About the Hotel

Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel is the kind of place that feels almost dreamlike from the moment you arrive, rising from the cliffs in a beautifully restored 13th-century convent where history, serenity, and coastal glamour meet. The setting is breathtaking: pale stone archways, cloistered walkways, and sunlit terraces frame wide-open views of the Amalfi Coast and the shimmering sea below, while the interiors bring a polished sense of calm with elegant rooms and suites, refined details, and a peaceful spa designed for unhurried indulgence. Guests can drift between the pool, terrace lounges, and inviting dining spaces, where every corner seems made for long breakfasts, leisurely aperitifs, and sunset moments that feel straight out of a postcard.

Beyond the hotel, Amalfi is wonderfully close, placing the cathedral, harbor, beach, and lively town center within easy reach. It’s easy to spend the day wandering narrow lanes lined with boutiques, cafés, and local trattorias, then return to the quiet luxury of the clifftop retreat above it all. Boat excursions, scenic coastal drives, and nearby villages add even more to the experience, making this a beautiful base for travelers who want both the romance of Amalfi and the ease of a five-star escape.

Reviews for Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel

I had my wedding here— beautiful hotel, rude staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 23 hours ago

The staff at this hotel were extremely rude and unprofessional. This was not the warm, welcoming environment you would expect from a five-star hotel. I had my wedding at this hotel, and from the very start (after signing our contract, of course), communication was terrible. My questions would go weeks without being answered, and I would have to send multiple emails to even get a response. Half of the time, the responses I got never actually answered the question I asked. Then, when we arrived at the hotel for my wedding, it was apparent that my wedding was a big inconvenience for most of the staff members at this hotel. On my wedding day, the staff was primarily concerned with making sure they would be able to get their midnight swim in, so they prematurely took down the table and moved all of mine and my guests’ items. This caused a lot of items, including our vow books, to be misplaced. There were several other items, like sunglasses and the notes we hand-wrote our guests that were also lost or thrown away. When we tried to ask for help from the venue to look for our missing items, we were met with disdain and hostility. Only one of the staff members was kind enough to help us look with a flashlight. Since our items were not able to be located, we asked the front desk if anyone had turned them in or if they could make a report in case anyone found them when the sun was out the following day. Again, this seemed like a burden to the team member at the front desk who didn’t even start to write a report until I begged him to, in hopes my vow books would turn up. The following day, the event manager, Antonella, sent a highly disappointing email. Her email focused entirely on the alleged behavior of members of our wedding party without any acknowledgment of the conduct of hotel staff or the events that led to those interactions. Her email even asked us to apologize to the staff, the same staff who actually yelled at me while I was standing in my wedding dress asking if my vow books were accidentally thrown away in the chaos of their premature clean-up. He screamed at my husband and me and told us to “floor minus 2 and look through the trash for them." Again, this is not the “welcoming, respected, and safe” environment Convento di Amalfi boasts about. With that being said, the woman who checked us into our hotel couldn’t have been nicer; she even upgraded us to a suite, and there was fruit and champagne waiting for us inside. The woman checking us out was also very kind. I thought it was very nice that Convento di Amalfi gave my husband and me personalized luggage tags as a wedding gift. My wedding turned out beautiful, however the dinner service was over an hour and a half behind schedule. Since the wedding had to promptly end at midnight, we had to ask them to speed it up so we could start the after party. Since they took down the table early, this lead to most of the guests not getting dessert, along with the chaos of all of the missing items.

A Stunning and Peaceful Stay for My Wife’s 40th

A Stunning and Peaceful Stay for My Wife’s 40th We visited the Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel in March 2026 as part of a surprise trip for my wife’s 40th birthday. It was just the two of us, no expense was spared, and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The hotel itself is simply stunning. Its location, history and breathtaking views make it feel incredibly special from the moment you arrive. The staff were exceptional—attentive, friendly and genuinely unable to do enough for us throughout our stay. We stayed in one of the suites with a hot tub on the balcony, and it was beautiful. The room was luxurious, the balcony was the perfect place to relax, and the views across the Amalfi Coast were unforgettable. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We also spent time relaxing around the hotel with drinks and canapés, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The weather in March wasn’t quite warm enough for us to use the outdoor pool, but it looked spectacular, and I can only imagine how beautiful it must be during the summer months. One of the benefits of visiting in March was that the hotel wasn’t overcrowded. It was wonderfully peaceful and provided exactly the relaxing experience we wanted for our four-night stay. The additional touches were first-class, including the Acqua di Parma toiletries and Dyson appliances. Everything felt premium and carefully considered. The hotel also provided a complimentary shuttle into Amalfi on the hour, every hour. The staff were often happy to help with additional journeys between the scheduled times, which made getting into town incredibly easy. This was a genuinely beautiful find and the perfect setting for such a special occasion. We had an amazing stay and would return without hesitation.

