Great but terrible staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I'll say this. The location, the room, and the cleanliness are all great. However, I'm giving it a 3 star because customer service is severely lacking here. For a property like this one, as expensive as it is, 4 out 5 people I interacted with here were either completely dismissive, or completely indifferent. Not cool when you're in the hospitality business, and that's your job! When reception staff and restaurant staff, those responsible for welcoming you, put out a 'can't be bothered vibe', it doesn't bode well and leaves a sour note. If this place hired people who WANTED to work here, I'd give it a better review. Otherwise, expect to get the bare minimum from most staff here when it comes to making you feel like home. Too bad.

Management and staff need to understand what it means to be a "boutique" hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel has an identity problem. They desperately want to transition to a boutique hotel, but they can't figure it out. I have been to this hotel multiple times, and every time something is not quite right. The latest was showing up at 4pm, and not having my room ready. And it didn't get better from there. I want to love this place, given it's location in Old Town Alexandria, but the management and staff need to figure things out. Until they do, I will find another Marriott when I want to stay overnight in Alexandria.

A Wonderful Stay for Business or Pleasure!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed at the Alexandrian for a Board Meeting and they were absolutely accommodating. The meeting spaces were very well equipped for all of our needs. The rooms were very delightful, comfortable beds with charming decor. After a long day of meetings, it was refreshing to return to a room that was not your average stuffy hotel space. The staff were also very accommodating and always eager to assist!

Unbelievable Disgusting Shower

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

First room had a very loud gurgling AC unit, understandable for a old hotel yet still annoying. I asked to switch rooms and was moved to a larger king suite. Toilet continued to run and refill every few minutes, annoying but not a deal breaker. What was a deal breaker was an absolutely disgusting shower. Completely unacceptable and a reflection of both poor housekeeping and poor management for letting something like this to persist as it doesn't happen overnight. This is something I would expect at a youth hostel on a backpacking trip in Europe, not a Autograph Collection hotel. Room 537. Ambassador Elite/Lifetime Titanium Elite Member.

Lovely if you like cold showers and elevator noise.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

So I didn’t choose this hotel, I was supposed to stay at the Morrison around the block, but was emailed on my flight to DC that I was being transferred due to “unforeseen circumstances,” but that’s not why I choose two stars. I was “upgraded” to a king suite with a courtyard view and terrace. Upon entry the room smelled of mothballs and onions. I’d love to know why, but I digress. All I wanted after traveling was a shower, lucky for me all the hotel had was cold water. Then….the noise. At first, I figured it was the room above me rolling luggage. But after 30 minutes, it didn’t stop. Apparently, my room bumps up right to the elevator corridor, so I was able to hear each and every time the cables moved, jangled, or did what they do. This noise occurred every 30 seconds until about midnight. I wish I could post my video, but take my word for it….absolutely ridiculous they expect guests to stay in these rooms. I called the front desk and was only offered a pair of cheap earbuds. Funny they knew exactly the noise I was talking about. No dinner comp, internet comp, etc. Between no hot water and the noise, it was a miserable week. And definitely not worth the price I paid.
