Rough start to an otherwise fantastic family trip! We got into Anchorage after a long flight and went to check into the Hotel Captain Cook. A few days before I called to confirm our reservation. All good. I had an email with the amount, type of room and a CONFIRMATION number. The hotel couldn't find the reservation. I went back and forth with the person checking us in. She was pleasant and tried to help. Another person remembered our phone conversation and confirmed I had the room. I was getting frustrated, but wasn't angry. While this was happening, another person called security. Instead of standing back and assessing the situation, the security person came right up to me and told me to calm down. Until then I was calm.....but now I was pissed!!! We ended up getting into a room, but was charged $400 more than what I was supposed to pay. At this point I just wanted to get into a room. That night we ate at the Crow's Nest which was fantastic. We left for Seward the next day and returned to the Hotel Captain Cook two days later. The check-in went smoothly. The person who helped us was great. All in all our stay was nice.

We had a very unpleasant experience at captain cook and I would never return to the property. We were exhausted when we arrived and wanted nothing more than to go to bed. I crawled into bed and when I looked at the blanket situation, I had 2 sheets on either side of what I think at one time was a duvet. It was completely flat, no stuffing left, had holes in it and was filthy. We called down to the desk and they said they would send someone up. We had to call 2 more times before that actually happened. The excuse we got was that housekeeping is not there at night. They brought us a couple of blankets to replace the duvet (??) but I was grossed out. Overall the room was dated, shabby and the bathroom was not very clean. Wildbirch is a much better option than this place.

Nice hotel and popular with the tour companies, especially Holland America and Princess. Good restaurants too. Room was comfortable. Close to several restaurants and bars downtown.
