Perfect Stay in the Heart of Amsterdam

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I stayed at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam last week and had such a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. It really felt like every detail was taken care of. The room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated – the perfect place to relax after exploring the city. Breakfast was a highlight too, with so many fresh and tasty options to choose from. The hotel itself has so much character, with a mix of history and luxury, and the location couldn’t be better – right in the centre but still calm and peaceful inside. All in all, it was an unforgettable stay and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!

Lovely hotel with fantastic staff and facilities

A friend and I recently stayed at The Grand and could not fault our stay in any way. From the moment we checked into the hotel the staff were amazing, our room was beautiful with all amenities you could wish for and the location was fantastic. We also did the History Tour of the hotel and that was amazing, so much history of such a lovely building, well worth the time for this free tour. One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in and can't wait to visit again!

Five Star hotel 🏨 in the heart of Old Town

My husband and I just finished our four-night stay at this hotel. Our experience was excellent. The staff was super attentive and checking on our comfort through our stay. It was not just superficial, any kind of issue we had was taken care of immediately. Room service was really fast and the housekeeping immaculate. The concierge connected us with an excellent guide for our city. Breakfast every morning was included and had a buffet and hot freshly prepared options. Try their take on Dutch pancakes. Very balanced flavors and the freshest ingredients. I have no reservations in recommending them to anyone.

I have never left a trip advisor review until this hotel. So, yeah. Staff was lovely at check in. Room was outdated looking and not super big, but that’s not a huge deal to me. Breakfast: took like 10 minutes to get sat. Then even longer for service. We finished our food from the buffet before our drinks even arrived. I had to find someone and ask where our coffee was. Second day at breakfast we wait 10 minutes again. Then we are brought to a table but the server is behind in her section so we have to go to a different table. Room: we had a fly in our room the entire trip. It was there before we entered the room, and honestly, probably is still there. I won’t go into details, but we heard staff talking about guests rooms right in front of us. Really inappropriate. Like, REALLY inappropriate. We asked a concierge for directions to something booked. Didn’t get clear directions beyond “go here and ask people.” We walked two hours and missed our event. Someone rang our doorbell while the do not disturb was on as well. To top it all off, someone was going number 2 right outside the hotel entrance on our last night. Not the hotels fault but… the smell. Just not worth the money.

Great Location, Fantastic Staff, Services and Amentities. Take the rate that includes breakfast.

We booked this hotel based on the reviews. The hotel is a block south of the red-light district, but feels like a world away. The hotel is close to the train station and the city center. We were a 20 minute walk from almost everything we wanted to do. (The museum quarter and Vondelpark were a bit farther out.) The staff was incredibly helpful, and they were able to book us cabs at a discounted rate for the times we had to go outside of the city center. The breakfast is fantastic. There were so many options, and the staff is very friendly and engaging. You can choose the buffet, the ala carte menu or both. If you do go to breakfast, please be aware that you need to wait to be seated. Sometimes the host station is empty because he or she is helping out. Some guests were seating themselves and grabbing items from the buffet, only to find that they were missing out on the full experience. The staff gave us welcome champagne, helped us with train tickets, and researched several sites that we wanted to visit outside of Amsterdam. It feel the way a five-star hotel should feel. We had a room with a canal view, and it was so nice to look out at the boats and people strolling by. The room was quiet, and the bathroom was modern and nice.

The Sofitel Grand was an ok property. Upon check, I asked about an upgrade, if available, (per your website), they said they gave me an upgrade to a canal view. A very small dark room. Not at all what I expected, a true disappointment!
