Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a legend along the city’s fabled canals. This magnificent grouping of 17th- and 18th-century palaces, set along the prestigious, UNESCO-protected Herengracht in the Golden Bend neighborhood, brings the legendary True Waldorf Service to the heart of Holland’s capital. Authentic contemporary decor and architectural touches define the 93 elegant rooms, lofts, and suites. The King Lofts, located on the highest floor, with the building’s original wooden beams, are particularly enticing. My wife and I visited Amsterdam just a day before the busy Kings day in April. We wanted to enjoy the city, walk around the lively neighborhoods which we know quite well, do shopping and eat well. In order to support that we decided to stay in Waldorf Astoria, this proved to be perfect choice. We arrived separate ways, I from another city in Holland and my wife from airport. We both had a great arrival, friendly staff greeted us and helped with the check-in. A fun detail is that you get to choose the room scent, which the staff will use when cleaning the room. As we were early in, we got our room later and off we went to the city. When returning with lots of shopping bags, the staff took them to our room and we went to the beautiful garden on the inner yard of the hotel for some drinks. Our room itself was excellent: fresh, functioning with spacious bath room and wonderfully soft bed. Everything worked in the room, we encountered zero issues. For once on our trips we did not use gym or spa, as we were so busy in the city. The drinks service for the garden and naturally breakfast were top notch. Breakfast is not a buffet, but rather table served based on the menu you select. Everything tasted good, and service was overly friendly and attentive. Great experience indeed. I would like to mention also positively the people at the door. Extremely helpful and talkative, with some great advice and always smiling. It felt like coming home when you enter in front of the hotel, and there they were welcoming you. Finally, we took the hotel transport to the airport with Luxurious e-Mercedes. Driver knew how to avoid the jam at the airport and we got in thru the side: fast and effortless.

For € 2,000 a night a suite should not just be large, but welcoming. Not a single frill of any quality in a bland and dated interior decoration reminiscent of an airport hotel. Not one feature of quality about the hotel interior except it was clean. Dull lunch on offer, ok breakfast, dungeon bar setting but all the staff really very nice. I suppose it is the corporate designer and the aging of it all that lets it down.

This is a beautiful hotel tucked away in the city’s historic center. We were in a King Junior Suite for three nights, and it immediately struck the right balance of comfort and atmosphere. The hotel colors are light and inviting, accented with a bright blue tea lounge right off the entry. The team was incredibly accommodating, and they checked us in early after our flight arrived in the morning, which turned our travel day into something easy and effortless. What makes the Waldorf special is its mix of history and location. The hotel is a collection of five historic connected townhomes and sits on the Gentleman’s canal, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Its location makes it convenient to step out and walk or bike to galleries, canals, and the city’s iconic neighborhoods. Amsterdam’s classic, canal-side legacy is all around it, and the hotel’s own heritage is part of what gives the stay that “old-meets-new” feeling.

Every part of my one night stay was excellent at this truly unique, individual hotel. Even check-in was different from any check-in I have had before, and then to be walked to my room by the host, once she had checked which fragrance I wanted in my room at turndown time was a new one for me. The King Grand Loft room was one of a kind, with so much space and character - really cosy and quiet at the top corner of the hotel. The pool and steam room area was really classy, the cocktail experience was out of this world and generally the service was unparalleled. Then topped off by a fabulous breakfast. The overnight oats was very special.
