About the Hotel
We are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings. Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

Annual retreat for sisters
I have just returned from 3 glorious days at Mt Lofty House. The whole experience was simply outstanding- from the warm welcome when we arrived, with a glass of bubbles, to the amazing food, beautiful room, peaceful nooks, serene garden, lovely pool and so much more. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and we loved the tour with Chris- so informative and entertaining. Mt Lofty House is a very special place- like a sanctuary. I have returned home feeling nurtured- thanks to the treatments at the spa ( make sure you book ahead!) - and relaxed and also very spoilt. Thank you to all the lovely staff who looked after us.

Beautiful setting. Beautiful food, beautiful staff
What a magical place. We loved it. The room was gorgeous. The property was extremely well kept and beautiful. And the staff were the friendliest we’ve ever encountered. We had dinner in the veranda restaurant and the food was an amazing experience of its own. Will definitely be back!!

A getaway in the Adelaide Hills
Our travel agent booked us into Mount Lofty Hills and it was fabulous. Quiet location, perfect puck up for our wine tours. Staff, location, food and drink were so much more than we expected. Pampering but relaxed and casual. Thank you to all the staff for making 3 Canadians feel welcome and at home. We had no idea the resort existed but we loved it.
