Casa da Calçada...One of the Best Hotels We’ve Ever Stayed In

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

When we arrived at Casa de Calcada from Porto (about a 45 minute drive), they welcomed us with a glass of sparkling wine and then gave us a little tour of the property. The hotel is located in Amarante in a beautiful old village. Our room had a view over the Tamega River and the ancient bridge and church on the other side of the river. The property and room was so amazing that we immediately called the front desk to extend our stay. That had a snowball effect on all of our other travel plans that was painful (and a bit costly) but still well worth it. There are many food options and breakfast at the hotel was a highlight every day. The various restaurants at the hotel were all very good as were a few of the cafes we tried in the village. Every morning we started the day with a bike ride along the river which has incredible pathways and areas to sit and take in the river views. I recommend going early to get the best selection of bikes but walking is great as well. The location worked out really well for us as it was I think in the Doro Valley but a 30 minute car ride to some of the many wineries we visited. I think the hotel recommended the tour guides for the wineries and they were quite good. I would recommend the spa as it was very nice and must have been updated when the hotel was renovated as it was very modern. Also the grounds and vineyard are quite nice and you get some nice view from the top of the property if you walk up there. The staff was very good and helpful but always professional. We will definitely be back next time we’re in the area and highly recommend it. In fact, we have a group of friends that have already booked for this fall though I warned them, they didn’t book for long enough!

Exceeding all expectations

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed in. And the staff could not be lovelier. It’s worth visiting Amarante just to stay at this hotel. But Amarante would be worth visiting even without it. Casa da Calcada has an incredible view on the town and the staff’s love for the town is as evident as their care and hospitality.

A Dreamy Romantic Getaway in Amarante

I had a wonderful stay at Casa da Calçada in Amarante. The hotel is beautifully renovated, combining historic charm with modern comfort. My room was spacious, elegant, and very comfortable, with thoughtful personalized touches and high-quality amenities. Breakfast was excellent, with both buffet and à la carte options offering great variety and quality. I also really enjoyed the spa area, especially the indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath, all surrounded by the hotel’s peaceful gardens. The bistro restaurant served delicious food, and the wine tasting experience was a great highlight. Most of all, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the entire stay feel warm and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.
