Halfway between Paris and Brittany, in the magnificent Loire region, the 500-year-old, privately owned Château de St. Paterne boasts an intriguing past. With just eight guestrooms, this former rendezvous of King Henry IV blends the feel of a private residence with the comforts of an elegant boutique hotel. Period furnishings add to the splendor, while genteel activities integrate you into the exclusive world of castle living.

This is a magical place ! Utterly beautiful chateau in immaculate grounds with gorgeous flowers and trees and a massive manicured lawn. Cute swimming pool and the rooms are extraordinary and filled with surprises (shower in a secret cupboard!). Just delightful. Dinner on the lawn was delicious and atmospheric. Staff are charming and welcoming. It was a real surprise and we will return !

Surrounded by rather dreary light industry you sweep through gates into a little oasis. Glorious building, gardens and huge parkland. Our dog was in seventh heaven. Our ground floor room was very comfortable and well stocked with delicious things to eat and drink, and we enjoyed having drinks before dinner with the other guests and then a “no choice’ but excellent three course dinner with a good and affordable wine list. Breakfast also excellent. No idea what the previous reviewer meant; suspect she is just a troll; must be a nightmare for people who run hotels when you get someone who just loves to be nasty

Beautiful old style French chateau. The bedrooms are very atmospheric and comfortable. Excellent cuisine. Well worth a visit.

The castle is a unique place, reminiscent of a cultural heritage hall, where historical beauty and a warm, inviting atmosphere meet. Old paintings, libraries, and a fireplace give the space depth, while a large garden and personal, attentive service complete the experience—a place where history, beauty, and hospitality come together

I don’t usually bother writing reviews of tourism experiences but make an exception when the venue is extremely good or bad. In this case the tourism product is outstanding. Now, the Chateau is hundreds of years old so cut it some slack, it no doubt requires continual maintenance but Ségolène and her team make this hotel well worth visiting . We stayed for one night on our way back to the Cherbourg ferry and wished we had stayed 2 nights. If you are staying don’t miss the evening dinner which was superb. Our future visits to Northern France will include a visit here .
