Fantastic Property in Amsterdam

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Without a doubt one of the finest hotels we have stayed in. From the outstanding service provided by the staff, beautiful facilities, including fitness centre and pool, and spacious rooms this property is a real treat! We enjoyed an outstanding cote de boeuf dinner in the Amstel Lounge and finished up our evening in the brassiere bar. Both facilities offering fantastic canal views. Beautiful property! Highly recommend!

VERY GOOD; BUT SCOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

My wife and I stayed from 8 to 12 September 2025. It is a classy hotel with a gorgeous location on the east bank of the Amstel; some 2km or so from Centraal Station and 1.5km from Museumplein. Whilst standards were generally very high, there was scope for improvement. Specifically: (a) Check in – Excellent (b) Room – Excellent (c) Dinner at restaurant - Terrace excellent. Food good to very good. (d) Breakfast a. Only a la carte offered. A buffet option would be good – see below. b. On our first morning, 9 September: i. I was advised that, as a Diamond Elite IHG member, the free breakfast was limited to €36pp. I am not aware of any such restriction in the IHG Rewards Programme. With prices at €15 for two eggs, this could easily be exceeded. ii. It took 10 minutes before coffee and juice arrived; longer for food. c. Subsequent mornings: i. Service was immaculate. ii. It still took time for the small cup of coffee to be delivered. A pot or bigger cup would be better. (e) Spa – Well maintained. Pool (overlooking the Amstel), steam room and sauna. Massage (Sofia), the best. (f) Lunch at restaurant –Smoked mackerel and croquettes disappointing. (g) Check out – Two issues: a. When it came to printing off the bill, the lady said she would email it. She never did. b. The amount that was charged to my credit card was €87 more than the amount I remember being advised at check out. Two emails querying this have gone unanswered for 2 weeks.

Iconic Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This is possibly the most iconic hotel in the city - it is more than 100 years old. The hardware is aging by now but air conditioning was much better at this hotel than in newer hotels such as Andaz Amsterdam where we sweat like pigs in the summer a few years ago. At InterContinental for this stay we received a suite upgrade as IHG Diamond which was appreciated; the suite was quite nice with high ceilings. I also liked the very wide hallways, the great hotel common areas such as the restaurant and bar by the water. As they have a long history of being a luxury hotel, service was quite good, making the brand IC a strange fit because it's not the top of IHG brands (Kimpton, Six Senses, and Regent are all above IC). Also from the pictures on their website I thought Amstel was a huge hotel (like many ICs are) but they only have 79 rooms which allows them to deliver good service in a quiet setting. 24 of the rooms are suites so that's a very high ratio suites/rooms and it's much easier to get a suite upgrade here than elsewhere in the city. I can live with the older hardware at IC which is admittedly very much a mixed bag (for example, see picture of peeling wallpaper in our room) and not really my preferred style, in exchange for suite upgrade and very good service from staff plus attractive public areas. I would be happy returning to this hotel in the future.
