⚠️ WARNING – Do Not Stay Here ⚠️ This resort is unsafe. The air is filled with ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gas from decomposing sea grass, and the manager is arrogant and dismissive of serious health risks. During my stay, two women had to be rushed to the hospital—one of them an experienced diver who developed decompression sickness on a shallow dive. I felt ill the entire time I was there, and staff tried to blame “sand fleas.” It was not fleas. Scientific fact: The decomposition of beached sargasso begins within 48 hours of washing ashore. It releases hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) gas and ammonia. H₂S is a broad-spectrum poison released into the air that poses serious risks to human health. Your health is at risk. Stay far away from this place.

Great location. Resort was very quiet and was like a private oasis. Couldn’t recommend this resort enough. The food and staff was excellent.

From the moment we arrived at Matachica, it felt like stepping into a dream. This place is truly paradise perfected—intimate, elegant, and effortlessly relaxing. The staff were beyond warm and attentive, always making us feel like honored guests without being intrusive. Every interaction felt genuine, and their attention to detail was unmatched. Our casita was beautifully decorated with vibrant, local touches and offered ultimate privacy. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the Caribbean breeze was pure magic. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The cocktails at the bar were tropical perfection—don’t miss the frozen watermelon mojito! Whether we were lounging by the pool, kayaking over crystal-clear water, or just soaking in the peaceful vibe, everything about Matachica was designed for relaxation and joy. If you’re looking for a boutique experience with luxury, soul, and natural beauty, Matachica is the place. I didn’t want to leave—and I’m already planning my return.

Hands down the best vacation my husband and I have ever taken together! We took this trip as a babymoon and the resort staff was beyond accommodating. Everything at the resort was perfect: the food was incredible, the pool was so nice to sit around and we never had to fight for a chair, the staff was so kind and equally fun, housekeeping came by 2x a day to fix up our room, and every excursion we did was incredible! I could go on and on about this place. We never return to a resort or location just because there is so much of the world to see, but I absolutely plan on us returning to Matachica in the future!

The Matachica resort was excellent from the moment we arrived at the San Pedro airport. Transfer to the hotel via boat was excellent, and we were warmly greeted with a cold drink. From there the service was excellent! The food and chef were incredible; everything was excellent, fresh, and well prepared. My wife is gluten free, and every waiter knew that once we sat down. The concierge was very helpful in arranging our excursions, and even when one fell through he was able to rebook and support an alternative option (that ended up being better). Matachica is 5 miles north of town and is quiet and peaceful; the perfect place if you want to relax and skip the business of San Pedro.
