A late 19th century liberty style villa immersed in the beautiful scenery of the Amalfi Coast, an elegant seaside residence surrounded by the perennial blue of the Mediterranean sea and sky, by luscious bougainvillea and by lovingly cultivated olive groves and fruit orchards. This is Hotel Santa Caterina of Amalfi, a special place to experience the finest of Italian hospitality and lasting sensations of well-being. The hotel overlooks a large estate that winds its way down the cliffside along a series of scenic natural terraces in the rock face. Guests can use the private elevators or stairs to access the exclusive beach club or the center of Amalfi and the other famed villages along the Amalfi Coast.Classic Italian interiors, quintessentially Mediterranean architecture and the style of the villas of Amalfi: all of Hotel Santa Caterina's rooms are spacious and filled with light, with floors in hand painted majolica, marble bathrooms, and balconies with view over the sea of Amalfi or the garden. Nestling in one of the most beautiful corners of the Amalfi Coast, Hotel Santa Caterina's Beach Club is easy to access by way of two comfortable elevators carved in to the rock face, and has a heated salt water pool, fitness area, and sun deck. The Beach Club is also home to the Hotel Santa Caterina's Restaurant Al Mare, the perfect place to enjoy a light snack, a delicious pizza or platter of fresh grilled fish.

The Santa Caterina is a place of peace and luxury within the rather manic Amalfi Coast. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite which was fantastic, and gave us far greater space than we had expected. All of the staff were extremely professional and friendly and the location was perfect - we had been concerned about the ability to get to Amalfi town, but the hotel shuttle was available up to midnight with just a call. The breakfast was excellent, particularly on sunny mornings on the outside terrace, while both Glicine (for dinner) and Al Mare (for lunch) were well worth visiting. The pool area is a real bonus, with plenty of seating area by the sea and a heated pool. It is well worth treating yourself to a stay.

Long weekend for 20 year anniversary. We were thoroughly charmed by the highly professional, kind and friendly staff. The hotel is stunning, art deco era and beautifully maintained and no obvious (bad) renovations; every detail thought out and presentated in true Italian tasteful style. I pray I get to return and jump off the rocks into the sea. Despite cold weather there was lots to do and see during this quieter time. We were thankful to drive along the coast without the crowds and traffic.

In order to enjoy one of the last weekends of Italian summer, we spent 5 days in Amalfi and stayed at Santa Caterina Hotel. There is only one word to accurately describe the location of this hotel – absolutely stunning. The building hangs on a cliff, approx. 150 meters above the emerald surface of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The main hall as well as all of the restaurants and bars have a direct view to the Gulf of Salerno. There is a vintage glass elevator taking you all the way down to the Beach Club located on a rock ledge, just above the sea. Last but not least, the rock terraces around the hotel are all covered with lemon groves, which adds to the delightful mediterranean atmosphere. We stayed at Junior Suite room, arranged in a typical South Italian style with lots of natural motives and with a cozy loggia overlooking the Sea. What was very frustrating though, was that you could basically hear any louder conversations in rooms around you. When the morning service was cleaning one of these rooms, we were woken up by irritating noise of them moving chairs and tables left and right. As if that wasn't enough, we could also hear the toilette flushing on the level above our room and the water going all the way down through the pipes. All that taken together has definitely not contributed to the expected 5-star hotel Junior Suite experience. It could be partly explained by the fact, that the building itself is at least 40 years old, but understanding is not forgiving 😉 Especially considering the price. It was partly made up by the service though, which was very friendly and helpful. And as central-north Europeans, we were absolutely charmed by the typical South Italian, laid-back and familiar courtesy. You just got to love it. Same story with the food, which was no surprise, since it is hard not to like the mediterranean cuisine. But the food at the hotel was simply delicious. The breakfasts offered a huge variety of bakery goods, cheese, cold cuts as well as fruits and vegetables. Two big separate tables were dedicated to pastries and cakes, which were absolutely fabulous. There are also three restaurants and the hotel (one of them awarded a Michelin star) and they do offer mediterranean cuisine of an exquisite quality. Having all that in mind, it comes as no surprise, that the overall impression of hotel is really excellent. It would be 10/10 if not those thin walls, through which you hear all the noises from neighboring rooms.
