Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

This hotel is not your large luxury business hotel, instead it has an intimate, luxury feeling which allows you to mix business and pleasure. The dinner food was excellent.

Just perfect luxury in every way. We landed on this as a last minute hotel when we couldn't decide where to stay in Amsterdam and it was beautiful. It's a boutique hotel on the Herengracht Canal (aka the Gentleman's Canal) near Rembrandt Square, a lively and vibrant area a block away. It's a 15 min walk to the Rijksmuseum, a 20 min walk to the Van Gogh Museum and a 25 min walk to the Anne Frank House. May greeted us upon arrival and she was so unbelievably sweet. We stayed in Rm 221, and it was lovely and huge. It didn't have much of a view, except for a small window at the top of a small window bench of the canal, so if views are important, ask for them to show you another room and prepare to pay a significant amount more. The hotel is immaculate, I find it impressive when housekeeping keeps the place spotless, yet they are rarely ever seen. Each of the staff is 5 star in every way, and Frank our concierge was terrific. We stayed at 5 hotels on this trip and this was my husband's favorite. The hotel houses the Michelin Star restaurant Spectrum for a tasting menu. The website looks great, but living in Chicago, we've been to so many tasting menu's and didn't want to commit 3+ hours at a restaurant. My quick tips that I hope you find helpful: 1) Book Anne Frank tickets at least 6 weeks starting on a Tuesday at 10am or you won't get a space without paying 10 x more. 2) Book your Van Gogh tickets (these are timed tickets as well) a week out or you might end up like us (we tried 3 days out) without tickets. 3) We purchased our Rijks Museum tickets at the door with no problem. 4) Choose a canal tour with drinks and snacks with a departure time of an hour before sunset. We took a Captain Jack's canal cruise for $50 pp an hour before sunset so we could experience 30 min of light, 30 min of sunset and 30 min of the city lit up in the dark. I think it's exquisite at sunset and beautiful at night, but you can't see the details of the architecture as well. If you want something more intimate, the concierge can book a private boat tour, we just really enjoy meeting other people so we liked going on a group tour. If you take a boat like on Captain Jack's tour, sit on the side of the captain for better views as the front of the boat is raised up.

Fabulous hotel ! We missed a connecting flight back to US. Got a reservation here at the last minute and so happy we did. Hotel is on a canal near fun walking areas and canal boat tours. Room was large and perfectly appointed. Very clean and nice bedding and towels( bed itself on the firm side). Staff are amazingly attentive and helpful. They even arranged bags with items needed since our luggage couldn’t be retrieved. I could go on but do yourself a favor and stay here!

Simply the best hotel in Amsterdam. A true luxury experience, great staff and a wonderful breakfast. Dominic Bryghton and Justus were a highlight of our 5 days Nothing was too much trouble for them and had a genuine interest in making us feel welcome and special. Lovely experience from check in to check out. Our room had the view of the canal. Everyone we encountered was welcoming, warm & love the small touches ie room spray selection, turn down service etc. breakfast was great. Within walking distance to attractions snd canal cruises. The hotel also offers a private canal boat. Highly recommend and would definitely return.
