AWFUL. Hotel "out of" water for Bonvoy! Went up to room -- no phone. They said someone would come up to "show me where it is." He confirmed no phone. Moved me down hall to another room with phone, but he said it didn't work, but someone would come next morning. No one came. Desk surprised when I inquired.Guy came up, tried to "fix" two different phone connections, but could not. Closet doors were jammed. Oh, Internet didn't work first night. Tried for 2 hours! I had to go down to desk (remember-NO PHONE!). Guy came up to "show me' how to connect. He verified my laptop and phone were fine, since HE would could not connect on his phone. Another hour and it worked, slowly. Next day I mentioned to desk, person insisted there was no problem the prior evening. Staff at hotel very pleasant, but the place is a joke. they know zero about hospitality. Went to floor for gym, no clear signs; asked housekeeper who knew NO ENGLISH. Finally, found gym. She was perhaps 30 feet away and didn't know it. Given what I went through, what was charged was preposterous. Great location, but the worst Marriott ever--obviously mismanaged from the top.

Exceeded my expectations. An absolutely charming hotel in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, within walking distance of many of the area’s key historic and tourist sites. The staff were friendly, attentive, and on point throughout my stay. My room was clean and comfortable, and the restaurant was fantastic. I would absolutely stay here again.

We stayed at The Alexandrian for a night away for my wife's birthday. Sam was fantastic coordinating our stay and got us upgraded to a suite. The staff were friendly, the room was huge and had that vintage classic feel to it and the breakfast was great. The location is also perfect for those wanting to walk to shops, restaurants, etc. Will definitely be back.

I am not one to usually write a negative review, especially one involving a Marriott owned property, as we are Platinum Elite and love Marriott properties. But this one was one that should not even be under the Marriott Brand. Our air conditioning system was so loud -- it sounded like we were about to take off -- could not sleep. The bed was worn out and uncomfortable - could not sleept. And the towels -- well, they have been in use well past their prime -- didn't seem clean. The lighting in the bathroom area is ridiculous. The room and hallways in general, are dingy. One of the elevators does not work and it took us 20 minutes to check in and get to our room -- mostly because of the elevator issue. Will never stay here again -- and for the first time -- ever, I will now have to check reviews on all Marriott owned properties. Something I have never felt a need to do before.

We've used this hotel many, many times over the years, but when Marriott took over its management, it quickly declined to the point that we swore five years ago never to return. We recently broke that oath and gave it another try in the hope that Marriott had finally gotten its act together. I'm sorry we did. The hotel might even be more of a shambles than it was five years ago. You can't help but get the feeling that they might be purposefully allowing it to deteriorate because they expect to close it down. We had no room phone. The jack had been physically cut out of the wall, and the phone was simply decoration since it wasn't connected to anything. On each of the three days we were there, we asked for it to be repaired, and on each of those three days we were simply ignored. The refrigerator didn't work, and we eventually had to fix that ourselves by pulling it out of its cabinet and moving it around the room until we found a working outlet for it. The television in our room didn't work either. It was finally fixed on the last day of our stay. On top of all that, the hotel is woefully understaffed. We repeatedly asked for luggage assistance on departure, and no one ever showed up to provide it. Eventually we had to take all our luggage down and load it ourselves, not an easy thing for a couple who's on in years to manage. Marriott should be ashamed to have its brand linked to this tribute to Faulty Towers, but it apparently doesn't much care.
