. Playing some games, walking the grounds, playing billiards, enjoying a snack or drink at the bar or just quietly reading in a common room. The room was big and the bed was so comfortable. Everything was clean and taken care of.

A bucket list item ticked and will be back!
Mount Lofty guest house was a bucket list item for me and I celebrated my birthday with a 3 night stay. It was to expectation and our room, always smiling staff from start to finish and prompt service and the food and drinks excellent. The dinner in Martha Hardys restaurant was exceptional and the service with a Happy Birthday plate and chocolates a nice surprise. We will return again and hope for better weather but log fires were warm and toasty. Thanks to all! We also had treatments at the Gatekeepers Spa. Alison was wonderful from the greeting right through to the treatment. I think the best facial I have ever experienced.

Experience the history and ambience
Mount Lofty House is a true experience stepping back in time and appreciating the rich history of the property and the amazing ambience. My husband and I were gifted an experience at the House for our 50th wedding anniversary and it was a wonderful experience. The staff are extremely professional and you can tell that they enjoy their roles. All in all I would highly recommend this beautiful property especially for a couples get a way or a very special celebration.

Special 40th wedding anniversary weekend away.
Having spent the weekend at the hotel we couldn’t have asked for more. The service was first rate. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. The food also was excellent. We would highly recommended the hotel to anyone.
