Amsterdam is a city of such charm it(TM)s hard to imagine a hotel that can surpass its allure. But the dramatic The Dylan Amsterdam, the creation of über-chic designer Anouska Hempel, sets the standard for hip hotels. It enjoys a beautiful location on the Keizersgracht Canal and it amazes with individually furnished themed rooms that include a fantasy in candy-colored stripes and a soothing Zen escape. Spending a quiet moment in the lovely garden is the perfect prelude for afternoon tea in the Long Gallery.

During my stay at The Dylan, I experienced a theft from my room — something completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming to be “luxury.” When I reported it, the Duty Manager, Edwin, handled it with what I would say was reactive best, if I'm being polite. ( a proactive attitude might not be a strong point at The Dylan) Their “investigation” consisted of a quick look at the cameras (as if phones and small items can’t be concealed — common sense, really) and a reassuring statement that the person who cleaned my room is “one of their most trustworthy employees.” That means absolutely nothing to me as a guest who had something stolen. No accountability, no meaningful action, and no follow-up other than an email that meant nothing. Housekeeping needs serious reform — particularly the manager, who seems to lack even the basics of team management, supervision, and discretion. For a property that trades on reputation, this experience exposed carelessness, misplaced trust, and a complete lack of professional handling.

The Dylan sets the standard for a boutique luxury hotel. My wife and I chose to stay at the Dylan for a 3 day Amsterdam visit after a 10 day river cruise on the Rhine. I labored over choosing a hotel, but opted for a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, knowing the standards the group sets. The most outstanding part of our stay was the high quality of professional staff and superior service standards. Every member of the staff (reception, restaurants, housekeeping and concierge) we interacted with, were cordial, accommodating, knowledgeable, helpful and went above and beyond with a few unique requests we needed. My wife has food sensitivities to gluten and dairy and the restaurant /bar staff were very knowledgeable about food ingredients, going out of their way to provide delicious and safe food options. Our room (main building luxury double) was spacious, clean and quiet, with only 3 other rooms on the floor. There was plenty of bathroom sink counter space, separate toilet and shower and high quality adjustable lighting. The Dylan's location is perfect, being centrally located within waking distant to Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House, in addition to numerous restaurants, canals and shopping. My wife and I are seasoned travelers and have truly been spoiled by The Dylan.

What an amazing journey ! I don't know many hotels that start off with a guided tour including a history of its storied past. Wilhelmina and her staff went above and beyond expectations. We happened to be there on Kings Day and the staff diligently protected the hotel grounds. Water and a soft chair always ready. The bar with specialty drinks was a welcome respite and a place for great conversation. The room was impeccable and such attention to detail. We ate at Bar Brasserie and I never before had chicken so tender. Plan to go back when it is not so crowded. Although that was part of the fun.

Great location in old 9 streets historic part of Amsterdam. Easy walkability to most sites of interest, shopping, and restaurants. The service is top notch and the facilities were great. The room was very comfortable and quiet at the time of our stay. Food was very good. The breakfast had great selection and really good service.

We loved our stay at the Dylan. It's hard to find a quiet hotel in such a busy city, but the Dylan completely delivered. Our room was beautiful, the staff was super friendly, and the location can't be beat. Located in the very cool 9 Streets neighborhood, it was easy for us to walk or tram anywhere in town. And there were lots of great restaurants all around us (including in the hotel!) We got lots of insider tips from the hotel staff, and really loved the pre-stay email that listed all kinds of favorite things to do & places to eat. It made our planning easy and more locally focused too. It's a splurge, but totally worth it. Stay here if you can! Quick tip: Join the loyalty club, called Leaders Club, and book on the hotel's site, to get free breakfast - even if it's your first stay. Loved this perk!
