About the Hotel

Once a nondescript public library building, overlooking the Prinsengracht (Prince’s Canal), Andaz Amsterdam has been transformed into a fantastical dream-world by Dutch architect and renowned designer Marcel Wanders. Traditional Dutch art and culture meshes with the present at every turn. Sit in the oversized tulip chairs, read the history of Amsterdam on the wallpaper, stroll through the romantic secretive garden, and take pictures in our Instagram-worthy Observatorium - where the history of Dutch seafaring is retold through light-fixture constellations and Old World maps.

Stunning hotel and location. Beware the Hyatt deposit policy though

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Gorgeous hotel - way too cool for us! Decor, food and location A+. Lovely dog in lobby though. Negatives were the check in super slow as there was a large group ahead of us that liked to chat! (that's fine, but we were super tired and just wanted to get into room). Post check out left a big stain on our experience though, my pet peeve in fact. Even though we paid in full on check-out they kept the deposit on my credit card for over 8 days and only refunded the sizeable amount (the value of the entire stay) after I called their accounts department several times. I know hotels' strategy here, they double dip and the money they hold on to they earn interest etc. But I'm a Hyatt member of over 15 years, we'd paid in full, there was no extras to cover off. They string you that line that it's the policy of the banks but my bank takes and returns money in an instant when the vendor instruct them to do so, so this is just not true. I think this policy of holding sizeable amounts of travellers money - when they are likely to need to the cash for the forward journey - is unethical.

Fine except for two serious problems!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I would have given this hotel a 5* rating except for two disappointments. The location is great, the bed, pillows, cover, and room in general were very comfortable and quiet, and we enjoyed the canal view, so we spent a very pleasant 15 nights there, and even had a guest in a separate room for two nights. We also liked both restaurants and the bar. However, a 5* hotel should not have mildew in its shower, which worked fine otherwise. We saw mildew when we arrived, complained about the increasing mildew mid-stay, but little was done to clean it up, so it was still there when we departed. The scrubbing with a brush and some bleach, which would have immediately eliminated the problem, certainly was NOT done. So much for thorough cleaning! Also disturbing was that a staff member, probably not the normal cleaning crew, but someone summoned to do a small repair to the shower door base strip, clearly rummaged through our luggage, as the content was in quite a different order than we left. Nothing was taken, probably because nothing of interest was left there. However, we advised the management to pay attention to such staff behavior. If they ever investigated and found the culprit, we certainly did not hear about it. In short, there are management problems here.

Wonderful Stay at Andaz Amsterdam – Perfect for First-Time Visitors

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed at Andaz Amsterdam for three nights during our first trip to the city and absolutely loved it. The rooms are comfortable and stylish, with warm showers, well-sized closets, and trendy décor that gives the hotel a modern, inviting feel. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We left for a two-day trip to Denmark in the middle of our visit, and the hotel happily stored our bags for us—such a thoughtful convenience. The location is fantastic for families visiting Amsterdam for the first time. It’s centrally situated, making it easy to explore both the old and new parts of the city, as well as the museum quarter. Just around the corner, you’ll find great cafés and plenty of shops if you’re in the mood to browse. Highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for comfort, convenience, and top-notch service in Amsterdam.
