Reviews for Hotel Captain Cook

Downtown Anchorage hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Spent one night to start our land tour of Alaska. We were booked through our Holland America cruise. We were blown away as this hotel far exceeded our expectations. We had a huge suite with a living room, huge bathroom and bedroom. Very comfortable bed, nice linens, very clean bathroom stocked with everything we needed. Location was perfect, the whole downtown area was easily walkable. Very quiet, would definitely stay here again.

The Captain Cook hotel is fun and quirky. We stayed there for two nights and the beginning of our Alaska trip and had a great experience. The hotel is huge and is hopping at all hours. Rooms were spacious and well maintained with views of the Inlet. Location is perfect with lots of shops and restaurants within a couple of blocks.

Good place to stay

We were here as part of a Holland America Cruise tour. Unfortunately, there were a few rooms that were not ready, and ours were one of them. We were traveling with my 90 year old parent and needless to say she was exhausted after a long day. Our room was not ready for another two hours. That was not cool, but I will say that it was clean when we finally got in. The room was comfortable and met our needs for the one night we were there. I really appreciated the blackout curtains. The bedding situation needs to be worked out. It consisted of a flat duvet covered by 2 sheets. Predictably it all fell apart over night. There are restaurants and shops in the hotel and we enjoyed walking through the shops and eating at Fletcher’s and the Pantry. The food at both places was great. We were tired so I ordered a salad to go from Fletchers for dinner, and they were wonderfully accommodating. We had breakfast at The Pantry, they had delicious food and they were so efficient. When we told them we were short on time, they got us in and out in record time. I highly recommend this restaurant in the hotel. The front desk staff were friendly and professional. There is a great walking trail that follows the coast that is very accessible from this hotel.

We cruised with Princess Cruise Lines our last night was at the Hotel Captain Cook. Our room was excellent in every way. The perfect end to our two weeks with Princess. One of the best rooms I have ever stayed at. The breakfast in the Pantry the next morning was also excellent. The service provided by this Hotel is second to none.

Hotel Captain Cook Came Up Just a Bit Short!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Rough start to an otherwise fantastic family trip! We got into Anchorage after a long flight and went to check into the Hotel Captain Cook. A few days before I called to confirm our reservation. All good. I had an email with the amount, type of room and a CONFIRMATION number. The hotel couldn't find the reservation. I went back and forth with the person checking us in. She was pleasant and tried to help. Another person remembered our phone conversation and confirmed I had the room. I was getting frustrated, but wasn't angry. While this was happening, another person called security. Instead of standing back and assessing the situation, the security person came right up to me and told me to calm down. Until then I was calm.....but now I was pissed!!! We ended up getting into a room, but was charged $400 more than what I was supposed to pay. At this point I just wanted to get into a room. That night we ate at the Crow's Nest which was fantastic. We left for Seward the next day and returned to the Hotel Captain Cook two days later. The check-in went smoothly. The person who helped us was great. All in all our stay was nice.
