Reviews for Hotel Captain Cook

Dated Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Hotel is extremely large. There are several restaurants. A few shops. Tour groups pick up from here. It was an easy walk to downtown Anchorage restaurants & attractions. They have a lot of cruise ship people staying here. The exterior area and lobbies are nice. My room however was overdue for updating. The lighting was awful. The bathroom was moldy & ill lit.

MASSIVE HOTEL FOR THOUSANDS OF GROUP TRAVELERS

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Captain Cook Hotel was built in the 1960's and expanded in the 1970"s. It has been well maintained but it is OLD and immense. Bathrooms have original tile. TV's are early flatscreens sitting on a counter (not wall mounted). What is really impressive, however, is how this hotel manages THOUSANDS - REALLY! of guests on tour - mainly Princess Cruise travelers which apparently is its key to survival. Lobby is like a swarm of insects - everywhere you turn there are people in large groups. They all come and go quite satisfactorily but this is not a place for a voluntary stay.

Nice historic hotel in downtown Anchorage

Comfortable and clean room with nice toiletries. We appreciated having a Kurig coffee maker in the room. Bed is comfortable and we were able to walk from the conference center (7 min). Our room had an overhead fan which is a nice touch. The hotel is within walking distance to restaurants in the area.

The hotel is centrally located (actually on Main Street). Several restaurants in hotel and we ate dinner at Crows Nest which was great. Views of the area are great and meal was delicious. Our room had a recently renovated bathroom and was very nice. Recommend it as a place to stay

Very loud elevator! Kept me awake all night!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The hotel is in a good location. Easy walk to restaurants and gift shops. There is even a nice neighborhood playground nearby. The staff was very courteous. However I am giving the hotel a 3 because of the elevator. When we left for dinner we were told the elevators are not working. We carried a 2 year old and a stroller down 15 flights of stairs. When we came back from dinner the elevators were working. Our 2 year old fell asleep. When we were getting ready for bed we heard what sounded like someone dragging a suitcase across the room. We thought they were taking luggage to rooms. We went to bed and realized we were next to the elevators. The noise continued throughout the night. It was too late to complain since our 2 year old was asleep. I wore earplugs but the noise was so loud it still kept me awake. When we complained the next day we were told we have to talk to Princess. Princess said they received other complaints about the elevator. If you do stay at the hotel, make sure you do not get a room by the elevator!