My daughters and I felt absolutely pampered and spoilt at Anantara Amalfi. Every detail was taken care of. From the toiletries in the bathroom to the wood oven pizza offered by the pool to the unparalleled views and extensive breakfast menu we loved every moment. Above all, the staff were especially friendly. Many thanks to the great team!!

Luxury at the Amalfi

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Luxury is the theme here due to the service, incredible views, & the vast property. From the moment you are greeted with your personal guide to the time you leave, the staff makes you feel like you are the most important guest. The vastness of the property combined with its proximity, beauty and impressive surroundings is both inspiring and luxurious. The rooms are large, elegant and clean. The pool disappears into the Mediterranean and is refreshing after a day of touring. The private beach club is to notch as you have a separate area away from the other beach goers. The old church set against the rock face truly captures the beauty and grace of Amailfi. The morning breakfast is over the top with ample food choices that are both diverse and delicious. The bartender is a true mixologist that makes cocktails that impress. There is a casual and upscale restaurant. The food was good but the ambience is better. It’s pricey for food & drinks so be prepared to pay 2x-3x more that you would if you go down the the city center. For example, a bottle of water is €12 and a mixed drink is around €30. But that’s the trade off for the luxury you will experience. Finally, there is a free shuttle that takes you to and from the city circle. If you get there by ferry, just contact the hotel and they will send a shuttle. It’s a short 2-3 minute drive. We will definitely stay there again when we return to the Amalfi or visit one of there other luxurious properties around the world.

Your expectations are your own problem.

I stayed at Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel from July 31 to August 1 and paid approximately €2,300 for a room with a balcony, including breakfast. Unfortunately, I feel it is important to warn other travelers to think carefully before choosing this hotel. There is no doubt that this is a beautiful historic property with an incredible setting, and I fully respect the history of the place. However, when a hotel carries the Anantara name and charges prices at this level, I expect a completely different standard of cleanliness, maintenance, service, and overall experience. When we first entered our room, we found a used bar of soap left behind by the previous guests, which immediately raised serious questions about how carefully the room had been cleaned. The bidet shower next to the toilet was also completely out of order. This was room 709 — I hope the hotel management takes note of this and finally fixes it. Shortly afterwards, we discovered moths in the room. After expressing our dissatisfaction, we were moved to another, more spacious room. Unfortunately, there were moths there as well, along with ants. Perhaps insects are one of the disadvantages of staying in such an old historic building, but at this price level I still expect the hotel to have appropriate pest-control measures in place. In response to our complaints, we were offered complimentary drinks at the bar. Considering the amount we paid and how much we had been looking forward to staying here, this felt like a very weak response to what had already become a disappointing experience. We declined the complimentary drinks, and eventually the hotel offered to deduct €50 from our bill. Frankly, €50 against a hotel bill of approximately €2,300 hardly feels like meaningful compensation. The breakfast was another disappointment. The selection was surprisingly limited for a five-star hotel of this level, and the food itself was simply not enjoyable. During our stay, we also spent approximately another €800 at the property on a romantic dinner and food by the pool. So this was certainly not a case of guests looking for a cheap stay and complaining about minor imperfections. We were prepared to spend money for a genuinely premium experience — and that is exactly why the disappointment was so significant. We had been travelling around southern Italy and were genuinely looking forward to arriving at Anantara Amalfi. It was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip. Unfortunately, it became one of its biggest disappointments. The location, views and history of the property are undoubtedly special. But beautiful surroundings alone are not enough. At this price point, guests are paying not only for the building and the view, but also for impeccable cleanliness, maintenance, attention to detail and service. Sadly, based on our experience, the hotel did not meet the standard I associate with the Anantara brand or with a luxury hotel in this price category.
